Teen Horror The film Carrie 2013 conveys the codes and conventions of a horror as it includes both protagonists and antagonists. It fits the purpose of a horror as it tears people apart from apart from each other and it creates tension and fear for the audience when Carrie begins to kill people.

The film Orphan also conveys the codes and conventions of a horror as it includes a girl who isn't quiet right in the head and tortures the family.


Psychological Horror •

The Shining is a great example of a psychological horror. The Shining meets the codes and conventions of a horror film because it includes a young, innocent boy who gets his mind tortured and gets torn away from his family. It’s a film with lots of tension and suspense.


Social Science Fiction horror

A great example of this subgenre is the film The Purge. The Purge meets the codes and conventions of a horror as it includes many violent, scary killings as for a certain amount of time crime is legal, with this storyline it creates more fear over gruesome killings.


Gothic fiction horror •

An example of a film that fits into this subgenre is Frankenstein who gets created into a monster who then starts going around killing people and creating danger.

Another good example is the film Dracula which also fits the codes and conventions of a horror as it is far from normal and includes supernatural characters which scare the audience. These supernatural characters in the film try to banish all humans by killing them.
