Musicut Graduation production first place honor Official selected in Taiwan Designer’s Week 07’ This project deconstructs the general public’s preconceived impression for papercutting. Traditional tangible graphics are always first come out when think about paper-cutting. Sounds, which are commonly neglected in the art form of papercutting, and created from the production are used to remind the public of the labor that went into the creative process and also the fun that could be enjoyed from this art form. Through an approach of commodification, the art of papercutting is introduced to the masses. The paper packaging of the products is compiled together to shape the space from two dimensional to three dimensional. Additionally, scissor-shaped forms are incorporated into the line of scissor products, and the consumers are invited to experiment with creative art-making at home. This product line places emphasis on the paper-cutting sounds, and includes six different scissors (blades) of various sizes and shapes. 78 different sounds derived from the six different scissors cutting 13 different types of papers are recorded with the high-definition of bit/96kHz. The promotional video includes a 30-second sound piece composed with those sounds. Additionally, the stop-motion approach is used to deliver a deconstructed impression that is also experimental and playful.

Extended cover, Paper, Injet Paper, 20 x 27 x 4.5 cm.

RCS print media – corporate design DESIGN Pegatron Corporation Beitou, Taipei, Taiwan CLIENT Pegatron Corporation Beitou, Taipei, Taiwan With the relevance of eco-friendly initiatives increasing every day, Pegatron, as a high sustainability-awareness company, is urging to think ECO. We use integrated graphic design to get the best possible value and maximum use out of our packaging box. We have designed a logotype and a series of carton symbols for different functions to reuse in different categories. Each symbol represents its different needs for users to use it again. The carton has been given a new life by serving different purposes after it has been disassembled, thus reducing the pollution caused by mass recycling. It is no longer cradle-to-grave, but cradle-to-cradle!

The carton packaging of the LCD monitor can be easily transformed by folding the boxes according to the pre-printed lines. Now it becomes a rocking horse.

it’s a necessity for developing enterprises to introduce the concept of green economics and social responsibility. PEGATRON’s design team PEGACASA is promoting “RCS” (Reusing Carton Standard). By incorporating traditional packaging cardboard material into our designs, we hope to inspire more consumers to rethink how they throw away packaging materials. Our message is clear: packing materials can and should be reused to increase value in this world. Due to the damage of climate change, therefore, PEGACASA wants to offer the world a new way to think about sustainability. During the promotion of RCS, our design team thought hard about how packaging materials can be reused easily and without hassle. Now, any cardboard boxes with a RCS logo can be easily transformed by folding the boxes according to the pre-printed lines. Rather than throwing our packaging materials into land fills, we can easily reduce our waste and carbon dioxide output by reusing and transforming the RCS boxes. When disaster occurs, companies who have joined the RCS program can use our packaging cardboard boxes to transport food and supply. The boxes can then easily be reused and rebuilt as homes in the large public refuge space.

The temporary shelter is designed at a height of 180 cm. Our team had observed that the original cubical design was not very space-efficient. In order to utilise more space and increase structural strength, our team decided to incorporate a six-sided structure. Inspired by beehives, we discovered that beehive honeycombs are composed of closely packed hexagons-- space-efficient and flexible to changes. Mathematically, hexagons tiles a plane with minimal surface area. Therefore, a hexagonal structure can use the least material to create a lattice of cells within a given volume.

Thus, perimeter to area ratio is low; hexagon tiles the plane with minimal surface area. Thus, a hexagonal structure uses the least material to build the best space. As Lee Cheng-yi said: “Not only is our physical structural design inspired by the beehive honeycomb, so is the spirit of the design. Not only are bees hardworking, they are united together for a common cause.” Each of the six-walls in the hexagonal space provides a different function. Through our designs, it is easy to assemble the parts, making the space not only functional but fun. The truth is, RCS is not just a new packaging material. It’s a logo and a new way of thinking about packaging that emphasises reusability. A RCS box can efficiently solve many sustainability problems. The best part is, after the boxes are used, the material can be easily recycled and reused again.
