The ArD/FEA Reconstruction Unit operates under the umbrella of the AUB Reconstruction Task Force which was formed by President Waterbury on August 23, 2006. The Reconstruction Unit at ArD/FEA was formed to aid in the reconstruction efforts in Lebanon, in particular the physical reconstruction of AlDahiya and towns in the South. It was formed as a multi-disciplinary unit, including architects, urban designers, planners, civil and traffic engineers. It operates both at the level of conceptual planning and technical aid and the level of assessment and problem definition on the ground. Its assistance include (i) Technical consultancy to the municipalities in the ongoing process of reconstruction, which fits in the AUB’s goal of community service.; (ii) Academic outputs, in as far as the Unit provides teaching and research material to Design Studios in the Architecture and Design Department, as well as to courses that chose to incorporate war/post-war related themes.
