2021 NTYS Girls’ Championship winners, Girls Purple 2021 National Youth Tournament Series Championship winners, Eastern
Sunday 12 September saw the 2021 National Youth Tournament Series (NYTS) Championship Final hosted by Oak Brook Polo Club. Eastern Region (Sophie Grant, Aiden Meeker, Winston Painter & Landen Eckbo Daniels) appeared to have a plan in place going into the Final against Wild Card (Daniel Miranda, Josh Escapite, Vlad Tarashansky, Taylor Palacios), with Eastern’s close communication helping them to stay just out of reach of Wild Card’s advances and secured them The Cecil Smith Cup, 8-6. Soda, a seven year-old mare owned by Mariano Obregon and played by Winston Painter, was chosen as the Best Playing Pony, Painter also received the Horsemanship Award and Western Region’s Quinn Kyle received the Sportsmanship Award.
The same weekend also saw the top US female youth players compete for the 2021 National Youth Tournament Series (NYTS) Girls’ Championship. Capturing decisive victories in their respective Semi Finals, Girls Pink (Kelsey Bray, Grace Fleishmann, Reagan Leitner & Madison Jordan) met Girls Purple (Saralyn Painter, Elise Pardue, Caroline Mathews & Summer Kneece) in the Final. Going into the last chukka, Girls Purple were ahead by just half a goal, but soon managed to pull ahead and score two more goals to secure the victory. Summer Kneece was awarded Most Valuable Player and Sagebrush, an eight-year-old mare owned and played by Reagan Leitner, was chosen as the Best Playing Pony.
