PUTTING TESTOSTERONE TO THE TEST Older men affected by frailty find it difficult to carry out many everyday activities, leading some to consider testosterone treatment. While the hormone is not approved for the treatment of frailty, there are a few studies that suggest that short-term treatment increases muscle mass, strength, and quality of life in older men. However, other studies indicate treating middle-aged and older men with testosterone might increase their risk of heart disease and prostate problems. More recent research makes another argument for short-term treatment, if any at all. The new study found that the benefits gained from over six months of hormone therapy (including increased muscle mass, leg strength, and improved sexual function) disappeared another six months later. P.S. For senior men and women alike, exercise and good nutrition help stave off the effects of frailty. We are pleased to bring you interesting and informative topics regarding seniors. SMART CHOICES
What is longterm care and why should I care? I am a boomer, as are a lot of you reading this right now. Knock on wood, I am in good health, but a couple of years ago I bought an insurance policy that will take all of the pressure off if that happy state changes. That insurance is long-term care. At least 70 percent of people over age 65 will require some long-term care services at some point in their lives. And, contrary to what many people believe, Medicare and private health insurance programs do not pay for the majority of long-term care services. I wanted the coverage so that our one child would not have to shoulder the responsibilities of care if my husband or I quickly need it.
At Health Within, our mission is to provide the personal care services necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Regardless of the treatment you choose, you will leave Health Within feeling more connected to yourself and the world around you. SPECIAL EVENT
