Poppy woke Fred up very
excited to tell him something.
“Fred, I had the most wonderful dream, I must tell you all about it... !” Fred wondered if the dream was about bones or biscuits, but of course it wasn’t.
I
“ dreamt we had a party” said Poppy. “I dreamt we had the most amazing cake... there was music... there were people dancing... It was so fantastic Fred, I think we should have a party !”
Fred liked the idea of anything
that involved cake, so of course he liked the idea of having a party.
“First we need to invite the guests. Then organise the cake... Aghhhh yes ! Then lets have a dancing competition... and a big band ... I want it all to be just perfect.
Fred started on the invitations and the organising began.
“We will have a party to remember ! said Poppy The time went quickly and it wasn’t long until the date of the party arrived.
The guests started to arrive, the cake looked magical and the band began to play, everything was just as Poppy had hoped.
Soon it was time for the dancing competition, the drums were rolling and the dancers were getting ready but Poppy had lost Fred. Where could he be ? Wondered Poppy.
Fred was under the table, he had found a cat, the cat did not like Fred and Fred did not much like the cat.
Poppy found him just in time. “Fred, the competition is about to start and you’re on the judging panel. Come on !” Reluctantly Fred left the cat and came to take his place.
The band played...
The dancers swayed... The singers sang... The judges gave scores on the number of swirls the dancers did. The last couple took their positions. Fred spotted that cat. It was licking the delicious icing off the cake! Well Fred couldn’t just sit there! Could he ?

Fred jumped over the judging
panel, straight across the dance floor. The cat ran straight down the middle of the table sending everything flying.
Fred chased after the cat. Through the legs of the crowd and towards the stage. “Oh no ! Poppy gasped, this was not the plan !
The cat was smaller than Fred
and could fit through tiny spaces. The guests were flying in all directions as Fred accidently tripped them up. The cat jumped onto the stage, straight through the musicians playing. The cat made it through but Fred did not.
Disaster struck ! The band went flying, the singers screamed. Then the curtain fell down landing on the heads of the judging panel. Poppy peeked out from under the curtain.
There was silence. The cat was
nowhere to be seen, just Fred guarding the cake.
“My party is ruined” said Poppy. “This is not what I had planned at all !” Just as Poppy thought everyone would leave, they actually stood up to applaud !
Perhaps it is not such a disaster after, all thought Poppy
Fred served out the cake and got lots of attention, after all he had tried to do the right thing. Everyone took to the dance floor and the judges decided everyone was a winner !
Everyone thanked Poppy for the
most marvellous time, Fred for making the party come alive and, of course, for looking after the cake so well. What a palava ! Thought Poppy. Even palavas can work out for the best.
The End
Oh what a Palava !
During the last year we have been through a bit of a palava ourselves. You would never believe this, but our name has now been challenged twice, first Poppy, then our company name was Bryony, now we are Palava ! Just as Poppy in this story says, sometimes a bit of a palaver is not such a bad thing. What we do is truly unique and we like to keep it this way, with a whole future of stories infront of us.
