News, People, Openings... Ralph Lauren in London. Mr. Lauren was presented with the knighthood insignia of Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, the greatest honor the kingdom awards to non-Britons. It’s a recognition of Ralph Lauren’s contribution to British life over his career, celebrating his impact on the worlds of fashion, business, and philanthropy. In a private ceremony hosted by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Ralph Lauren was presented with the knighthood insignia of Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, in recognition of his extensive philanthropic efforts, his unparalleled influence on the landscape of global style, and his long-time love of the culture, heritage, and people of Great Britain. Ralph Lauren with his family in a private ceremony at Buckingham Palace in which His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales presented Mr. Lauren with the medal signifying his new title: Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, a first for an American fashion designer.

The ceremony marked the culmination of a long-standing mutual admiration between the iconic American designer and America’s most steadfast ally. “I’ve always loved England because it was non-fashion,” Mr. Lauren has said. “It was timeless. It was not about what was the latest new sleekness. It was about weathering and those things that get better with age.” Photos: @ralphscoffee

Brunello Cucinelli Men‘s Love for the art, the tradition and the Italian craftsmanship

Collection 2019

Living in harmony with the natural environment creates a spontaneous connection between the senses, where the elements come together in a perfectly balanced symphony. The brand’s distinctive spirit finds its rich, natural expression in the calibrated combination of traditional elegance and dynamism, which are the typical characteristics of an evolving, lively and refined period of time, able to embrace new ideas. The sartorial contours of the suits make perfect use of unique fabrics and are always blended with sports details, which convey new energy to men’s style: shirts with colorful patterns, detailed tshirts, and super-lightweight sweatshirts.

‘‘The great dream of my life has always been to work for the moral and economic dignity of mankind‘‘ Brunello Cucinelli

In solid colors or with traditional patterns, jackets play a fundamental role in creating balance, always combined with sports details, like the contrasting topstitch on garment-dyed trousers, and the slightly distressed details or stone-washed effects for denim.

DIOR Welcome Dinner at the The palace is a gem of Islamic art, a concentration of architectural beauty. Cedar wood cupolas, Murano chandeliers, zellige tiles, and sculpted wood and marble are among the materials used to decorate this unimaginably sumptuous edifice. The high walls that surround the immense esplanade landscaped with gardens and planted with orange trees attest to its past splendour. This exceptional palace was the setting for the 2020 Cruise show.

For its cruise 2020 collection, the French fashion house traveled to one of the most stunning locations, Marrakech. The show took place in El Badi Palace, a historic palace dating back to the 16th century, Dior lit up its runway with hundreds of floating candles and fire pits.

A source of inspiration magnified by the Dior ateliers, the spirit of Morocco has marked the House’s history and accompanied its collections. Presented in Marrakech, the 2020 Cruise show by Maria Grazia Chiuri pays fervent homage to the richness of traditional Moroccan cultures as well as to Dior’s heritage and savoir-faire.

Virgil Abloh’s first show for Louis Vuitton took place at the gardens of the Palais Royal in Paris. As the sun shone down on the gardens of the Palais Royal, the significance of his central visual metaphor, the rainbow, also sank in. All colors, all nationalities, all identities, and generations welcome here, it said. His starting point, was the idea of white light hitting a prism, and dividing into its component colors. The personal symbolism, his identity as a designer of his own brand, Off-White was exercised, classily transmuted into the opening look.

“Revert against stiff and formal. Look as comfortable as you feel.” – Virgil Abloh.

Virgil Abloh met the challenge of designing for what is essentially a luxury accessories company by merging bags, wallets, and card holders into hybrid garments holsters, harnesses, protective zippered vests.

Exclusive Interview with Designer Sheila Vance Founder of Sama Eyewear

What drew you to a Eyewear designer and specifically to starting your own brand? There were several factors at work within when I decided to embark on a career in eyewear. For as long as I can remember and since I was a child wearing glasses -I felt that wearing eyewear was a "sentence" and a burden for people. I was different and stood out but not for a positive reason and children can be cruel so the downside of associations with eyewear always stuck with me. It was corrective and necessary but not joyful to find or buy because there was not a sense of fashion, fun and whimsy or a great way to express oneself like when buying a handbag or earring or necklace. Very early on in my career I had stores and was importing and selling accessories including sunglasses.

Finest And Most Exclusive Brand Of Luxury Fashion Eyewear I thought that this was perhaps the most important accessory anyone would put on every day, framing their face and highlighting their features, giving a first impression to the world but there was nothing truly beautiful or inspiring about it. I found quickly that most of it was a bit boring or basic, uninspired or low quality. I found myself often thinking of what could be better or different to make a specific frame into a fantastic accessory for the face. I thought that eyewear could and should enhance your beauty not detract from it. I wanted people to feel happy, fashionable, beautiful and joyful buying and wearing their eyewear. I knew that an eyewear wardrobe was possible of great shapes styles, mateirals and looks from a beach weekend to work week and boardroom or ball room cocktail or couture. Just like clothing and other accessories, so my research began from there to understand the engineering and manufacturing. Jennifer Lopez rocks the Sama Eyewear ‘‘Bianca‘‘ in pearl

From where do you get your design inspiration?

What are some of the materials you use in your collection?

For me, inspiration can come from anywhere. I travel extensively and enjoy art, fashion and textiles, architecture and design, nature hikes, and beaches around the world. I have found that jewelry, cars, and buildings have lines, curves, shapes, and details that I can translate into eyewear in meaningful ways. It is also easy to find inspiration daily in the amazing cultures and people I have met along the way in urban cities and remote locals globally. I continue to find inspiration in objects d'art, people and places I love and admire who push me to move the needle in terms of design and technology to new heights. Locally in Los Angeles were Sama was born and raised so to speak, we created an entire collection that was inspired by the influencers, disruptors, and activists who make up the incredible city combining the golden luxe of Hollywood Glamour and star power with intricate specialized techniques for an overt the top look with hidden details representing how beyond the glitterati is the undercurrent of the culture to embrace issues and causes that difference in the world.

We are eclectic in our materials and often we have introduced materials that were not traditionally used in the eyewear and optical business. Titanium, Carbon Fiber, wood buffalo horn, acetate and precious metals ( gold and platinum) are the main core of our materials but we have also included leather, feathers, pearls and processes or techniques such as laser cutting and lamination, enamel cloisonne, beads and Swarovski crystals. How would you describe the style of your Eyewear brand? Just as our materials are eclectic our style is eclectic too. For Sama "style" is a broad based word where we appeal to a global, luxury shopper who is a individual who is an influencer not an adapter. We are a brand for those who are noticed of we have a sharp, strong varied range of styles and collections from sporty to glamorous, simple and delicate and wild and bold. Each of our collections can be defined and described as individual, unique, distinctive and of the highest quality.

If you had to choose a favourite piece you have designed, what would it be? This is such a hard question to answer -- because I love so many of our frames for so many reasons and because each pair has a story and a journey that is so personal to me. Each and every design starts a new creative process with new directions, twists and turns. I have often said that we have a great love affair with our collection. And for me, with this being my life work - Sama Eyewear is basically a romance - epic almost - with so much time, attention, passion and love poured into each pair. From my first inspiration to paper sketches to computer work, the natural elements and materials we select and the details we pour into each pair back and forth over several continents touching hundreds of hands. For me, each story has the most beautiful ending. It is hard to choose because once the story ends - I start the next with the same intensity, love and commitment and I am in a new romance. There are certainly specific pieces or collections we introduced to the market that were influential or awardwinning. Some were disruptive or elevated the market and countless hundreds were copied Basically, I want someone to find their love story with their perfect frames to create their wardrobe to compliment their life. Eyewear is the most important accessory we wear every day to express our individuality and style, highlight our features, frame the face and give us a picture perfect vision in life. Sama is part of that vision.

Lenny Kravitz in Sama Eyewear

What is your life philosophy? The name SAMA comes from the old Sanskrit meaning from no beginning no end. A circle, a cycle, a continuation which applies to everything in life and something I believe. We can not look back, not change the past so every experience leads to the next and contributes to our path and pushing us onward and forward. I believe that we are always continuing on the journey and we need to take with us what is good no looking back no regrets. I believe that everything happens for a reason. A door may seem to close but another is absolutely opening even if you don't see it at first.

We will only be our best if we surround ourselves with the best, brightest those who share the missions and visions we set forth in our "cycle" of business, friendships and life. We have only one life to live and since it is in essence a cycle with no beginning and no end, we need to be sure we include only the good in the cycle so it will continue with positivity and resulting good. I have come through considerable adversities in life and have found a path to a happy and successful life and business – but it did not come easy and it did not happen to me, I had to create the intentions and make it happen for myself with great people at my side.

Christian Louboutin

From Portugal with Love

This season, Maison Christian Louboutin delivers its new version of the tote, highlighting the Portuguese craftsmanship and their meticulous savoir-faire for precious details. The handmade Portugalcaba, crafted in white canvas, features woolen fringes, multicolored embroidery, traditional ceramic beads and a CL coat of arms. All is inspired by traditional costumes and typical Portuguese arts. Practical and functional, its removable shoulder strap allows shoulder wear or, with its two handles, carried by hand. The model is lined with a linen canvas inspired by azulejos reminiscent of Portuguese ceramic tiles

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN‘S Portugaba Inspired by the artisanal map of Portugal

“Portugal is one of the places I go to design my summer collections. The light here, the laid-back people and the vibe is very inspiring to me.” From the sun-drenched coast of the Algarve to the brightly tiled streets of Lisbon. Portugal summons vivid images and serves as a source of creative inspiration for designer Christian Louboutin. “Year after year, I have spent days exploring different regions following recommendations from friends, going from a little embroiderer in Alenteio to a cestería [basketry workshop] in the Algarve. I’ve discovered people with a great savoir faire and a real sense for colour combination and patterns. It gave me the desire to design a bag as a tribute to the love I have for this country.” Aligning with artisans from across the country, the creation of the Portugaba tote nods to Portugal’s rich history and tradition of craftsmanship.

“You have a lot of ways to imagine Portugal but I really wanted to create a bag that felt quite earthy because there is something almost rustic in the Portuguese modality. I didn’t want something too delicate; I wanted the bag to have a form of solidity.” www.christianlouboutine.com

Serving almost like an artisanal map of Portugal – the beadwork on its handles, the referencing of azulejos tiles, the masterly mix of bold colours on its fringe – the Portugaba is a manifesto of skills, time and artistry.

A portion of the proceeds from every sale of the Portugaba bag will be donated to Portuguese charities christianlouboutin.com

AMOUAGE Interview with Creative Director Christopher Chong

Which Amouage fragrance do you use? I try to avoid using any fragrance on a daily basis to keep my nose fresh. Overexposure to fragrances could cloud and inhibit my senses and so, I prefer not to use perfumes. If I did wear perfumes, I would wear Fate for man. It is potent, spicy and woody and perfect for that special moment that may come unexpectedly. For me, it is not so much a fragrance, but art. Jubilation is also a favourite as it gives me so many memories of starting in this business. What are the most important ingredients? I like to go beyond conventional boundaries when it comes to ingredients and source them from all over the world, but my favourite has to be Absinthe, it appears a lot in my men‘s range. We use only the finest of ingredients, both natural and synthetic, and as many natural ingredients permitted by various governing bodies. In fact, synthetic molecules are becoming very popular in the fragrance industry today because it provides limitless creative possibilities.

Where do you work on your projects? I am based in Amouage’s London office and travel the world to meet with customers from all walks of life, which I believe is one of the most rewarding aspects of my role; sharing personal stories and journeys through perfumery. I also work directly with leading perfumers in Grasse, Paris, Geneva and New York. Who or what is your inspiration? Maria Callas has always given me inspiration, and I wish I was born earlier so I could have met her. I love how she challenged the type of thinking that things that are perceived as ugly in the conventional sense can be beautiful. When creating a perfume, I interpret what I see and feel into scents. All that happens around us can be translated to a much more intimate. Life experiences are my inspiration. Music is also my inspiration; I express my vision through a series of narratives. I was trained as a Lyric Baritone and as Creative Director; I now ‘sing’ various song cycles and would describe it as bottling art and emotions. What is your life philosophy? To live every moment and to have every experience while remaining authentic and keeping true to yourself. We must figure out what we want to do, who we want to be and be true to ourselves. I would also say that integrity is the most important principle to live by.

Passion THE ESSENCE OF POLO Polo flows in your veins, is the king of your heart, is the rhytm of your stride – this is passion, this is love.

The Sport Of Kings

Learn how to play polo with Engel & Völkers + Land Rover Polo School By supporting the Engel & Völkers Polo School, Land Rover is actively taking part in spreading the polo spirit and, in particular, promoting young talent.

We had the pleasure to speak to Christian Völkers, talking about his real estate business and his passion polo You are many years in the real estate business, how was your beginning, did you always want to become a real estate agent? I started brokering property while I was still at university studying for a Business degree at the end of the 1970s. My friends just couldn’t understand me at the time, as everyone else wanted to go into something related to computers or management consultancy. Real estate agents had an even worse reputation than they do today. But I saw an opportunity to re-shape and dust away the cobwebs of the service standard on offer. To switch the focus from the property to the client.

Let’s talk about polo which is one of your passions, tell us how did you get started in polo? I was introduced to polo more than 20 years ago through a good friend of mine. He asked me if I was interested in trying it out. That is exactly what I did and it immediately became a great passion of mine. Polo is my favourite sport and my most enjoyable hobby. A hobby I usually find the most time to pursue on Majorca, my second home. I own a typical finca estate there with its own polo field. The property is the ideal setting for combining both the dynamism of the game with the tranquillity of an exceptional property. In addition to that, I try to play polo in the early morning before I go to our office in Hamburg.

What do you enjoy about polo? Firstly, the fact that polo is a team sport and strategically very demanding if you want to play at a high level. Another aspect that gives me great pleasure is the close affinity between the sport and the animals. I see many parallels between the game and the way we do business: speed and agility, perfect collaboration, acting with foresight, precision and reliability. All are key to success both on the polo field and in the property business. Promoting the sport is very close to my heart, and I fulfilled a long-held wish in 2014 with the founding of the Engel & Völkers + Land Rover Polo School. What is your personal insider’s tip for striking the perfect hit? It is important to always keep the head down and for the eyes to be focused on the ball. In order to be able to do this, it is essential to have a compassionate understanding with the horse. The animal is similar to a joystick; it must be agile and be able to move in all directions and to accelerate promptly when asked to do so. If this works out, then the jockey can concentrate completely on the ball, or on the next stroke or tactic moves.

A moment with Argentine Polo Player Nacho Figueras We have had the pleasure to meet and talk to one of the best polo players in the world, Nacho Figueras.

“Having my face in all these magazines, advertisements and billboards has given me the recognition to be able to promote the sport of polo, which is ultimately what is important to me.”

Nacho Figueras is a man who loves horses. In fact, he loves them so much that in June 2010, he brought one, a polo pony named Duke, into the New York Stock exchange to ring the closing bell. Figueras and Duke were there to promote the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, a free charity event with Prince Harry played on New York’s Governor’s Island that weekend and it was the first time a horse had ever entered the NYSE.

“When I was 12 years old, ” he once told the Charlie Rose Show, “My uncle gave me a Ralph Lauren shirt…with a little polo thing. You know, I couldn’t say, okay, I will have one in blue, one in a white one, and a red one. I just had one. So, I kept it in my closet. And you know, 20 years later, I’m here representing them.” Such is the man that is shaping up to be the most famous face of polo. He is one of the most handsomest men in the world, Nacho Figueras is the face of Ralph Lauren’s World of Polo fragrances. It’s a role that dates back to 2005 when he was named to model Ralph Lauren Black, and most recently, Figueras and his wife, the photographer and former model Delfina Blaquier, have together starred in the advertising campaign for the Ralph Lauren fragrance, Romance. “The great thing about being a polo player, the face of Ralph Lauren’s Polo fragrances and also being a father is that it all works together. I am a father who travels the world with his wife and children playing polo – that is exactly what the world of polo represents.”

Polo Cup in Rome 2019 THE DUKE OF SUSSEX BRINGS SENTEBALE ISPS HANDA POLO CUP TO ROME, ITALY

The Duke of Sussex took to the polo field in support of children and young people affected by HIV at the 2019 Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup on 24 May 2019, in support of Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso. The annual fundraising event took place at the Roma Polo Club, Rome in Italy and brought together distinguished guests from around the

world who showed their support for the charity’s work helping youth affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Africa. In the eventful match the Sentebale St Regis team won 9 to 6 goals over the U.S. Polo Assn. team. The match featured valiant performances from The Duke of Sussex, ex-England international polo player, Malcolm Borwick and

Richard Miller, CEO of Sentebale said,

St. Regis and Sentebale Ambassador, one of the world’s leading polo players, Nacho Figueras. Sentebale’s flagship event has been running for nine years taking place in different locations around the world. This is the first time the prestigious event has taken place at Italy’s longest standing club, which has had extended history of royal visits, with Her Majesty The Queen watching a polo match which featured The Duke of Edinburgh as the captain of the British team almost 70 years ago.

“We are so grateful to all our generous sponsors who continue to help young people affected by the HIV epidemic in southern Africa. We are making progress in the battle against HIV and AIDS but there is still a long way to go and Sentebale needs vital funds. In a country like Lesotho, where Sentabale began, the number of HIV infections has halved in the last decade but sadly HIV prevalence amongst young women is still increasing. It is vital that we can continue to deliver muchneeded care, education and critical psychosocial support, encouraging young people to know and safely manage their HIV status. The funds raised through this annual flagship event remain key to supporting Sentebale’s high quality, community led programmes so we can help achieve the goal of an AIDS free generation in Southern Africa.”

A block printed scenic wallpaper takes about a year to print, while a more standard repeating wallpaper should be ready in approximately four weeks‘‘. ‘‘We are involved every day in very exciting projects: Some handmade wall coverings for private members' clubs, scenes for TV and movie sets, etc.. One that we are very proud to have been part of is Christian Dior's house in the south of France for which we were commissioned by Dior to re-manufacture an entire scenic wallpaper‘‘.

Eco-lodge project, Kasiiya Papagayo

Costa Rica Kasiiya Papagayo created by architecture agency AW², pushes the architecture and resort experience towards a new dimension, in a new way of thinking about ecology. Tucked away in the heart of the Costa Rican jungle, Kasiiya Papagayo’s 5 tents are built on wooden platforms. The project successfully achieves AW²’s goal to leave no scars on the landscape. It demonstrates that luxury can have a new relationship with the world: it can be more stealthy, respectful, and authentic. Architecture and nature can live in symbiosis and no longer in opposition, without trying to gain ground on one another.

‘‘Enjoying the Earth without consuming it‘‘

Common spaces acting as relaxation areas allow guests to meet others or spend time with loved ones.

This is Kasiiya Papagayo’s concept, whose ambition is to peacefully blend and disappear into nature. It also shows outdoor living in a new spirit: a new concept of chic which moves luxury to other horizons. Kasiiya Papagayo’s tented retreats are stylish, minimalist rafts that float, hidden, in the jungle. Reconnecting with nature and with each other is this new complex’s ambition. Each Kasiiya Papagayo tent is accessed by a private road and is carefully oriented to reconnect with nature.

Reda Amalou & Stéphanie Ledoux founders of AW² commented,

Meet The Glitter Artist Yana Potter Yana Potter is one of these new wave glitter artists, one of the Insta age and it’s fair to say she’s become somewhat of a digi art sensation. Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about yourself and how did you started your career and did you always wanted to become an artist? My name is Yana Potter. I’m a Glitter Artist from Russia. As far back as I can remember, I was always interested in visual art. There was a moment when I was thoroughly studying painting, painting pictures using acryl and oil. I have a number of works I am really proud of. Besides, during the last 8 years, I have been professionally practicing photography, studying Photoshop. Thus, contemporary art – I mean digital technologies, photo processing software – gradually superseded my desire to paint pictures and I thoroughly got down to study photo processing software. I can’t say I had a purpose to become an artist, I rather accumulated enough experience to start creating something that is my own and first of all to find myself and to start express myself. For a long time, I was searching myself, in all senses. And finally, there is a moment when I can definitely say that visual art is exactly that thing I’m ready to devote my life to.

From where do you get your inspiration? I travel a lot. Wherever I would come, I first of all try to visit several art museums or art galleries in this country. For me, a trip to another country and submersion into a new culture and language is like a breath of fresh air every time. By the way, an idea to practice Glitter Art came to me during one of such trips. I was in Czech Republic that moment, and Prague became a start point for me as for Glitter Artist. I also derive inspiration from music. During the last year, I’ve been listening to Ludovico Einaudi albums almost continuously. To my mind, classic music together with visual art literally breathe a life into this world. Is there an artist you look up to? Initially, I looked for artists who create something similar. I was interested in a technique of so-called Glitter Art creating. I watched videos in the internet, studies everything connected with graphic design, collaging. Some time passed, and now I listen to myself only, to my intuition, to my mood. Now I just have no time to study activities of other artist in similar style. Describe a typical day in your life at work? I usually start my day with a cup of strong coffee and answering emails. It’s like a ritual: I open my mail and always answer all letters, no matter if it is a letter from a fan of my art or proposal of collaboration. Then I proceed to work at my orders. I try to spend not more than 5 hours per day for commercial orders. The rest of my time is devoted to creativity. I look through my old works, rework and update them. I look for new photos for processing. I make content plan. I constantly improve my skills. I study new processing techniques.

How long do you usually need for one picture? Each photo is a new project. I make a sketch in a special software, then I need about an hour to check for sure if my technique will fit this photo or not. So, everything is very individually for every separate case. I sometimes need one hour to complete work, sometimes – two days to make corrections or I put it on the back burner and it can take up to two weeks. Therefore, I don’t like when a client hurries me and wants to get his glitter picture quicker. But I still try to complete commercial orders within agreed deadline – from 1 to 3 days. What’s one motto you live by? To live leaving a trail I would like to follow by myself.

This 5th edition of the world’s most elegant automotive competition welcomed 18,000 visitors on Sunday, 30 June. Stopping by to discover unbelievable concept cars, side by side with the most beautiful classic cars in existence, a large number of Richard Mille partners were on hand to share this singular moment with the brand. The inaugural event on Saturday was the supercar rally, which, all morning, transformed the Mortefontaine track into a giant playground for the world’s most exceptional automobiles, notably McLarens. Practicing Slaloms, braking and a speed bowl, participants were able to take full advantage of these racing machines. Among those present, skiing champion Alexis Pinturault made no secret of how much he enjoyed perfecting his trajectory and experiencing chills and thrills at the wheel of a 720S Spider. In parallel with this introduction to the track, a lunch at the Palais de Compiègne in the company of Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake concluded the Rallye des Collectionneurs, an opportunity for the public to admire some extremely rare cars, such as the McLaren P1 GTR and 720s, Ferrari’s LaFerrari, Enzo and 288 GTO models, the Porsche 918 and various Mercedes SLRs.

Attendees were then treated to exceptional dishes Just prior to the traditional gala dinner at the Grandes Écuries de Chantilly, an architectural masterpiece from the 18th century, champion rider Jessica von Bredow-Werndl put on a sublime demonstration in dressage for the evening’s 500 guests. Attendees were then treated to exceptional dishes imagined by three chefs; Australian actress Margot Robbie proved especially receptive to this aspect of French art de vivre, as waiters and hostesses orchestrated this ephemeral embodiment of a multi-starred restaurant. At 9 o’clock on Sunday 30 June, the Concours d’Elegance opened the day. On the lawns designed by Le Nôtre, visitors were invited to discover the greatest automotive masterpieces of all time and many other attractions, such a boat ride on the Grand Canal, a fairground, old-fashioned games and an unprecedented exhibition devoted to ‘The Nude Mona Lisa’ at the Musée Condé. Visitors also had a chance to attend the prestigious Bonhams auction.

This EDITIONS was marked by a number of significant anniversaries: the centenary of Bentley and Ballot, the 100th anniversary of Bugatti, a 50th birthday for the iconic Porsche 917, 20 years of the Pagani Zonda and the 50th anniversary of Jackie Steward’s

Formula 1 title with Matra.

The Richard Mille lounge played off the contrast between a futuristic vision and the Renaissance spirit of the event. Located close to the Airbus Corporate Jets and McLaren stands, guests congregated in a neo-Futurist décor from cinema’s most famous automobile: the DeLorean that featured in Back to the Future.

Cartier

Trinity Ring History Cartier and Jean Cocteau in Milly-la-Forêt Cartier’s Trinity ring has inspired a collection of intertwined jewels and remained one of the classic jewellery designs of all time, launched in 1942.

c Keystone – Jean Cocteau in his garden in Milly-la-Foret

It may be almost a century old, but the Trinity ring remains one of Cartier’s most iconic creations. A cult classic comprised of three bands of grey, yellow and pink gold, forever joined in a tactile embrace, the ring has, over the decades, spawned a whole collection of Cartier Trinity jewels, all of which incorporate the same intertwined bands of gold. Designed by Louis Cartier in 1924 at the request of the French artist, novelist, poet and filmmaker Jean Cocteau, the design looks no less contemporary today, which makes it even more remarkable. In the 1920s, with the Art Deco era in full swing and Flapper style at its peak, Cartier was famous for its colourful and exotic creations. To create something like the Trinity ring – pared back to the basics of pure design, with no embellishments – showed great bravura.

Milly: an environment in tune with the poet A genuine rustic retreat, Jean Cocteau’s house in Milly-la-Forêt is a reflection of the poet’s world. It was his ideal “backdrop”, as he once stated.

Purchased by the poet in 1947, the house, with its sumptuous interior decoration and bucolic garden, will open its doors to the public in Spring 2010. This initiative was launched by Pierre Bergé, who inherited the moral rights of the entire works of Jean Cocteau, and is supported by Cartier. Jean Cocteau, who was a great collector of objets d’art, created a 1950s style decor with the help of the famous interior designer Madeleine Castaing. The walls of his study, adorned with the reverse side of a panther fabric, symbolise extravagant fantasy and idiosyncratic refinement.

The Story Cartier’s involvement perpetuates the friendship that formed between the jeweller and the poet, who unreservedly adopted the Trinity ring following its creation in 1924. It was once again to Cartier that Cocteau turned for the provision of the diamonds that would form the tears on the face of the Beauty, played by Josette Day, in his film, La Belle et la Bête. Their relationship of trust culminated in 1955, when Jean Cocteau was accepted into the Académie Française and ordered his “immortals” sword from Cartier. Following a mutually creative conversation between the future Academician and the jeweller, the sword was designed by Cocteau himself and produced by the Cartier workshops.

The Trinity rings treasured links between a poet and a jeweller In harmony with Cocteau’s creative world, the Trinity Sauvage ring condenses the Cartier codes and reconstitutes them in a unique and powerful creation. Displaying a cross-bred fusion of styles, it unites two great Cartier icons for the very first time – the panther and the Trinity ring – and exhibits a confident blend of pink gold, diamonds and yellow gold dotted with splashes of black lacquer, in reference to the panther decor in Jean Cocteau’s study. Cartier has created another tribute to the inspired Ambassador of the Trinity ring, who admired it so much he even wore two on his little finger: the Trinity La Belle ring featuring six bands studded with a diamond star, a jeweller’s echo of the poet’s own famous signature.

Christopher Korey Private Realty

& Christopher Korey Collective

Christopher Korey Collective presents style for the modern gentleman with custom tailored menswear that goes beyond a suit and tie. A moment with... Christopher Korey You are many years in the real estate business, how was your beginning, did you always want to become a real estate agent? No, not at all. I sort of fell into it by originally wanting to go into interior design and not knowing how to break into the industry. I had the idea of getting my real estate license in hopes of getting the design job after a sale. Well, what happened to me is very unusual in the real estate business in that I sold a lot of apartments in my first year. As my client base crew so did the business and now it's 20 some odd years later and here I am.

‘‘Appreciate life, help people and laugh as much as you can‘‘

What inspired you to start Christopher Korey Collective and create tailor made suits? It was born out of a couple of things, but mostly the love of clothing, pieces and a process that I couldn't find in the industry today. I had been styling my real estate clients for many years and the demand just continued to grow. I also saw the custom clothing industry changing and not for the better. There was a lot of bad workmanship and people in the business who were only in it for the business, not for the craft, the tradition or the love of clothing. Then social media came along and the demand for the pieces I was wearing just sort of blew up. So my tailor, a longtime friend, and I decided to curate a place and a culture where the love of clothing, tradition and craft could still thrive. It's much less about the business and much more about the love.

How can you characterize your style? My style is pretty eclectic but I would say it is based on the look of old Hollywood but with a much more modern fit. The one thing I can say is that it's authentic, and at the end of the day that's really where style starts. What's been the biggest turning point in your career? Every point is a turning point. Every moment in your career leads you to the next moment. The biggest turning point in my career is the next one.

What are the key differences between your brand and other companies? Through many years of experimentation and experience we have developed a very unique take on the bespoke process. Messing around with patterns for over 40 years our inhouse tailors have developed a way to streamline the process but even more importantly develop a fit that is very unique in today's world of ill fitting garments. Clients who come into our atelier are always amazed how well our simple try on garments fit them. Then, when we actually create a garment for them, crafted to their own body, with colors that flatter them and in the style that is truly their own, they are astounded. Nothing makes us happier than that moment.

Who or what is your biggest inspiration? They are almost too numerous to mention. All my experiences and the amazing people along the way have inspired me so much. At the end of the day I would say I'm just inspired by life. What's one thing you've achieved that you're incredibly prouf of? That I helped someone.

What's the biggest lesson you've learnt in your career? Keep your sense of humor. What advice you can give to others out there trying to cultivate a successful business? Surround yourself with amazing people and stay authentic to who you are.

What about the sport of polo, how do you see it and have you been to some polo matches before? I have only ever been to two polo matches, both devote a sense of grandeur and elegance and grace that very few sports and body. Ralph Lauren captured this very early on in his career and he has always had issues influence on both myself and the industry. The regal nature of polo and the lifestyle that it projects certainly lends itself to beauty.
