AUTOMOTIVE Big cars, little cars, HGVs, high & heavy – when it comes to vehicles, the Port of Tyne is steering in all the right directions. We are the UK’s second largest car export hub … but cars are just the start. On wheels? We’ll handle it! We load, unload and store more than 600,000 cars a year. We also handle vans, trucks, mining and construction equipment and even train carriages, and provide expert handling and logistics for time-critical automotive parts, which are imported in containers.
We understand perfectly the very exacting requirements of this specialist sector, including imports, exports and transhipment. Our customers include Renault Nissan Alliance and their wider supply chain, VW Group, Komatsu, Höegh and Hitachi.
Vehicles are carried on regular shortsea and deepsea shipping services to and from the Port. Our 150 acres of dedicated vehicle terminals have space for more than 30,000 vehicles. We also have the benefit of a Channel Tunnel approved automotive rail terminal.

BREAKBULK We say – dare to be different! This may be the age of containerisation, but not everything fits into a standard-sized box. The Port of Tyne has years of experience in handling breakbulk cargoes such as forest products and metals, and we positively relish the challenge of those unique, one-off project cargoes. The Port of Tyne has the facilities, equipment and expertise to handle a wide range of unitised, breakbulk and project cargoes. Newsprint, construction materials, waste material, big chunks of metal, even bigger chunks of machinery – we handle the lot.
Breakbulk and project cargoes are shipped on regular deepsea and shortsea services operated by BG Freight Line, DFDS, Euro Marine Logistics (EML), Unifeeder and Saga Welco. Customers include GE Wellstream, Hitachi, Höegh and International Plywood.
We have top-quality facilities for handling special one-off shipments – deepwater berths, flexible lift capacity, ro-ro ramps and extensive storage areas, all backed by our portcentric approach to logistics.

DRY BULK Cranes, grabs, hoppers, loading shovels, weighers, conveyor belts, rail links… the scope and diversity of the Port of Tyne’s bulk handling equipment and the expertise of our people more than match up to the wide variety of dry bulk we handle, from aggregates and agribulks to wood pellet, chemicals and scrap metal. The Port of Tyne handles millions of tonnes of bulk cargoes every year. We are one of the market leaders in wood pellet and agribulks – and we are equipped to provide end-to-end logistics for all types of bulk cargoes.
Our ability to handle vessels up to panamax size gives our customers significant advantages in terms of economies of scale. Riverside Quay offers a kilometre of berthing with 13 metres depth.

WAREHOUSING Secure, efficient, cost-effective and hassle-free – warehousing at the Port of Tyne is nothing short of state-of-the-art. We have 50,000m2 of high-quality portcentric warehousing, offering a fully racked, narrow-aisle, Customs approved facility. Inside, you’ll find white goods, clothing, food and drink, oil and gas equipment, and a whole lot more. We listened to our customers and developed our warehousing to match their very specific needs. We provide unique solutions to satisfy all storage and portcentic distribution requirements, with happy customers including JML, Tetley, FitFlop, Komatsu, Ringtons, GE Oil & Gas, GlaxoSmithKline and Paragon.
