Following a period of eighteen months without live productions in our studio and theatre, I’m excited to share with you that our doors are open once more! With the cinema being open for some time now, the success of Gwyl Goncrit over the summer and the online projects that we have created, we’re now excited to build on these successes with live events over the coming months. The Coronavirus is still present in our communities, and we have been working hard to ensure that our arts centre is as safe as possible for your return! Over the past months, we hope the variety in our projects bringing together various arts have entertained, but now, it’s time for us to open our doors and bring productions to life on stage once more. The past eighteen months has allowed us to

think outside the box, and I’m confident that the digital and outside live events will continue to go hand-in-hand with our core artistic, indoor, programme. I’m looking forward to welcoming back our national companies to Pontio such as Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, National Theatre Wales and Ballet Cymru, but also, for our community showcases, that gives local talent a stage, with the performing school Showzone.

Our BLAS participatory programme returns, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people of all ages back to Pontio, with an exciting programme to be announced in the coming months. An exciting period awaits us for the arts in Wales and beyond, following a challenging time for the arts, we have an important and interesting journey ahead of us in this next chapter, and I hope you can join us!

This academic year, Bangor University will be celebrating a century of music – so be ready for the music-filled year that awaits us!

Upcoming Hybrid by Osian Efnisien Location: White Wall Date: October – November 2021 Pontio is pleased to commission the artist Osian Efnisien from Porthmadog to create new work in the main atrium’s White Wall. The installation will playfully weave the digital with physical materials to explore new ways of combining

virtual experiences, which have occupied most of us during the lockdown period, with concrete, architectural spaces. It will create a creative, colorful buzz in our public spaces to welcome you back into the building.

Eye of the Moon by Jo Lawrence Location: White Wall Date: December 2021 – January 2022 Eye of the Moon is an installation by artist Jo Lawrence in collaboration with the School of Music and Media, Bangor University. Based on Caradog Pritchard’s novel Un Nos Ola Leuad, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, the installation in Pontio’s main atrium will

feature projections and a new composition by postgraduate student Tomasz Edwards. There will be a live performance of the piece in the public spaces in early December, to coincide with the School of Music’s centenary celebrations. Supported by Colwinston Trust.

White Wall Wal Wen (White Wall) is a curated platform enabling large-scale projection of video, photography, animation and moving image onto the vast white walls of Pontio’s public spaces, providing audiences with experiences that provoke, inspire and entertain.

Book Club As a way to encourage more people to read during lockdown, and to support local book stores, we worked with Palas Print to host a series of Book Clubs. At the beginning of each month we would invite an author to interview another author about their works, writing and one specific work in particular. At the end of each month, led by the host author, the book club would discuss the guest author’s work. All held over Zoom, bringing authors from all over Wales to join us.
