Puppet-making Workshops
Play in a Day
Our professional puppet and prop makers deliver workshops exploring rod puppets, hand puppets, two dimensional puppets, junk puppets or the art of object manipulation. Focusing on a theme or book you are studying, we can work with your group to create puppets and bring them to life.
Our director visits your class and works with them throughout the day to devise a play. We can focus on a specific theme or aspect of the curriculum and through improvisation, role play and storytelling techniques, use drama to explore other areas of learning.

From what’s going on up in the atmosphere to where that sweet wrapper in your pocket came from, and where it might end up, climate change takes centre stage.

Meet the world’s friendliest gorilla this winter as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the classic award-winning picture book by former Children’s Laureate Anthony Browne – brought to life with puppetry, music and a giant sprinkling of Polka magic.

Calling all Year 5 and 6 teachers! Would you like the chance to work with a leading playwright and professional theatre practitioners? Playhouse gives your school the opportunity to perform a new play written by one of Britain’s top playwrights on the Polka stage. Polka is now recruiting six Year 5 and 6 class teachers to take part in Playhouse 2014. This unique creative learning and teacher development project has been running since 2005, in partnership with York Theatre Royal and Theatre Royal Plymouth.
