Needs in logistic education in North África area
Needs in logistic education As per Transglory’s experience • lack of modern facilities (offices, bonded warehouses): example of Casablanca. • lack of local transportation facilities: example of Algeria trucking service that we may explain abroad Oran-Algiers +/-400 km in 3 hours / Bejaia-Algiers +/-200 km in 5/6 hours. • telecommunication not adapted to our needs: example of Algeria. • lack of logistic platforms (example of Atlantic logistic in Casablanca with 29.000 m). • lack of qualified persons (managers or technicians) or training centers in Morocco and Tunisia (mainly theorical), in Algeria (almost none). • different political, financial, economical situation in each country: Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia are working much more with Europe than among themselves. • associations sometimes not really active, regulations sometimes missing: example of number of freight forwarders in each country.
Needs in logistic education As per Transglory’s experience, our needs are: As they are many needs, let’s focus on the purpose of this seminar: Logistic Education. • management level: - team leader / team developer. - proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. - good level of English in order to maintain conversation and make reporting. - persons who know as well the local legislation as our business (accounting, …). • operational level: - persons able to work under pressure as we are problems solvers (ex: call centers). - persons with experience and/or knowledge in bonded warehouse, consolidation, logistic, dangerous goods, air shipment, etc… • external level: - public (customs) and private (transport companies, logistics warehouses) are not always adapted to our needs (business is changing fast).
Needs in logistic education As per Transglory’s experience, in the meantime: We try to deal with Human Resources education by our own. Our policy is to hire only one expatriate (Country Manager) as we want local persons to deal with local customers. • internal trainings done by our Head Office team (incoterms, procedures, job description). • meetings organized locally to transmit the knowhow of our group. • teambuilding events to motivate our team and to adapt ourselves to each country. • depending on the size of our office, we try to make them teach to their new colleagues. • English classes at mid-day in the office. But we all have to recognize that our core business is to be logistic operators, not logistic education centers.
Needs in logistic education Proposal to improve Thanks to: • the initiative launched by the European Investment Bank • the involvement of all the technical partners, including the Mediterranean Partner Countries we are confident that LOGISMED project will be a reality.
It facilitates the exchanges between the MPCs and the EU, and it is profitable for all the parties involved (win-win relationship).
Thanks a lot for your time and attention !
