Inspiration
worth 1,000 words. Imagine what several photos could say all together. They could virtually bring to life the past. And they could inspire the future. That’s what we’re aiming to do with the winners from this edition’s wedding photo contest. You see, we’ve hosted photo contests in the bridal editions of Points North Atlanta in the past, but we discovered a disadvantage to examining photos in isolation. For every single, cover-worthy wedding photo we receive, there are countless additional photos that tell the full story of the day a couple said “I Do.” We want to tell those stories in The Northside Bride. So we selected 10 finalists
that met our cover criteria and asked each bride to send additional photos and details to help us make our decision. How did she meet the man of her dreams? What was her vision for her ceremony and reception? What was her favorite memory? Our winners (Photo Contest, page 19) include a few staff favorites and a few reader favorites, thanks to feedback we received through Facebook. We think their stories will touch you, and their photos will give you plenty of ideas to incorporate into your own special day.

SIGNATURE SCENTS
WRITTEN BY NIKI KNIPPENBERG

NOTES
WITH CAREFULLY SELECTED COLOR palettes, string quartets, silk table cloths and signature cocktails, weddings are delightfully sensory and thoughtfully crafted to represent the bride and groom. But too often in our nuptial preparations we forget that all-important fifth sense — smell. Incorporating a signature fragrance into your wedding can be done with as much extravagance or subtlety as you like, but before you debate Single Florals versus Ambers, you have a choice to make. Do you select an existing fragrance — a perfume to honor a relative, or the flowers your fiancé sent after your first date — or do you try something entirely new? If a scent doesn’t immediately come to mind, we suggest you create one that’s all your own. Juls Get Lit, the Suwanee candle shop, is the perfect place to start. Owner Juls Green can help turn any idea — even one as vague as the color orchid and the smell of midnight — into a beautiful and delicious-smelling candle that complements your theme and color palette. If you’re worried about overpowering your guests and clashing with your flowers, leave those fears at the door. She’ll work with your florist to create an atmosphere suited precisely to your taste. facebook.com/julscandles Let Blend Custom Parfum Studio, home to Galimard France trained master perfumers, host your bridal party. Nibble on chocolate and sip Champagne while you and your gals create a perfume from the highest quality notes. They’ll

even create save the date cards, labels and packaging to match your theme and colors. The coolest part? Blend’s perfumers can match any scent, so your candles and perfume will be a flawless match! blendcustomeperfume.com Pst! Bridesmaids! Juls also hosts parties with artists who can help you create a one-of-a-kind gift for the bride, and Blend offers papering packages made with her custom fragrance. When the big day finally arrives, relax and take time to smell your custom-blended roses. Make sure your photographer captures a photo of you dabbing your scent behind your ear, and surprise the groom before the ceremony by sending him a note and the bottle of cologne you made especially for him. After the toasts are raised and the rice is tossed, send your guests and bridal party home with sweet, scented memories. Fans spritzed with your fragrance and DIY solid-scent perfumes both make charming (and useful!) favors. But if you’re not the crafty type, both Juls Get Lit and Blend offer fantastic packages for wedding mementos. We’ve all experienced the powerful and vivid memories the smell of rain or fresh linens can evoke. And years from now, when you come home to the scent of the same candles that burned as you said your vows, or when your husband smells the perfume you wore the first time he kissed his bride, you’ll both be swept back into the romance of the day you said “I do.”
THE SCENT G O U R M A ND : These rich, dessert-like scents, such as vanilla and hazelnut, will warm up stately venues with fireplaces and stone decor. WO O DY: Sandalwood and pine are ideal for mountaintop ceremonies. The earthy scents are grounding and calming. F LO R A LS: Spring weddings are uplifting and romantic, and gardenias and honeysuckle will fill you and your future with light and hope. C I T R U S: For fresh, garden weddings, cilantro, melon and lime will add a sassy flair to your outdoor affair. O C EA NI C : Clean and invigorating, sea salts, cucumber and fig are musts for nautical themed or seaside ceremonies. SP I C ES: If you’re tying the knot in winter while the air is still chilly and the holidays are still fresh in your mind, clove and cinnamon will make your day warm and homey.
SIMPLY SCENTSATIONAL So you’re the all-or-nothing type? Imagine this: A progression of environmentally friendly notes orchestrated to accentuate each step in your wedding — the gentle scent of gardenias rises as you take your first step down the aisle, cocktail hour is announced by peppy cucumber, something rich and romantic fills the room during your first dance, and finally the cake is cut and buttercream icing wafts throughout your reception hall. If this sounds like a dimension of detail you can’t pass up, custom fragrance company Scentevents rents discreetly sized scent machines that will carry your guests on the wings of subtle, almost subliminal, aromas from wedding march to grand send-off. scentevents.com PHOTOS COURTESY OF DEVON MORGAN | PHOTOSYNTHESIS STUDIO

DETAILS EVENT STUDIO TAKES THE STRESS OUT OF WEDDING PLANNING IT HAPPENS ALL TOO OFTEN — the stress of planning what should be a joyous occasion turns otherwise easy-going gals into bridezillas. The endless options offered by the wedding industry become overwhelming, the anxiety over every little detail all-consuming. Before you know it, every spare minute is spent interviewing vendors — florists, bakers, photographers, designers, all requiring appointments all across town, and you’re wishing you had just eloped. What if you could knock it all out in one fell swoop? That, my dear girl, is the purpose of Details Event Studio. The first of its kind in the Northside, Details offers an alternative to the madness of wedding planning by
connecting couples and party hosts with a select group of highly rated event professionals, including the specialized services of co-owners Irene Tyndale, who specializes in full-service planning and day-of coordination, and Donna Lipscomb, who creates customized invites and stationery for weddings and events. “Details Event Studio will connect you with vendors who will design your vision, so you can sit back and celebrate your special day,” Tyndale said. The process is simple, and starts before you ever set foot inside Details’ new studio in historic Roswell. Before each appointment, brides and party hostesses fill out a questionnaire that assists
Details in gathering information from vendors that fit their needs and budgets. Once you arrive, relax with a complimentary beverage (Champagne, anyone?) while your personal event concierge walks you through options that are tailored to your preferences. The best part? Those consultations are absolutely free, so you can devote more money to the fabulous affair of your dreams … because you never really wanted to elope in the first place. Details also offers a monthly open house, P4 Workshops (focusing on paper, photography, petals & planning), and special nights for grooms, mothers of the bride and mothers of the groom. 678-7449150, detailseventgroup.com

FUNNY FACES When we think of weddings, we think of flawless, ethereal brides, elegant décor and pastel color palettes, but, if we’re being honest, delivering all that perfection can be a bit stressful. We at The Northside Bride believe that the best antidote to pre-nuptial stress is remembering all of the delightful imperfections that first made you fall in love. Acworth-based Creative Caricatures specializes in helping you do just that by connecting brides with a network of caricature artists capable of drawing out that cureall laughter, so while you and the bridal party are posing for perfectly polished photos during cocktail hour, your guests will be capturing the moment as well. The live entertainment of a local artist can’t be rivaled by a photo booth, and your guests will love this relaxed activity and personalized keepsake. The company can also provide poster-sized caricatures of you and your cutie for a unique guestbook alternative. creativecaricatures.com Woodstock-based caricature artist Mario Luque provides similar services with an added bonus: He and his wife, Renata, are also wedding photographers, so you can capture all those special wedding moments with this one talented duo. 404-643-7224

SIGNATURE POPTAILS Signature cocktails have become a staple of the modern wedding — a drink meant to somehow encapsulate the essence of the bride and groom’s relationship. But let’s face it: Your marriage’s level of awesome might not fit in a martini glass. If that’s the case for you and your intended, then we suggest this cool option instead: Put your cocktail on a stick. King of Pops, the Atlanta-based ice pop company, can transform your signature drink into a refreshing frozen treat, perfect for a lively outdoor cocktail hour. KOP also offers an endless selection of all-natural pops in summery flavors like Blackberry Ginger Lemonade, Arnold Palmer and Grapefruit Mint. Can’t find the perfect flavor? Make it up! You can also add a custom-designed sticker to your pops’ wrappers and a personalized message to the pop stick. If you book the Full Experience catering service, KOP will send a pop server armed with your pops, their quaint cart, colorful umbrella, and a chalkboard menu to your venue. So leave the flutes on the table and raise a pop to the adventure of your new life. atlanta.kingofpops.net/catering
There’s no doubt that the bride is the belle of her wedding ball, but amidst the fine china and pink peonies, who says there can’t be something special for her other half? Cigars have long been a symbol of status and celebration. They’re also, when paired with a few bottles of single malt Scotch, the perfect masculine complement to your cocktail hour’s Champagne and cupcakes. Cutter’s Cigars, located in Alpharetta, will send a cigar roller or tobacconist to craft, cut and fire freshly made cigars, right in front of your guests. Among Cutter’s selection are the Arturo Fuente, Padron, and Montecristo lines; and the Romeo y Julieta, with its nod to the quintessential Shakespearian love story, is a wedding favorite. They also offer custom cigar bands, cutters and other mementos for your guests, and their personalized humidors make an excellent wedding gift for your special cigar enthusiast. Adding a cigar bar to your cocktail hour is not just a novel celebration of your union. It’s a sweet — or should we say, woody and earthy? — way to show your husband that your big day is about him, too. Send your inquiry to Tom Kakadelis at weddings@cutterscigars.com. cutterscigars.com

As
you explore the busy Windward corridor, it would be easy to miss The Metropolitan Club nestled discreetly in the trees between North Point Parkway and Edison Drive. Well-known for truly excellent food and service, for 10 years the Met has quietly raised the bar of ultra-custom events to a standard rarely seen elsewhere. In describing special use environments, owner Lee Chadwick suggests “the best design in special events facilities (a term she coined in 1985) is at once inviting and stimulating — an engaging combination of understated luxury, and carefully imposed details of interest – which allows a spacious room to feel intimate.” What inspires her? “Wildly happy clients!” she said. “This is intense and difficult work — when every event is managed based on different criteria, the opportunity for error is literally endless. The end result however, is worth it. True collaborative effort reveals alternatives that are reflective of our client’s clean intentions; subtle

Perfection is in the eye of the beholder, so with guidance every group redefines the space in a way uniquely suited to their own use; emphatically prioritizing comfort, beauty or utility.” “We ask our clients simple questions,” she continued. “‘Are you feeding these guests to keep them alive? Or to reward and inspire them?” The well-loved neutral interior has what long-term staff refer to as “a socially provocative energy.” Translation: Guests naturally want to flow exactly where they would be directed, if that were necessary. Now, that still-fresh palette will experience complete transformation. “Sleek and uncluttered but spirited and warmly residential.” Opening the allnew front patio will also provide never experienced possibilities. Tile from WalkerZanger, Edelman Leathers, Brazilian Quartzite, Baker and Henredon furnishings and Canovas and Robert Allen fabric combined with boldly scaled furnishings are sure to create a stir at this long distinguished address. “This fresh new environment will help us capture the spirit of the moment – investing the time to craft an experience wisely can transform an event from another obligation to a vivid and treasured memory.” F O R M O R E I N F O R M AT I O N The Metropolitan Club 5895 Windward Pkwy., Alpharetta 678-527-2000 themetropolitanclub.net

Consider adding a personal touch to his wedding band by engraving your fingerprint inside. Brent&Jess (brentjess.com) specializes in fingerprinting handcrafted gold and silver rings, and fingerprint engraving for tungsten bands is available through Titanium Kay (titaniumkay.com).
INSURE YOUR JEWELS! “An engagement ring is a significant financial purchase for a couple, so protecting that investment is always a smart idea,” said Monica Connor, licensed agent with Keith & Suzanne Rabitsch State Farm in Suwanee. Since most homeowners policies offer only limited jewelry coverage, Connor recommends a State Farm personal articles policy, which provides broader coverage when a ring is lost, damaged or stolen. It also provides coverage anywhere in the world, giving you peace of mind on your honeymoon.

Lauren Mielcarz and Doug Ford are living proof that you never know where love might fi nd you. The couple met by chance while shopping at Publix, and instantly hit it off. “Some people get their wedding cake at Publix, I got the groom!” Lauren joked. The Devore House in Alpharetta was the perfect venue for Lauren’s classic, country wedding. “The tables featured large mason jar centerpieces filled with floating lemons and white stock flowers surrounded by glowing votive candles, distressed wood table numbers and gold Chiavari chairs,” she said. “The bar was flanked with large arrangements stuffed with branches, white hydrangeas, lemons and limes.” And they used a Publix shopping cart to stash the gifts. Our featured photo was one of the fi rst shots the couple took alone after the ceremony. “Everything felt surreal and right after the picture was taken, my husband made me laugh really hard,” Lauren recalled. She loves this photo for its light, color and composition — and we couldn’t agree more.

JE S SI CA & TO NY JULY 6, 2013 Fate: the development of events outside a person’s control; to be destined to happen, or turn out.
This is the dictionary’s definition of fate, but if there were an illustration, it would be a photo of Jessica Karwowski and Tony Litton. The couple met under unfortunate circumstances; Jessica served as a registered nurse on the oncology floor where Tony’s father was receiving treatment. But nurse and patient shared a special connection, one that strengthened when she met Doug Litton’s son. “I later learned that I had been Doug’s favorite nurse, a fact that warms my heart every time I think about it. In a way, Tony’s dad gave us his blessing before we even knew we would need it.” Doug Litton passed away in January 2010, but the bond between his son and favorite nurse could not be broken. The two chose Château Élan for their summer wedding, which incorporated nautical touches like navy and white striped ribbon, lighthouses, sailboats and pops of baby blue. Our summer cover photo was taken in the vineyard right after the rain stopped for the first time that week. “The sun came out, and everything shined,” Jessica recalled. “We placed our heads together and thanked God for the beautiful day and for each other.” Ceremony and reception at Château Élan Winery & Resort; wedding dress from Affordable Bridal, Buford; suit from Banana Republic; hair by Jennifer C. The Tate House, just north of Ball Ground, served as the perfect setting for the Pamilla “P.J.” Smith and Josh Borne’s Victorian yet rustic chic wedding. “It has to be the grandest, most enchanting place I’ve seen … the interior and gardens are breathtaking, and its grace is timeless,” P.J. said. To carry out her vision, she incorporated antiques, aged wood, mason jars and lanterns to create an Old World atmosphere. Shades of cinnamon, apple, chocolate, merlot and eggplant gave the day a vibrant color scheme. “Marrying Josh, a freestyle motorcycle athlete, our life is very unique. I wanted [our wedding] to match our colorful lifestyle.” As a gift, each guest

received an authentic antique keepsake key and burlap bags filled with wildflower seeds. “My great-grandfather owned a saloon almost identical to the Tate House bar,” P.J. continued. “We wanted to embrace our family history, so we placed a picture of the saloon on the bar, and our photographer recreated [it.] The Tate house has a special way of entwining the beauty of the past with the promise of new beginnings.” Our featured photo was a candid moment captured on film. “It had been a long journey leading up to this day, and the love we felt in that moment will be etched in time forever.”

Nickie Rogers and Justin Clutter share a special bond — both police officers in the metro Atlanta area, they understand and support each other in their pursuit of law enforcement and wanted to pay tribute to that connection on their special day. “Though Justin and I work for different departments, we have the same badge number,” Nickie said. “During the ceremony, our chaplain blessed our badges, creating a sense of protection beyond that of the bullet proof vests that we wear.” The couple created an enchanting affair at Windermere Golf Club in Cumming with a sophisticated color scheme of dove grey and Tiffany blue. Our featured photo was captured when the rain on their wedding day finally ceased, allowing them a long-awaited photo opportunity outside. “[It was] the most beautiful sunset I had ever laid my eyes on,” Nickie said. “Sharing that moment together as one will forever be a sign from God blessing us on such an unforgettable day.”

RUNNER UP Mollie Clark and Alex Damon wanted an outdoor ceremony set against a rustic house; not only did Carl House in Auburn, Ga., fit this description, but their in-house vendors and wedding directors made planning easy so Mollie could truly enjoy her special day. The ceremony and reception were intentionally casual and fun. “We had a photo booth that was very popular, and the décor was a mix of vintage, rustic and chic materials,” Mollie said. “We made our own centerpieces with slabs of wood and mason jars with candles and flowers.”

Carrying on the casual theme, the groomsmen wore navy blue Converse sneakers to match Mollie’s navy blue, yellow and orange color scheme, and the bride herself wore royal blue heels. Our finalist photo was captured during the couple’s “first look” session. “Alex was behind those doors and I faced away from them and closed my eyes. A quintessential Southern belle, Cumming bride Caroline Driggers Van Bavel loves literature and considers pink her “signature color,” so her friends drew inspiration from classic Southern fiction like “Steel Magnolias” and “Fried Green Tomatoes” for her bridal shower. Invitations asked guests to wear their favorite shades of blush and bashful, and the party menu featured Southern specialties with names like Ouisa’s Garden Tomato Skewers, Scarlett’s Kiss Cupcakes, and Whistle Stop Café Pie of the Day. Instead of the standard shower games, guests were quizzed on their knowledge of classic Southern quotes, and décor included an antique typewriter, Southern novels, and plenty of pink. The shower took place at a private residence in South Forsyth with furniture and décor from CRUSH event rentals (crush-event-rentals.com), florals by Bloomin Bouquets (bloominbouquets.com), cupcakes by Jilly’s Cupcakery ( jillyscupcakery.com) and party accoutrements by Shannah J. Smith (shannahjsmith.etsy.com).

Whether it’s toning up for that classic strapless gown, or slinking into a dramatic dress that requires a sexy back, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Luckily, you can get sleek and in shape before your big day without shelling out money for a personal trainer or a monotonous gym membership, which means putting more money back into the wedding budget. If there was ever an excuse to get fit, stay fit and feel good about yourself, why not at the beginning of the next chapter of your life? We scooped up bride-to-be Mindy Greenstone (a Buford resident and fourth grade teacher) and scoped out the Northside for the best (and the most fun) ways to workout. What we found were options for everyone. Whether it’s minimal sweating or hardcore cardio, relaxing de-stressors or amped-up routines, our community has the answer to worn-out workouts with a wedding dress in their future.

PURE BARRE Johns Creek The perfect workout for brides-to-be, this routine is carefully crafted to tone up all of your trouble zones. “We focus on all of the areas women struggle with the most while also providing a total body workout,” said owner Sarah Moates. Here’s the formula: Lift the seat, tone the core, and burn calories all in 55 minutes. The workout incorporates isometric exercises and stretching to create long, lean muscles in a class that is fast-paced and set to fun music, keeping heart rates up and time flying by. If you were wondering if you have time to squeeze this routine in before you try to squeeze into the dress, you do. “Clients see results in as few as 10 classes!” Moates said. The icing on the cake? Pure Barre Johns Creek currently offers a “Bride-to-Be” package. At a

discount of almost 50 percent (unheard of in the fitness world), the package includes three months of unlimited classes for just $375. The perfect pairing for this class: Though clients are encouraged to dress comfortably, there are a few wardrobe requirements at the Johns Creek studio. Invest in a pair of gripper socks, like the ones our model sports from Gaiam, available online at gaiam.com or at Target or Academy Sports. This rubberbottomed, toe-friendly version is perfect for helping you stick your stretches and hold those poses. The team at Pure Barre also requires bottoms that extend past your knee, so we found these absolutely adorable leggings from Old Navy’s Active department. They’re comfortable, moveable and adorned with a scrunched side at the bottom, making them perfectly cute and practical. Greenstone paired it with new kicks (also from Old Navy), an ideal choice for when you aren’t hitting the pavement for pace challenges and want a comfy and supportive option to step your way to another workout.
MF YOGA Alpharetta Yoga, by practice, offers brides (and their grooms) opportunities to dissolve their stress into a physical practice that is as much for the mind as it is for the body. A step farther, hot yoga is a great way to intensify the level of detoxification and purification achieved with the traditional practice. “Many people who enjoy [hot yoga]

say the warmth helps get them to a deeper expression of each pose,” said Sonya Kuropatwa, an instructor at MF Yoga. “Yoga helps to open up the body, refine and tone muscles, and build skills for facing a challenge, both on and off the mat.” Added to that, yoga classes help build strength and increase flexibility, so for the brides, adding on that detox detail makes this pretty much the perfect workout. Kuropatwa recommends scheduling class at least three times a week, and making sure to stay hydrated. “What we’re all looking for is a well-balanced body — harmony of strength and flexibility benefits the structure as well as the many processes within the body,” she said.
Moving Comfort Fionna sports bra
A must-have heat survival tool: While a towel and a mat may cut it when you’re popping in a living room DVD, the best way to survive the sauna studio is a yoga towel with traction on the underside. Order yours from gaiam.com, or shop locally at Target, Academy Sports and other sporting goods stores — easy to clean and reuse for the best no-slide results. Kuropatwa encourages anyone participating in the class to come in something ultra comfortable — like wide leg yoga pants. They’ll keep your skin breathing, but keep you from getting cold (which means you burn more calories!).

THE NORTHSIDE BRIDE | Spring/Summer 2014
There are two types of people in this world — the runners and the non-runners. But if you’re the kind of person who wants to get a rockin’ body, there’s no better routine than a solid run through your neighborhood. Especially when you add interval training and competitive friends, the calorie-burning potential goes through the roof. And while we don’t recommend pigging out on pizza afterward, it sure does make you feel less guilty when you do. “Running is great for brides-to-be, both physically and mentally,” said Matt Auers, general manager of
the Alpharetta Big Peach Running Company store. “Physically, running burns a significant amount of calories in very little time. Mentally, running allows an escape to everyday stresses, reducing anxiety of the wedding planning and everyday life.” Not sure you can do it? Get started by joining up with one of the store’s weekly Monday Night Group Runs. “Our Monday night run is beneficial for all runners,” Auers said. “Most of the runners participating in our group run are not hard core runners. The camaraderie among this group is fantastic and it’s always enjoyable to hear encouraging stories about races and training.” Plus, none of the weekly group runs cost a dime (which means more for the wedding budget!). Apparel hints for new (or veteran) runners: Brides, in particular, should invest in a good sports bra. Big Peach carries Moving Comfort, which is a brand of bras dedicated to supporting chests of all shapes and sizes during exercise. Our model loved the easily adjustable (Velcro!) gel padded straps on this Fionna style, so much so she didn’t want to take it off. She’s also sporting a pair of compression socks (these are from Mercury Sox), which help keep shin splints away (another problem that may threaten new runners). Whether you choose one of these fun new ways to amp up your heart rate, or fi nd your own formula for shaping up, getting fit gets your mind and body in the best condition to say "I do," and stay healthy well after the honeymoon phase. checklist — for some, it may not even be featured at all, since the groom should take care of it. But, as any Type A bride knows, it’s always better to have a backup plan, even for the little things. Thus, we took the liberty of rounding up some of our favorite man-cave worthy items, tried and true by real groomsmen here on the Northside, that provide perfect, simple, cool ways to appreciate the guys in your guy’s life. And since donning a three-piece suit, being on their best behavior and rehearsing speeches might not be an everyday occurrence for some of his groomsmen, help make it worth their while. Still looking for a special wedding day gift for the groom himself? Consider this your own personal cheat sheet, too.
Golf Ball & Tee Cufflinks by Nautica It’s a growing trend to gift your groomsmen with something they can use to spruce up their wedding day wardrobe. But, instead of a tie that only matches the bridesmaids’ dresses, get them something they can continue to sport for years to come. These polished nickel, double-ended cufflinks are a subtle way for the guys to show off their golf affinity — a little bling for any occasion that’s still “sporty.” Regularly priced at $35, these are available at Macy’s at North Point Mall or online at macys.com. Stainless Steel, Woodgrain Hip Flask by Supply by Chrit (shown in dark walnut) For your buddies who like to sip from something a little more sophisticated, this vessel provides a manly way to do it. No fingerprints, no tarnishing and easy ways to personalize it, this makes for the perfect guy’s gift. Even better, these guys are your neighbors, cranking out cool gift items in Roswell. This one prices at $16.99, but there are a million ways to flash up the flask of your choice in their Etsy shop, supplybychrit.etsy.com. Wall-Mounted Bottle Opener by Damian’s Woodworks What’s more convenient than a bottle opener? One that only uses one hand, obviously. Plus, one that looks as sharp as these customizable woodgrain wall mounts, makes home décor something the men will start thinking about. Damian’s Woodworks is a favorite of ours, as they seek out the swankiest pieces of raw wood then sand them, stain them and engrave them to their utmost potential, right here in Alpharetta. And, of course, since this gift has a practical purpose, you really can’t go wrong getting them into the hands of the men you know. This one sells for $29 and you can whittle the details down online damianswoodworks.etsy.com.

THE NORTHSIDE BRIDE | Spring/Summer 2014
Hand-Dyed Pocket Square by Charlotte Lane When it comes to men, it’s more than the thought that counts. Practicality and durability rank way higher (unless it’s a toy). That’s why these custom, handmade pocket squares provide a unique way to brighten up the everyday, whether you’re headed to dinner, kicking it to a casual soirée or trying to impress someone with a unique adornment to the average sport coat. These aren’t silk, so they can’t ruin them and they aren’t paisley, so the guys won’t turn their noses up. Each square sells for $12 online at charlotteln.com. Turf Base Coasters by Bergino Baseball Clubhouse Okay, these may be the coolest things we’ve ever seen. Coasters, yes. But, they’re made of bona fide Astroturf, meaning you’ve literally built the field so that condensating glasses everywhere would come. We’re not sure what kind of guy you’re marrying, but this is pretty much making most of his childhood (and undeniably adult) dreams come true. There are a million cool collections online so you can choose the appropriate sports-inspired gift for the ushers, the groomsmen and any other significant males making the big day happen. These coasters are priced at $14.95 and must be ordered online at bergino.com. Bullet Bottle Openers by MR Pens You’ve seen the mini, keychain versions before, but these are the big guns, literally. Made from 50-caliber bullets, there’s nothing wimpy about cracking open cold ones when they’re in the bar tool set. They’re durable, they’ll undoubtedly get a conversation started and they can be engraved to personalize the way your man wants to say, “Thank you.” These guys start at $20 and you can line up your gift messages online at mrpens.etsy.com.

If your date nights often consist of art fairs, gallery openings and foreign films, a trip to New York City is the ideal place for your post-wedding getaway. While honeymooning in New York, be sure to stay at the Empire Hotel. Located on W. 63rd Street at Broadway, the hotel is the “gateway to the Upper West Side,” allowing for fast and easy access to all areas of the city like the Lincoln Center, Central Park and the museums of Central Park West. This hotel is the ideal stay for culture-loving couples. Its retro candlelight Lobby Bar offers guests a place to sip on muddled mojitos while seated on a plush leather stool at the custom granite bar, a bi-level Pooldeck provides a spectacular 180-degree view of New York City and includes customdesigned sun beds and plunge pool, and Ed’s Chowder chic sea shack restaurant is designed to take guests away from the bustling city streets and make them feel as though they walked in off the shore. empirehotelnyc.com PHOTOS COURTESY OF THE EMPIRE HOTEL

A f t e r w e e k s of be i ng surrounded by people, most couples want some alone time, but you’re not the kind of couple that likes to stay indoors. Instead, you’d rather have on-the-go alone time. So grab your significant other and visit the Bahamas as your first adventure together as husband and wife. At Kamalame Cay, couples get to enjoy each other while scuba diving, taking guided and eco tours of the island, or exploring Andros Island together. Couples can even paddle one of Kamalame’s sea kayaks along gentle inland creeks or explore further off the coast. Competitive couples can play a game of tennis or see who can catch the most fish. And when you are finally ready to unwind, you and your new spouse can go to the Great House for gently aged rum and local seafood, or melt into relaxing treatments at the Overwater Spa. kamalame.com PHOTOS COURTESY OF ANAIS GANOUNAN PHOTOGRAPHY; VALLENTYNE PHOTOGRAPHY; JOHN RUNNING

Rest and relaxation is just what the newly married couple needs now that the wedding is finally over. Say goodbye to your family and friends and head to Hotel Santa Caterina in Italy for some much needed serenity. When it comes to de-stressing, Italy is the perfect place to visit right after a wedding for some alone time with your new spouse. At Hotel Santa Caterina’s exclusive wellness center, honeymooners can indulge in a fabulous range of face and body treatments, performed using essences of Mediterranean herbs and citrus fruits, all designed to re-establish natural balance, and leave guests feeling relaxed, energized and rejuvenated. If that isn’t enough, take a long swim in the heated, sea water swimming pool to relax tense muscles. Honeymooners can even relax in their suites with the living area, balcony or terrace overlooking the sea of the Amalfi Coast. While R&R comes easily at Hotel Santa Caterina, newlyweds can also enjoy exploring the Amalfi Coast, Bay of Naples and the area around Vesuvius, where they can take in the sights, sounds and pleasures of the beautiful historic towns that make Italy such a haven of peace and tranquility. hotelsantacaterina.it/en PHOTOS COURTESY OF HOTEL SANTA CATERINA
