Do you have what it takes to travel the world? Would your friends follow you to hell and back? And when the gods and all your luck turn against you: would you still have the strength to make it home? After 10 years of war in Troy, the Greek hero Odysseus sets off for home and family. But he must face many dangers and wild adventures – one-eyed giants, shipwrecks and sea-monsters – before he gets there. With only one actor, a chicken, some songs and you the audience, this promises to be a playful, interactive experience that will bring Key Stage 2 History, the Ancient Greeks, to life.

He might be able to help with his bag full of ears and his collection of weird and wonderful tools. But when he looks inside – the musical notes are packing their bags and running away. An Actor’s Life Workshop
Our professional puppet and prop makers deliver workshops exploring rod puppets, hand puppets, two dimensional puppets, junk puppets or the art of object manipulation. Focussing on a theme or book you are studying, we can work with your group to create puppets and bring them to life.
Learn warm-ups, acting techniques, improvisation exercises and some of the tricks of the trade.
Playwriting Workshops Our playwrights visit your class and work with them on devising their own script, using creative drama techniques to focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Curtain-Up! Has your school got a high proportion of pupils on free school meals? Can you not attend the theatre, with your class, due to financial reasons? Calling all Year 5 & 6 teachers! Would you like the chance to work with a leading playwright and professional theatre practitioners with the opportunity for your schools to perform a new play at Polka, written by one of Britain’s top playwrights. Polka is now recruiting six Year 5 & 6 class teachers to take part in Playhouse 2013. This unique creative learning and teacher development project has been running since 2005, in partnership with York Theatre Royal, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Dundee Rep. Previous writers have included Jane Thornton, David Wood and children’s laureate Julia Donaldson.
