This faculty meets the expectations of all enthusiasts of Japanese culture, pop culture and language. In addition to general cultural studies, the curriculum includes subjects devoted to the culture and art of the Far East, an extensive Japanese language course and Korean language classes.
Students learn about the latest trends and phenomena in the cultural and social life of contemporary Japan, including those related to film, comics, anime, manga, computer games and other media. In class, Japanese customs, games and activities are intertwined with the art of calligraphy and ikebana. As part of joint outings to traditional tea houses, students also learn about the tea ceremony. Japanese electronic dictionaries, original costumes: yukata, obi belts, geta slippers, furoshiki cloths as well as soroban counting trays and many other accessories are used in class. Students also use Japanese computer software and a Japanese word processor. Japanese language classes are divided into grammar, writing, conversation and practice. Full-time students can take the Nihongo-Noryoku-Shiken state Japanese proficiency exam at N3 and even N2 level. Part-time students usually achieve a basic level of Japanese language proficiency. Our students participate in and co-organise many events promoting and presenting Japanese art, culture and knowledge of Japan, which are always very popular with visitors.
