Welcome
TO SEQUIM LAVENDER WEEKEND!
Welcome to Sequim Lavender Weekend, the largest lavender celebration in the country! For the past 22 years, lavender lovers have been traveling to Sequim to soak in the beauty, fragrance and fun during this action-packed weekend. New this year, the popular Street Fair is located at Carrie Blake Park. We hope you enjoy the natural setting as you stroll through the artisan booths and enjoy the music and delicious food. One of the highlights of Lavender Weekend is
visiting local lavender farms. This year there are more farms open than ever before. Each farm is different and has its own unique character. Try to visit as many as your time allows and experience the array of activities offered at each farm. In addition to all of the lavender events, there are art shows, a quilt show, wine tastings, musical performances and more community events throughout the weekend.
An event of this caliber really does take a village to produce. I want to thank all of the organizations that are hosting activities and all of the volunteers who are providing the necessary support. Relax, breathe deep, and enjoy your visit to the Lavender Dennis Smith, Capital of North America and mayor of Sequim Lavender Weekend. City of Sequim

B&B FAMILY FARM
B&B Family Farm is excited to participate once again in the tradition of Sequim’s Lavender Weekend. Our farm is open May through September and is always free, including Sequim Lavender Weekend. You will find almost 10,000 plants of 16 different varieties on our farm and many folks also will get to see the lavender hanging to dry in our almost centuryold barn.
5883 Old Olympic Highway 360-504-2585 bbfamilyfarm.com
We have fantastic photo opportunities throughout our property with our barns, Olympic Mountain range backdrop and beautiful lavender fields. Our family, Bruce, Bonnie, Kristy and Zion, are excited to share our love of lavender by providing informational tours of our lavender drying and processing. Additionally, we have distilling demonstrations from our certified International Perfume Foundation distiller, Zion, plus lavender harvesting information and bud defoliating and cleaning demonstrations with our unique “jitter-bud” lavender cleaning machine. Our tours happen continuously throughout the day with no waiting. We have a beautiful gift shop full of handmade lavender soaps, lotions, award-winning essential oils and many other treats, all made here on our farm. U-cut lavender is available and easy to access. We will have lavender lemonade for sale and rock painting, hiding and finding activities for children. We are easy to access on Old Olympic Highway and have 12 sprawling acres with plenty of parking. B&B Family Farm is family- and pet-friendly and has a relaxed and low-key atmosphere. Join our family as we celebrate another season of lavender in Sequim. We look forward to meeting you!

We’ll have premium Castile lavender soaps, exquisite hand knits, lavender angels and amazing lapidary pieces. Blackberry Forest may be the best location for superior photos with views of the mountains, fields and beautiful Sequim Bay. Dogs and children with considerate parents always are welcome! Our amazing Grosso lavender plants at Blackberry Forest are excellent for U-pick. The stems are leafless and the bud holds on through the rigors of getting your cuts home and then letting them dry (standing in vases? spread on a counter?). My dried bouquets last so long, I dust them with a hair dryer! Yours will delight you for a very long time. We have lots of chairs and shade for visitors who would enjoy waiting outside of the car for their pickers and shoppers. Blackberry Forest is a comfortable, easypaced lavender farm — enjoyable for every member of your family. Come and spend the best part of your day with us!

JARDIN DU SOLEIL LAVENDER FARM
3932 Sequim-Dungneess Way • 360-582-1185 • jardindusoleil.com
Our family is excited to share our seventh festival with you. Come visit our “Garden of the Sun,” the only farm in Sequim surrounded by hundreds of acres of untouched Dungeness scenery. This year we are adding new crafts, new experiences, continuing favorite Jardin du Soleil traditions and continuing our popular free shuttle service from downtown out to the farm. While visiting Jardin du Soleil, some of the things we are proud to offer are the experience of getting lost (and found) in our garden maze, listening to the bees while cutting your own fresh bundle and watching your family smile while they enjoy our new and unique familyfriendly lavender crafts. Hang out and listen to great music on the lawn or browse vendors featuring some amazing handcrafted jewelry, art, clothing and even get an original henna design. Our gift shop is fully stocked with Jardin du Soleil signature products and so many new products you’ve just got to see. We also are super-excited to welcome back Pacific Pantry, who will be serving handmade lavender sausages and other local dishes. Make sure to get to Thor early if you want to try some of Viking Feasts’ chocolate ice cream. Of course, he’ll have lavender ice cream, too, featuring local Dungeness Creamery milk and Jardin du Soleil Royal Velvet lavender. Local beer, cider and wine also will be served. This year we again have teamed up with Olympic Lavender to bring you more than 15 acres of Dungeness Lavender Festivities — which means two great farms for one admission. By starting your day at the Jardin du Soleil Lavender Festival and taking advantage of our free shuttle service running to the Lavender Festival in downtown Sequim and Olympic Lavender every 20 minutes all weekend long, you can experience all that Sequim Lavender Weekend has to offer. We look forward to seeing you out on the farm!

LAVENDER CONNECTION
1141 Cays Road • 360-681-6055 • lavenderconnection.com
The Olson Family welcomes you to relax and spend a summer day with us! Our farm is open to the public Fridays-Mondays throughout the summer when lavender is in bloom (check lavenderconnection.com for up-to-date hours) and is always free to visit, even during Sequim Lavender Weekend. Our unique farm has 38 varieties of lavender to view — from light pink to dark purple — with most available for U-cut, making for exceptional photo opportunities and truly unique lavender bundles. Take advantage of photo opportunities of our multi-colored lavender fields and historic barn. Visit our quaint store, located in the historic barn; our boutique products are handmade with lavender essential oil distilled from our own plants. Head to the copper still and watch as we distill the oil and learn about the different uses and kinds of lavender we grow, then head to the “Essential Oil Bar” to smell many varieties of lavender essential oil, all available for sale. Or visit our “perfumery,” where you can sample a
variety of different essential oils and fragrances, then use our lavender essential oil as a base to invent a lavender scent that is uniquely your own. We offer lawn games such as bocce ball and cornhole, as well as benches and picnic tables throughout the property. We invite you to bring a picnic, a good book or just your camera, and stay all afternoon! Even your pets are welcome — as long as they are leashed. Finally, we encourage anyone with a military ID (including retired personnel) to visit and cut a free bouquet of lavender. See website for more details.

MELI’S LAVENDER
62 W. Diane Drive
Meli’s Lavender was originally established by Monica and Sergio Gonzalez to help their daughter and son pay for college. The couple planted about 1,000 lavender plants in the winter of 2015 and have been working to grow the farm since then. The farm has evolved into a family project and throughout the year, they work to make it a better experience for visitors. During Sequim Lavender Weekend, visitors can visit our farm for U-pick activities or visit us at our Carrie Blake Park booth to purchase lavender plants, fresh bundles, wreaths and natural lavender products.

NELSON’S DUCKPOND & LAVENDER FARM
More than 45 years ago, Harry and Gail Nelson purchased 40 acres of undeveloped land in Sequim with the dream of one day retiring there. Over the years they sold off parcels to put their five children through school, ending up with 5 acres of their own. In 1996, the Nelsons joined the Sequim Lavender Growers Association, and the family has been a member ever since. The youngest daughter, Amy Lundstrom, and her husband, Jeff, purchased the farm nine years ago. On the farm they have more than 2,200 lavender plants of several varieties, mainly Grosso, Provence, Super, Royal Velvet, Folgate and their newest variety, Pacific Blue, which may be available for U-pick depending on the weather. As always, there is no admission fee. The farm features a lovely gift shop called “The Garden Shed,” where you can pick up all your gardening and lavender needs from lotions and potions to its famous Lavender Lemon Poundcake, Garlic Lavender Pepper and even Lavender Mocha Fudge. Be sure to stop by Tilly’s Lemonade Stand, operated by their daughter, and purchase a glass of ice cold Lavender Lemonade. Jeff also will be sampling up many delights highlighting all the farm’s spices. If you just want to sit 22 • Sequim Lavender Weekend 2018

ACTIVITIES AND POINTS OF INTEREST
• “Name that plant!”: Adding on to last year’s popular event, thousands of baby lavender plants were put in the ground featuring unique varieties that replaced the original lavender fields that were planted and they each need a name! The first 500 people each day who start their day at Olympic Lavender Company and get a ticket/wristband will get a special little tag and get to name one baby lavender plant in the fields, and it will forever be a part of the farm! • Huge ridiculous purple chairs: Three 10-foot-tall giant purple Adirondack chairs adorn the heritage farm for all kinds of family and fun photos, so don’t miss out. • Farm demonstrations: Olympic Lavender Company owners and guests featuring lavender bud stripping and cleaning demonstrations, essential oil distillation demonstrations, plant talks and more. • Craft with us: “The Sequim Lavender Lady,” June Devine, with lavender craft workshops. • Kids time, big time: The Morning Star Balloon Co. with Captain Crystal and her crew run a really big hot air balloon fun house for kids and those who identify as kids. • Raffle to win lavender products: Start your day at Olympic Lavender Company and buy a ticket/wristband, fill out a raffle ticket, and you will be entered into a raffle to win one of many Olympic Lavender Company products and gift baskets! Winners will be announced every two hours all weekend long at the farm festival. • Arts and crafts vendors galore: We feature the largest number of arts and crafts vendors on a farm from all over Washington and Oregon.
MUSIC
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Olympic Lavender Company invites you to their music stage and big tent to enjoy some of the best bands and groups on the Olympic Peninsula. Grab some food, ice cream, a drink, or just hang out with your family and friends. Since purchasing Peninsula Nursery in 2017, new owner George Peterson has been busy turning the once-neglected nursery in to an inspirational destination for area residents. One of the decisions Peterson made was to open a landscaping division. The lavender side of the business received a makeover, too. Fields featuring multiple lavender varieties have been installed behind the 1880 farmhouse. Stop by during Sequim Lavender Weekend for live music and plenty of lavender plant options. Future plans for the property include a microbrewery, vacation rentals, additional lavender fields and expansion of propagation, a beer garden, extensive remodeling, landscaping and more.

PURPLE HAZE LAVENDER FARM
Time for the best lavender party in town! It’s Purple Haze Daze July 20-22! A weekend of food, music, lavender and love! This three-day family-friendly lavender event will include the music of some iconic musical figures. On Friday night, we are so fortunate to have the famous Beatles tribute band, Creme Tangerine, closing out the day’s events with a dinner available for purchase and dance bash starting at around 5 p.m. Our resident hero, Geoffrey Castle, once again will be wielding his world-famous electronic violin along with his band Saturday, then will return Sunday and solo to fascinate his fans. Aussie Blake Noble will delight the crowds on Saturday and Sunday with his 12-string guitar and didgeridoo along with local favorite Black Diamond Junction, vocalist Bradford Loomis and the W Lovers, an alternative country Americana band who will round out our live music lineup. It all shakes out to being a wonderfully entertaining musical weekend as always at Purple Haze. Blondie’s Plate, a must-visit on the Sequim food scene, will provide gourmet food and an array of beverages, including its specialty, the Moscow Mule, and the always popular Lavender Margarita. Blondie’s steak sandwich is to die for, and their fresh oysters are amazing! Those looking for unique handcrafted items will enjoy the 20-plus artisan vendors displaying their wares throughout the farm. Photo opportunities abound everywhere on Purple Haze’s 12 acres of flowing lavender fields. A stop in the orchard will provide you with an opportunity to meet Bob and Shirley, our peacock pair, and our eclectic collection of egg laying hens. Should you wish to take home some lavender goodies, our farm’s gift shop is stocked full of Purple Haze’s own line of culinary delights, including our gold medal awardwinning herb mustard, bath and body products and lavender home-care items. The farm also has its own ice cream shoppe with a variety of delicious lavender ice creams, tea, coffee, lavender lemonade and lavender Italian sodas! Those looking for a more permanent souvenir will have more than a dozen varieties of lavender plants to choose from to take home and plant in their own garden. Sequim Gazette & Peninsula Daily News
And we are always pet friendly. If you prefer not to drive, we are providing a free shuttle from the Festival Street Fair at Carrie Blake Park on Blake Avenue. This way you can park once and visit the street fair, downtown Sequim and the farm all without the stress of driving! For more information, visit purplehazedaze.com or purplehazelavender.com.

Sequim Lavender Festival
STREET FAIR Friday, July 20, through Sunday, July 22 Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Carrie Blake Community Park 202 N. Blake Ave. FREE ADMISSION
The Sequim Lavender Festival celebrates its 22nd year in the heart of Sequim during the weekend of July 20-22. Solely produced and managed by the member-growers of the Sequim Lavender Growers Association, the Sequim Lavender Festival will include activities and attractions to delight visitors of all ages. The Sequim Lavender Street Fair is in Carrie Blake Community Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., this year. This beautiful venue will host more than 150 crafts and lavender booths, a diverse food court, live music and more. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, and Saturday, July 21, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 22. Admission to the event is free, and free parking is available at the entrance to Blake Avenue. Watch for signs coming off U.S. Highway 101 and directions to general parking and ADA parking. Sequim Lavender Growers Association members will offer original and hand-created gifts and personal care items produced from their Sequim lavender harvest at their vendor booths. The imagination is limitless when it involves the ancient and modern uses of lavender — from hydrating oils, lotions and soaps, relaxing eye pillows, culinary ingredients and pet apparel to the beautifully prepared lavender bouquets and loose lavender buds.
Toe-tapping tunes at the Lavenderstock Stage will entertain throughout the three-day Sequim Lavender Festival.
Sequim Lavender Festival volunteers welcome visitors to the Merchandise Tent in 2017. T-shirts, posters and other goods will be for sale.
And, of course, unique and hard-to-locate lavender plants will be available at the Sequim Lavender Street Fair and the farms. This lavender-themed event consists of a high-end juried street fair made up of all types of artisans with a wide variety of techniques and products. We also have invited a number of local nonprofit groups to participate with a free booth. LavenderStock will take place at the James Center for the Performing Arts main stage and will feature opening ceremonies Friday and live music and entertainment all three days. Bring your dancing shoes Saturday night when we will host a “street” dance at the center from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring Black Diamond Junction. The Sequim Lavender Festival Food Court should not be missed. A wonderful array of food is available to visiting foodies. Don’t miss the BBQ, fish and chips, six flavors of lavender ice cream, street tacos, Greek and Thai food, coffee, doughnuts, kettle corn, elephant ears and more. There are several returning favorites and a couple of new things to try. The Sequim Lavender Festival in the park is pet friendly. Pets must be on leash and picked up after.
There is an enclosed dog park in Carrie Blake Park, and we’ll have a doggy rest area in the shade. Several vendors cater to pets. Some of our farms also are pet friendly. For pet friendly farms, visit visitsunnysequim.com. FREE self-guided farm tours will be held from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during all three days of the festival. Eight farms and one commercial nursery are open to the public for tours. Farms include: Blackberry Forest, Fat Cat Garden and Gifts, Graysmarsh Berry & Lavender Farm, Nelson’s Duck Pond & Lavender Farm, Kitty B’s Lavender Farm, Meli’s Lavender, Earth Muffin Lavender, Troll Haven and Peninsula Nursery. Pick up a Sequim Lavender Festival map at any farm or the park for locations of these farms. Drive at your own leisure and pack a lunch to enjoy a full day of relaxation and lavender. New this year, a “celebrity” photo booth and a lavender scavenger hunt!

MEET THE ARTIST Self-taught artist Julie Peterson resides in East Wenatchee. Peterson can remember her love for art as early as seven years of age, sitting and drawing horses for hours. Her career as a full-time artist began in 1996. She has been in many art shows in the West. Peterson loves painting scenes from all over Washington. She feels the state offers everything an artist could ask for. As a Washington artist, she has been collecting photo research for many years and now wants to begin to plein air paint. She plans on exploring more of Washington. Peterson paints more than 20 new pieces of art each year and continues to show her work in the summer months and finds new venues during the winter. Her medium is in oils on canvas, linen and hardboard. Peterson paints landscapes and wildlife. Peterson’s style is defined as traditional realism. Each piece of work has many hours of devoting layers of paint which gives each piece its rich, brilliant color. Her reproductions are giclee fine art prints on canvas or paper; high-quality materials are used with archival canvas, inks, paper and varnish. The challenge and new endeavors are what keeps Peterson’s spirits high. The ability to be creative and share what she loves with others is a great gift and honor and makes her very happy. — Information and photographs provided by Sequim Lavender Festival

QUILT RAFFLE
The Sequim Lavender Festival is once again pleased to partner with the Sunbonnet Sue Club of Sequim for the 2018 festival. Each year the club has donated a quilt to the Sequim Lavender Festival. “We proudly hang this quilt on our main stage each year, and then it will be raffled off the next year,” festival organizers said. “All proceeds of the raffle sales go into a scholarship fund for a local student.” Purchase a raffle ticket at the festival’s merchandise booth to win the beautiful Sunbonnet Sue quilt donated last year, which was displayed at the main stage. Raffle tickets cost $1 each. This year, the Sequim Lavender Festival is pleased to give away two scholarships. Rene Flores was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. “Sequim Lavender Growers Association is very proud

Sequim Lavender Festival
2018 LAVENDER AMBASSADORS This year the Sequim Lavender Festival welcomes Melissa Murray, who has taken on the task of rounding up “Lavender Ambassadors” with enthusiasm. Also by her side working effortlessly is Kathy Powell. Thanks to both of them! Lavender Ambassadors are always happy to let visitors know about the area, reflecting the charm and goodwill of Sequim and the surrounding valley. Many Lavender Ambassadors are family members
from each of the farms on tour, as well as from the Sequim Lavender Growers Association’s general membership. “They are too numerous to list, but each one is a valuable members of our event,” Sequim Lavender Festival organizers said. “Thanks to the family members who come from near and afar always with a smile on their faces for this great event. A huge thanks from the Sequim Lavender Grow-
ers Association during the Sequim Lavender Festival Weekend. We could not do this event year after year without you.” The Sequim Lavender Growers Association is a nonprofit organization and takes pride in working with so many nonprofits in the area. Thanks to the following local nonprofits that help make the Sequim Lavender Festival so special: • Boy Scouts Troop #90 • Boys and Girls Club of Sequim • Sequim Picklers • Sequim Lions Club • Sequim Botantical Garden • KSQM • Girl Scout Troop #43578
