PONSSE Active care: Maintenance agreement keeps machines up and running

With maintenance agreements, the customer can focus on their key business and ensure that their machines remain productive and effective. The guarantee and coverage of maintenance and repairs are key factors for the customer company. AS PATA Strenči operates in demanding conditions in Latvia with 13 PONSSE machines.

The development of Latvia-based AS PATA Strenči is driven by appropriately and thoroughly planned silviculture, producing long-term value for owners.

“Harvesting is only one part of silviculture. We are a trusted partner for our customers in all phases of silviculture and forest development,” says Leonards Grīgs, director of the technical department of the company, which was established as long ago as 1947.

Conditions are challenging at AS PATA Strenči’s logging sites in the Vidzeme region in eastern and north-eastern Latvia. The ground is soft, even boggy, but level. To keep machines up and running in these demanding conditions, AS PATA Strenči selected maintenance agreements.

“We have maintenance agreements for all our machines with SIA Baltic Agro Machinery, Ponsse’s dealer in Latvia. This means that our machines are maintained and repaired by an authorised dealer,” Grīgs says.

“In Ponsse’s customer base, AS PATA Strenči is part of the rapidly growing group of maintenance agreement customers. The number of maintenance agreements has increased significantly, especially during the past two years,” says Eveliina Pölkki, product group manager at Ponsse.

“Companies of all sizes in different market areas have realised that it is better to focus on effective and productive harvesting and let Ponsse take care of machine maintenance,” Pölkki says.

PONSSE Active Care maintenance agreements are available for new and used machines. Active Care+ provides extended care for new machines, and it is available for main components up to 6,000 hours. AS PATA Strenči’s two newest machines – PONSSE Ergo and PONSSE Buffalo – are covered by Active Care+.

“We recently had our first extended care case. The contractual service supported and helped us immediately, and the faults in our Buffalo’s differential gear and brake system were repaired quickly. The machine was delivered for maintenance on Monday morning, and it was returned to us at noon on Tuesday,” Grīgs says. Engaged in cooperation with Ponsse since 2015, the company will replace two of its oldest PONSSE machines with new ones later this year. The company’s positive experiences of the service ensure that it will also acquire Active Care+ for its new workhorses.

“We appreciate that extended care has such a large coverage, including the engine, transmission, hydraulic pumps and motors, to name but a few. Of course, brief stoppages are required, but it is important that repairs are included in the agreement, and everything has gone as promised. Now our investments in Active Care agreements are starting to repay themselves.”

Eveliina Pölkki says that when forest machine contractors give their machines to Ponsse’s large and trained service network for maintenance, the machines’ resale value is also higher.

“If two similar machines are placed sideby-side, the buyer will certainly select the one maintained by Ponsse, as its maintenance history has been accurately recorded.”
