Thai Polo Club Argentina’s 2021 season opened with The VIII Thai Polo Cup Argentina and The II Pink Polo Cup, which were played alongside each other. The II Pink Polo Cup returned this year with eight teams, up to 22 goals, competing with an international line-up of players involved. Marengo were defending champions, having lifted the Cup in 2019 (the tournament was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic), but Torrijos/Sabandija pulled out all of the stops in the Final, building upon their initial 1½ handicap advantage with early goals from Andrea Quintero Ospina to increase their lead in the early stages of the Final. The offensive efforts of Marengo were more than matched by the strong combination of the Fernández Araujo sisters and despite a last-minute goal from Marengo’s Azucena Uranga it was not enough and Torrijos/ Sabandija ran out the winners by just half a goal, 8-8½. Candelaria Fernández Araujo received the Most Valuable Player award, Sonia Couling took home the Fair Play Award, the Best Playing Pony was Geisha, played by Candelaria Fernández Araujo and the Argentine Association of Horse Breeders’ Best Playing Pony of the Final was Malapata Any, played by Lía Salvo.
