Cover Story Anya Taylor-Joy

"I feel like I’ve been transported in time – back to the 1930s when the Reverso story began on the wrists of polo players.“

ANYA TAYLOR-JOY EMBARKS ON A TIMELESS JOURNEY In a specially produced video created to mark the North American debut of ‘Reverso Stories’ in Manhattan, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Global Ambassador, Anya Taylor-Joy, leads viewers on a journey of discovery through the exhibition. Her narrative is intertwined with views of the exhibition, which encapsulates nine decades of history and style since the birth of the Reverso in 1931. With her trademark poise, the actress invites us to unwrap the Reverso's rich heritage and discover the soul of this iconic timepiece: "I feel like I’ve been transported in time – back to the 1930s when the Reverso story began on the wrists of polo players," she says, as she begins her tour of discovery. The exhibition reveals how this timeless masterpiece of design fuses artistry and precision through high complications, enamelled creations and resplendent gem-set pieces. "The gem setting, the engraving, the painting on this tiny watch face, it’s artistry on a different level”, the actress observes. As a Global Ambassador of Jaeger-LeCoultre, Anya Taylor-Joy embodies the essence of the Reverso – timeless, elegant, and with a story to tell – and the timepiece that she wears in the short film, the Reverso One Duetto Jewellery, perfectly reflects her natural allure. Featuring a back-to-back dial concept in a new setting that is as rare as it is precious, 335 grain-set diamonds cover the entire case- back and wrap seamlessly around its curved sides to frame the dial.

Born in Miami when her British-Argentine parents were visiting the city in 1996, Anya Taylor-Joy was raised in Buenos Aires and London, speaking Spanish as her first language. Trained in ballet until the age of 15, she turned to acting and won rave reviews for her breakout performance in Robert Egger’s The Witch in 2015. A series of critically acclaimed roles followed, including Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho (in which she revealed a captivating singing voice). In 2020, the Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambit shot her star into the stratosphere; her mesmerising portrayal of chess prodigy Beth Harmon won a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors’ Guild award and a Critics’ Choice award. This was followed by a starring role in Robert Eggers’ The Northman. During 2022, Anya Taylor-Joy was seen in David O. Russell’s Amsterdam with Christian Bale and Margot Robbie, and Mark Mylod’s comedy-horror The Menu with Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult, winning a Golden Globe nomination for the latter. Anya Taylor-Joy recently completed filming the title role in Furiosa, the Mad Max prequel, which is due for release in May 2024.

More than 90 years after it was created, the Reverso's style and design retain their avant-garde appeal, capturing attention with the signature swivelling case. “You can have two or three or even four different watch faces that show this complex idea of time," notes the actress. Reflecting on her discovery of ‘Reverso Stories’, Anya Taylor-Joy concludes: "When you are walking around here, you really understand why Jaeger-LeCoultre is considered the Watchmaker of Watchmakers." The ‘Reverso Stories’ exhibition is an invitation to explore not only the union of horological mastery and artistic expression that the Reverso represents, but also the cultural context that has provided the backdrop to its evolution over the course of nine decades. Join us in New York as we unfold the chapters of time through the lens of our iconic Reverso.

Sevil Dolmaci Sevil Dolmaci Art Gallery hosts the first solo exhibition of the internationally recognized artist Daniel Knorr in Dubai The exhibition titled, “Surfaced”, which will be held in the Sevil Dolmaci Art Gallery in Dubai will include both iconic and engaging art works in which the artist experiments with different surfaces captured from different historic sites or objects. Knorr invites the viewer to experience the emergence of the surface, to look it through and recognize the character of its depthts. “Like a thought, an idea or just a gesture, the initial moment of a creation is the appearance of the surface. It is the first moment when we are meeting an another space, looking at something new, not yet discovered by oneself. The experience of doing a show is like a surfacing a variety of artistic works placed into private and public space. Being at the surface, in touch with the viewer, it´s an emotional moment,” - Daniel Knorr on his “Surfaced” exhibition. Born in Bucharest, Knorr lives in Berlin and Hong Kong. The artist, who represented Romania at the Venice Biennale in 2005 and participated in the 2017 Documenta, reached in 2019 large audiences with his car wash installation titled “Laundry” at Art Basel. Apart from the “Laundry” installation, the artist attracts attention with the castings he makes using the forms of street denivelations and his large site-specific installations using smoke, gemstones or stainless steel. Through these works, he also triggers discussions about the political and theoretical content. Knorr's texts, sculptures, graphic works and performances, which are closely interested in the concept of emptiness, symbolization and the world of imagination, have a controversial and metaphoric style in common. “Surfaced” exhibition will run until 26 January 2024. 3 BRUSSELS ART NOUVEAU & ART DECO FESTIVAL Brussels, Belgium March 9 – 24, 2024 The capital of Belgium and the EU, Brussels is also known as the Art Nouveau capital, boasting nearly 1,000 buildings designed in the ornately expressive style pioneered by Belgian architects such as Victor Horta, Paul Hankar, and Jules Brunfaut. A reaction to the more rigid, classically influenced architecture dominant in the mid- to late-1800s, Art Nouveau incorporated organic forms and motifs found in nature while embracing the technology and materials of the Industrial Age such as cast iron, glass, and ceramic tile. This unique architectural heritage is given its due every year during Brussels’ Art Nouveau & Art Deco festival (BANAD). Taking place over three consecutive weekends in March, the festival provides participants the opportunity to tour dozens of the metropolis’s Art Nouveau and Deco treasures, many of which are normally inaccessible to the public. Other special events on the schedule include bike and bus tours, film screenings, concerts, seminars, kidfriendly activities, and an antique and collectibles fair. COURTESY OF EXPLORE BRUSSELS

Overseas self-winding Clothed in gold and light A shining addition to the new Overseas 35mm assortment Tone-on-tone elegance Discovered this spring in a pink gold livery, matched with an emblematic sunburst blue dial. Like a new invitation to travel, the Overseas selfwinding watch reveals a new facet of its temperament. Its signature style? A harmonious tone-on-tone approach playing with the warm reflections of pink gold clothing its case and bracelet, matched by the radiant glow of its dial draped in transparent lacquer and adorned with a sunburst satinbrushed finish. Vacheron Constantin's artisans devoted a great deal of effort to producing the exact dial nuance, in perfect harmony with the caseband and bracelet. This monochrome look, accentuated by the brilliance of the 90 diamonds finely set on the six-sided bezel evoking the Maltese cross, traces a slim cuff-watch design on the wrist. A jewel-like watch featuring a slender, dainty silhouette that is the perfect companion at all times. Calibre 1088/1, reliability is its middle name To mark off the hours, minutes and seconds, the Overseas self-winding model opts for a movement boasting exemplary reliability, Calibre 1088/1. This high-precision beating heart comprises 144 components and operates at a frequency of 4 Hz. For even greater timekeeping precision, this movement is equipped with a stop-second mechanism enabling accurate adjustment of time functions.

The movement is also endowed with a 40-hour power reserve. Every detail of the decoration on the open caseback has been meticulously crafted. The rear bridges are adorned with Côtes de Genève, while the collection’s emblematic rotor is sculpted in gold and graced with a compass rose, staging a perpetually changing show evoking travel and exploration.

Interview with Christian Selmoni Christian Selmoni, Director of Style and Heritage at Vacheron Constantin. Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest watch Manufacture in continuous production for nearly 270 years, faithfully perpetuating a proud heritage of watchmaking excellence and stylistic sophistication through generations of master craftsmen. At the pinnacle of Haute Horlogerie and understated elegance, the Maison creates timepieces with unique technical and aesthetic signatures, and an extremely high level of finishing touches.

What role does pink gold play in the history of Vacheron Constantin? Pink gold has been used in Vacheron Constantin creations for over a century, its use notably dating back to the 1910s and 20s. Thereafter, the Manufacture mainly used it to create cases for complicated watches. Our archives contain some fine examples of minute repeaters and chronographs. This continued until the 1960s, which saw the almost exclusive return of yellow and white gold watches. When did pink gold make a comeback? Our Asian clientele helped bring pink gold back into our designs in the early 1990s. Since then, it has become the preferred choice, to the detriment of yellow and of white gold – which nonetheless remains the benchmark white precious metal along with platinum.

With its golden dial, this new Overseas evokes the watches of the 1950s and 60s. What did you seek to express in terms of design? We indeed wanted to offer a shade that would be different from the classic silver tone that usually goes with this type of pink gold watch fitted with a bracelet in the same metal. And yes, we were inspired by the pink gold/ combination found in many of the Maison's creations since the 1940s.

Is the use of a precious metal like pink gold compatible with the sporty-chic spirit of the Overseas collection? Absolutely! The Overseas meets all the requirements of our Maison, which holds a rightful place in the world of Haute Horlogerie. Within this context, it's only natural that our sporty-chic watches are available in steel as well as precious metals, sometimes even set with diamonds, as on the new Overseas self-winding model.

Zahrah Al Ghamdi's "The Cell" Takes Center Stage at Art Jameel's Façade Commission 2023"

Art Jameel, an organisation that supports artists and creative communities, announces the launch of the 2023 iteration of the Hayy Jameel Façade Commission, awarded to contemporary artist and Professor of Visual Art and Design and Faculty Member at the University of Jeddah Zahra AlGhamdi. The major annual programme gives Saudi artists the opportunity to develop a major public work for the 25-metre “canvas” on the front of the building – a feature integral to the architectural intent of Hayy Jameel, designed by multi-award-winning architectural studio waiwai. The 2023 commission, selected via an Open Call which received more than 50 proposals and a rigorous jury process, was awarded to AlGhamdi based on the ingenuity of her proposal titled The Cell, characterised by her signature use of materials and the unique way in which her work responds to the site. The Hayy Jameel Façade Commission is supported by Abdul Latif Jameel Motors - Lexus KSA, and part of the brand’s global – and now local, in Saudi Arabia – support for design and the arts. On the selection process, Deputy Director and Head of Exhibitions at Art Jameel Nora Razian, said: “This annual public art commission is a celebration of the vibrant tapestry of Jeddah's landscape wherein the Façade becomes the meeting point between the creative complex and the wider city. The esteemed jury – which includes local and international artists and curators selected Dr. Zahra’s proposal for her ingenuity and the thoughtful integration of locally sourced materials, tied to universal ideas and histories. This commission aims at fostering ideas rooted in the unique context of Saudi and connecting this to a broad public, bringing ambitious art into everyday life.”

Dr Zahra AlGhamdi

The Cell is composed of fabric pieces in a variety of hues and textures, meticulously crafted and blended with clay. Clay is a primal material, bound up in creation stories and used for millennia by humans to construct dwellings and quotidian objects. AlGhamdi draws on this long history and mythology to create a sculptural work that speaks to the common origins and the shared histories of humanity across time. The 2023 Hayy Jameel Facade Commission jury included Saudi artist and representative of Saudi Arabia at the 60th International Venice Biennale Manal AlDowayan; Deputy Director and Head of Exhibitions at Art Jameel Nora Razian; Curator (International Art) at London’s Tate Modern Nabila Abdel Nabi; and long-time Chair of Modern and Contemporary Arts at the Met Museum, New York, Sheena Wagstaff. The jury also opted to award a Jury Special Mention to two of the shortlisted proposals in recognition of their originality and bold vision. Congratulations go to: Basmah Felemban, Abeer Sultan and Mubarak Mahdi for their proposal Children of the Sea; and Sarah Al Abdali for her proposal Manifesting Eve. The Hayy Jameel Façade Commission is an annual programme that echoes Art Jameel’s mandate to support and present critical work by local artists. Guided by an annual thematic, the Façade Commission intends to deepen dialogue with Hayy Arts’ programming, framed primarily by Art Jameel’s threads of enquiry and networks of artistic and historical movement.

"The Cell" Takes Center Stage at Art Jameel's Façade Commission 2023

About Hayy Jameel

Hayy Jameel is developed and managed by Art Jameel as Saudi Arabia's dedicated arts complex and creative hub. Hayy Jameel joins Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai – which opened in 2018 – in its efforts to build culture-oriented, connected communities. Designed by waiwai, Hayy references the Arabic word for neighbourhood, denoting the convivial and collaborative nature of the complex and its intent on bringing together a wide range of creative disciplines in one destination. Alongside the museum Hayy Arts, education platforms Hayy Learning and Hayy Studios is Hayy Cinema, Saudi’s first independent audiovisual centre, designed by Jeddah-based architects Bricklab – and now Hayy Explorers, a forthcoming ‘drop-in’ children’s zone, featuring a year-long dynamic programme. Fenaa Hayy, a multi-purpose space for performances, workshops and talks opens onto Saha, a central community courtyard underpinned by philosophies of sustainability and adaptability. The Art Jameel-run not-for-profit spaces are joined by Hayy Residents – a set of pioneering, homegrown creative enterprises that range from contemporary art and performance to design and publishing, culinary institutes, new cafes and eateries. The launch of Hayy Jameel in 2021 marked 75 years of Jameel family global philanthropies and is in line with Vision 2030, coming to fruition with a new era for the arts and creative sector across the Kingdom.

“Inspired by the polo matches and horses. Our goal was to capture the spirit of the polo ponies. Scarlett Stilling

Sport of Kings, King of Sports Polo is a game with a rich cultural history. Originating in Persia over 2,000 years ago, it is one of the oldest team sports in recorded history. In the beginning, polo was a training game for cavalry units. To these warlike tribesmen, who played it with as many as 100 to a side, it was a miniature battle. The Moguls were then responsible for taking the game from Persia tot he East, where it became known as “the sport of kings“. Polo is taken from the word ’pholo’ meaning ’ball’ or ’ballgame’ in the Balti language of Tibet. By the 16th century polo was well established in India in Mainpur, the English Army Officers discovered the game. They went on to found the world’s first polo club. Today, more than 77 countries across the world play polo. It was an Olympic sport from 1900-1939. Polo continues to represent the pinnacle of sport. This is a feeling epitomised by the famous verse inscribed on a stone tablet next to a polo ground in Gilgit, Pakistan:

Prisca METAL TAKES A NEW TURN Prisca Razafindrakoto, or simply Prisca, has succeeded in challenging many preconceptions about metal, which is often seen as cold, stiff and lacklustre. In her hands, thanks to her creativity and dexterity, the material becomes delicate, colourful, soft to the touch and as light as a leaf. This transformative approach has captivated Florence Guillier Bernard who, since 2022, has been exhibiting the artist’s furniture regularly at the maison parisienne’s exhibitions in Paris, London and Brussels.

A MIX OF INSPIRATIONS Of Franco-Malagasy origin, Prisca is also inspired by the fusion of cultures and a vast world of sensations created by her travels in Africa and her learning of tribal arts. Abolishing the boundaries of time and space, the craftswoman is interested in the Arts Deco movement and the Bauhaus, where she admires Marianne Brandt’s sleek metal pieces for their elegant, feminine lines. Prisca’s multi-faceted approach to art also reflects the diversity of her artistic practices. Halfway between sculpture and design, she plays with the semantic limits of the object. Illustration, 3D software, manual work in the studio, firing temperatures and times - Prisca never tires of experimenting to enrich her formal vocabulary and colour palette.

A RECOGNISED UNIQUENESS In 2022, her 510-Cu chair, designed for the first “Les Aliénés” exhibition, became part of the permanent collections of the Mobilier National. That same year, Prisca began her collaboration with maison parisienne by exhibiting at PAD London. Gallery founder Florence Guillier Bernard has commissioned three of her school chairs for the Promenade du Collectionneur at the Hôtel Solvay in Brussels in early 2023. United under the name Trio Solvay, these works echo the colours of the decor of the famous Art Nouveau building. The artist’s work is on show at Espace Commines as part of Paris Design Week 2023, and at the Banque de France in Paris (Hôtel de Toulouse) during the Heritage Days in September.

The World’s Most Expensive Superyacht Mattress SUPERYACHT owners across all continents are eager to get their hands on the world’s most expensive mattress, The Auguste.

“Infusing luxury and innovation, premium textiles are sourced from Europe and France to craft mattresses that elevate sleep to an art form.

Christophe Cotte, an artisan and master craftsman at CC Design, has revolutionised the luxury mattress industry by creating the new $175,000 (€159,000) mattress.

“The materials, chosen for both comfort and aesthetic appeal, are skilfully woven into the mattress fabric, seamlessly blending support and elegance.”

It surpasses leading competitors and requires 39 skilled artisans, including master upholsterers with decades of experience, to follow 100 steps over 300 hours.

The masterpiece is diligently sewn, stuffed, and quilted by hand, taking an enormous amount of time and expertise to create a French-style sleep experience.

Christophe, who has served his apprenticeship in one of France's best schools in the art of upholstery, describes The Auguste as “the world’s most luxurious bed.”

It has a thickness of 80cm making it one of the thickest mattresses in the world and offers a 25-year guarantee.

He says the mattress is in massive demand with many rich and famous celebrity clients already choosing to have one onboard their superyachts. Christophe said: “When yacht enthusiasts have paid over $250 million for a superyacht, it is understandable they would want to get the very best night’s sleep. “The Auguste features the finest Pierre Frey materials, to redefine the concept of sleep within the world of mattresses.

The mattress features a unique sprung base and combines layers of premium natural materials such as wool, horsehair, and Air Spring® pocket springs for optimal support. Noble materials like Arles merino wool, royal alpaca, and silk are also used in the support mattress and mattress topper for comfort and body temperature regulation.

CC Design is run by Christophe Cotte

For a personal touch, owners can have their initials embroidered on the sides, creating a bespoke piece for their superyacht. The Auguste mattress is designed to be extremely long-lasting, and components can be renewed through CC Design and other authorised dealers. CC Design is based in Antibes, France, and has been specialising in luxurious interior products such as bedding, slippers and bespoke hangers for luxury yachts and homes for 19-years. The manufacturer has received the Entreprise Patrimoine Vivant label, recognising its excellence in industrial and craft skills. CC Design also produce, what they believe to be the world’s most expensive & luxurious duvet.

Pierre Frey's renowned materials now redefine the concept of sleep within the world of mattresses. Infusing luxury and innovation, premium textiles are sourced to craft mattresses that elevate sleep to an art form.

A combination of heartfelt hospitality, one-of-akind design, exceptional culinary creativity and unparalleled views of the surrounding jungle and sparkling bay guarantees that your wellness journey is about to get an instant upgrade. Located in the heart of Son Tra Nature Reserve, one of Vietnam’s last remaining coastal rainforests, this five-star property is a sanctuary for biodiversity, sustainability and transcended escapism. With nature on its doorstep, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort affords its guests direct access to indigenous wildlife, numerous hiking trails and a pristine 700-meter stretch of white sand beach. Set amongst meditative scenery, slightly away from the main facilities, the visually arresting Mi Sol Spa is a getaway within a getaway. Spanning a string of eight private treatment rooms fashioned after quonset huts, this recently renovated spa complex takes its name from the tones of a music scale. Since sound is a form of energy, each tone – do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, and ti – emits a specific vibration frequency. For example, Mi is associated with the solar plexus chakra and has a frequency of 528 Hz, activating spiritual enlightenment and improving creativity, while Sol is linked to the throat chakra and has a frequency of 741Hz, promoting purification of both the mind and body.

Conceptualized by global wellness consultancy Raison D’etre, the new line up of intention-driven therapies draws inspiration from frequencies created by various tuning forks. Further enhanced with ancient healing techniques, this science-based approach delivers multi sensory experiences which bring about real transformative change. A dedicated team of wellness professionals rolls out a welcome mat to those who wish to tap into the magnificent world of sounds, vibrations and tones. Choose from a series of signature Mi Sol treatments ranging from massages, facials and scrubs to frequency yoga, sleep support and more. Put your best foot forward with a visit to The Manicure & Pedicure Studio, located next to the family pool. A brief yet carefully curated menu offers pampering rituals for the hands and feet complemented with relaxing, tension-relieving massages. Maximize the value of your holiday by learning new selfcare techniques, tried and tested by the resident wellness team. Paving the way for sustained healing, complimentary 30-minute workshops are held daily at the spa reception or nail studio. In terms of accommodation, expect everything and more. Furnished with a blend of modern sophistication and local charm, elegant sea view suites, lavish penthouses and multi-bedroom villas pull off a neat trick of catering equally well to honeymooners, solo travelers, families and groups of friends. Designed exclusively for those seeking a holistic wellbeing retreat immersed in nature, the 260-square-meter Spa Lagoon Villa combines an exceptional standard of accommodation with integrated spa facilities featuring a stylish bedroom, spacious living room, customized bathtub cocoon, private treatment room with spa beds, outdoor jacuzzi and two expansive relaxation decks set upon a natural lagoon.

The newly launched Four-Bedroom Pool Villas, designed to comfortably host up to 12 guests, make an ideal hideout for extended families and groups of friends who appreciate the very finest that life has to offer. Juxtaposed against a majestic sea panorama, these exquisite residences, spanning 705 square meters of indoor and outdoor living space, set a new benchmark for Vietnam’s luxury hospitality. Inspired by the lush nature of the Son Tra Peninsula, each accommodation comes with four separate guest quarters, two shared communitystyle terraces, three infinity swimming pools and a range of exclusive benefits, including access to the resort’s brand new Club Intercontinental Lounge. If you can bear to leave your tranquil villa, head to the beachfront Yoga Pavilion surrounded by swaying palms. Inhale the salty air and feel the sea breeze as the in-house yoga instructor leads you through a series of gentle postures, followed by the guided sessions on breath work and meditation. Catering to beginners as much as the bona fide yogi, each class creates room for selfdiscovery and introspection suggesting personalized adjustments that will add depth to your wellness journey. Discover the transformative power of Frequency Yoga, a unique blend of asanas, aromatherapy and vibrations created by the tuning forks. This one-on-one signature experience, available at Mi Sol Spa, is an excellent way to extend your practice beyond the resort’s daily schedule. Open 24/7, the swanky Soar Gym, complete with the open-air Outrace system, is worth reserving some space in your suitcase for trainers and workout clothes. Reflecting the resort’s overall appreciation of an active – and fun – lifestyle, the gym is fitted out with top-of-the-range cardio and strength-training equipment from Technogym’s elite fitness lines, Artis and Skill. Decompress your mind with personalized HIIT and kickboxing classes led by a local champion kickboxer. Based on rapid stop-and-go movements, these action-packed fitness sessions will leave you feeling ready for anything. Looking for something more gentle? In the fitness world, tai chi is more of a tortoise than a hare but just like in the fable, its slow and purposeful moves can actually help you go the distance. Meditation in motion, an hour-long class combines controlled, choreographed postures with a side of spirituality. This ancient form of martial arts, originated in China, helps to lower blood pressure, boost the immune system and improve flexibility. If you prefer to focus on your workout routine in a more private setting, a portable Technogym bag, featuring a smart range of exercise tools and an extensive library of training videos, can be delivered directly to your villa at no extra charge. Further afield, there is a myriad of fitness options! Explore the resort’s sport center, which boasts two tennis courts and a football pitch, do laps at the 50meter rooftop swimming pool or head down to the beach to make the most of the non-motorized watersports equipment. Everything is complimentary! Whether you are looking to learn a new skill, take your fitness to another level or get in touch with your spiritual side, the resort’s dedicated team of wellness experts will ensure that every day spent at Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is an opportunity to recharge, evolve and transform.

Cornwall

Five-star Cornish hotel, The Headland A luxury five-star hotel in Cornwall has been shortlisted for a major award that recognises the top independent hotels in the country. The Headland Hotel and Spa is one of the final eight hotels competing to be crowned Independent Hotel of The Year. The industry-leading awards take place at Olympia London in October with the voting now open to the public. Hotel Director, Veryan Palmer, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been included in such a strong shortlist with some utterly brilliant hotels. We would love to win this award, I think it would serve as the ultimate reward for our unique approach to the hospitality industry and the service that our wonderful team gives our guests.”

It is understood that over 100 hotels applied for the prestigious award, the applicants were then whittled down to a short list for a panel of industry expert judges to consider, before the final eight were for the final. In recent years, The Headland’s approach to employment has been highlighted and celebrated by many including the BBC2 documentary ‘Simon Reeve’s Return to Cornwall’, in which it was shown as a shining example of good employment practice in the area. The Headland champions the ability of the hospitality industry to be an inclusive employer, with over twelve people with additional needs participating in extended work experiences.

There has also been an investment in the development of young people through partnerships with local schools and colleges and the ongoing ‘paid summer placement for young people’ series which sees ten 14–15-year-olds completing a summer learning about all the differing roles at the hotel. Along with their commitment to the next generation, the hotel has also pledged to continue supporting local communities and charities. Each week, the iconic hotel provides DISC Newquay with its weekly delivery of fruit and has distributed over £30,000 in grants via the Cornwall Community Foundation. The hotel also supports Newquay Food Bank when they are in need of particular food or items to support their efforts. The team is also being ambitious with its redevelopment plans and recent investment has seen the construction of The Aqua Club in 2020, with the project regularly recognised among the leading spa/swimming facilities in the country. Earlier this year, the hotel also launched the stunning new Restaurant RenMor after a major refurbishment took place in the spring, offering guests and locals a taste of beautiful Cornish food with the stunning sunset views. The Independent Hotel of the Year award acknowledges hotels that embody independent spirit, excellence, and innovation in creating exceptional guest experiences whilst pushing the boundaries expected of an independent hotel. The award criteria also state that “the winner is an outstanding hotel that is committed to the development of their team, the success of their establishment, and the betterment of the industry as a whole”.

ROLLS-ROYCE BUILDS ON FOUNDATION OF ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE: TWO NEW SENIOR LEADERS TO JOIN THE COMPANY

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has today announced two changes to its senior leadership team. Hans Wolf will retire from his role of Director of Manufacturing, concluding a remarkable 46 year career with BMW Group. Director of Engineering, Dr Mihiar Ayoubi, has been promoted to a Senior Vice President role within BMW Group after six years at the Home of Rolls-Royce.

“In their respective time at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, both Hans and

Mihiar have had a substantial impact on our business. As our Director of Engineering, Mihiar has driven pivotal advances in our powertrain, suspension and software technologies, harmonising physical engineering practices with advanced digital systems. He developed solutions to the increasingly complex challenges presented by Bespoke and Coachbuild commissions and oversaw the development of Spectre – a towering technical achievement that spearheads a bold electric future for Rolls-Royce. As the marque’s Director of Manufacturing, Hans led Rolls-Royce manufacturing through landmark launches including Ghost and Cullinan, the marque’s most highly sought-after models. With the introduction of Spectre, Hans embraced and mastered the challenge of manufacturing the first-ever all electric Rolls-Royce. Both Hans and Mihiar will be greatly missed by all at Goodwood and the global Rolls-Royce team, but I know that their carefully chosen successors will bring their own immense wealth of expertise to these crucial and prestigious senior leadership roles, as the marque embarks on the next chapter of its storied history.” Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars During his six years at Rolls-Royce, Dr Mihiar Ayoubi led the engineering teams responsible for Ghost, Cullinan and Spectre; he also oversaw the specialist teams developing complex, innovative and highly Bespoke technologies for the Boat Tail and Droptail Coachbuild projects. Under Mihiar’s leadership, the engineering department at RollsRoyce Motor Cars laid the foundations for the marque’s all-electric future, developing the drivetrain, battery, chassis and ‘Decentralised Intelligence’ control systems for Spectre. Engineering has also reasserted its central importance in delivering future Coachbuild commissions through the ground-breaking technical work undertaken on both Boat Tail and Droptail.

Dr Mihiar Ayoubi

At BMW Group, Mihiar headed departments in acoustics and vibration, dynamics development, chassis control systems, drivetrain development, all-wheel drive and driver assistance systems, before taking on the senior role of Head of Concepts, Architectures and Integration. He was promoted to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in 2018, having already been involved with the engineering concept for Phantom 8.

With Mihiar’s promotion, overall responsibility for continuing that vital and prestigious work now passes to Dr Bernhard Dressler, who is currently Head of Product Concept at BMW Group. Bernhard is already well-known to many at Rolls-Royce, as he previously led the project team for Ghost. Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience of the marque’s culture and business model to his new position, Bernhard is ideally placed to build on the firm foundations laid by his predecessor.

Mihiar’s promotion, to Senior Vice President Driving Experience for BMW Group, is the latest step in a distinguished engineering career with the company that began in 1997, after gaining a Degree and Doctorate in Control Systems Engineering and Applied Artificial Intelligence from the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany.

$45 Million for Aspen Home Bob Bridger was Apple’s Vice President of real estate, design and construction for 13 years. He helped design the tech giant’s glassy, expansive stores. When Bob Bridger built a home in Aspen, after leaving Apple in 2015, he brought some of that sensibility to the contemporary estate, which has floor-to-ceiling windows and a ’’CLUBHOUSE’’ building with a glass garage door. Through his relationships with vendors from his time at Apple, Bob connected with the owners of a quarry in Marble and was able to handpick the stone in the house. After several years of construction, the property was completed in 2022. Bob Bridger is now putting it on the market for $45 million. Located about 3.5 miles from downtown Aspen, the gated compound spans about 2.9 acres, said listing agent Carrie Wells of Coldwell Banker Mason Morse Real Estate. Along with the roughly 4,200 square foot residence and a clubhouse, wich houses a game room, gym and office, there is a 19th-century cabin on the property that served as a pit stop for horse-drawn carriages and their drivers coming from Denver. Bob Bridger said after leaving Silicon Valley, he planned to stay in Aspen for a year but fell in love with the property, which abuts national forest land along the Roaring Fork River and has views of Independence Pass. He paid $10.5 million for the site in 2015, and tore down an existing stone house and guest cabin to make room for the new structures. ’’There are homes that are bigger, with more land, but the way this sits is like none other,’’ he said. Bob Bridger said he worked with Turkey Design on the home, with input from Julia Pirrung, his partner, and his sons. The main residence has four bedrooms, including a primary suite with glass doors opening to the pool area. ’’The vision was to create a home that blended into nature, so that when you were in it you couldn’t tell whether you were inside or outside,’’ he said. They also designed the house with energy efficiencies, such as triple-pane windows and 78 solar panels.
