Brno’s Churches Are Opening up Again
In mid-June, the doors of Brno‘s churches and the basilica will open once again to the general public who will be able to visit and explore them as well as learn a thing or two about their architecture, history and significance. Thanks to the 15th annual event - the Brno and Its Churches project, you will also see places not normally accessible. Moreover, there is an additional programme awaiting you.

The churches to open in the city centre include the Red Church, the Churches of St. Thomas and St. Michael, the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which this year is celebrating 700 years since its foundation, and newly the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, which was consecrated 350 years ago and offers visitors an exclusive opportunity to view the structural support of its interior. Outside the city centre, head for the Churches of Beatified Maria Restituta and, newly of
St. Lawrence, celebrating its 700th anniversary this year. In addition to the much-welcome feeling of serenity in the course of everyday life and the beautiful architecture, the churches offer an additional programme during the summer, focusing on the theme of courageous women associated with Brno‘s churches and sacred places. You can follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth Richeza, women’s religious orders, patronesses of the Capuchin Order and explore depictions of women saints in the centre of Brno.
Starting on June 15, the project will open with a reading from the book titled Sisters by the author Kamila Hladká with the violin accompaniment performed by Jitka Břízová. Worksheets called Get to Know Churches in Brno have been prepared for children while collector’s cards will please young and old alike.
