Roundtable groups bring together professionals with a wide range of skills and expertise. Small, self-led groups of eight to 10 business owners and executives meet monthly for 90 minutes to share concerns and insights. 2015 MEMBERSHIP DUES AND RENEWALS » CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE 2015 DUES The Portage County Business Council & Foundation Board of Directors approved the proposed membership dues structure for 2015 at the November 19, 2014 meeting.

Base rates as well as dues for additional professionals and locations increase slightly. However, the per-employee costs for full and part-time employees and # of Rooms > 25 for hotel/motel costs remain the same.

A request was emailed to members with January renewals, urging members to review and update your business and contact information online using your member login and password. Not only is this information important to us to have on file, the following information can be found on the Portage County Business Council website, membership directory where current data is key: • Company name • Address • Phone • Primary Contact name • Additional Professionals (additional cost) If provided by the member, the following information can also be included in the online directory: • Business hours • Business description • Map to location • Key words If you haven’t reviewed your current business information recently, please take a few minutes to do so. Seven of the state’s leading health care systems – Aspirus, Aurora Health Care, Bellin Health, Gundersen Health System, ProHealth Care, ThedaCare and UW Health – today announced that their recently-formed partnership is named abouthealth™. The name makes a simple and clear statement about why these organizations have come together – to improve overall population health for the communities they serve while working together to advance clinical quality, efficiency and the customer experience. \\ Keller Planners, Architects and Builders has been ranked the number three, “Top Metal Builder” in the Nation in 2013 according to Metal Construction News’ annual ranking for tons of steel purchases. Keller purchased 8,182 tons of steel for construction in 2013.

Keller was also ranked number eight in the Nation and number one in Wisconsin by the same publication based on square footage.

Keller construction projects in 2013 included 1,069,785 square feet of steel. \\ CAP Services recently received an $8,545 grant from the American Dental Association Foundation (ADAF) to expand the Ministry Dental Center’s (MDC) Smiles Forever program in Portage and Waupaca counties.

Started in 2010, Smiles Forever is an education and advocacy program designed to educate parents and caregivers on the importance of regular dental care for infants and toddlers ages 0-3. MDC first began targeting infants/ toddlers after noticing a significant number of young children with extensive decay. Of the patients MDC saw, approximately 90% had chronic decay at 2 years or age or older. \\ Michael Copas, senior agronomist at RPE Inc., has been named as a 2014 honoree of Vance Publishing’s 40 Under 40 in Agriculture Awards. The 40 Under 40 program recognizes leaders in agriculture who are under the age of 40 and making a significant contribution to America’s food system. \\ CAP Services’ Children’s Discovery Center in Stevens Point earned a five-star rating in Wisconsin’s YoungStar program for a third straight year. YoungStar is a program of Wisconsin’s Department of Children and Families created to improve the quality of child care for Wisconsin children. \\ The Green Bay Packers Foundation awarded $3,500 to CAP Services’ Family Crisis

Center (FCC) last week, part of $600,000 the Foundation awarded to 223 civic and charitable groups throughout Wisconsin in its annual distribution of grants. \\ CliftonLarsonAllen is pleased to announce career milestones for 2 of their professionals in their Stevens Point office. Seniors Parker Sedlak and Gus Zakrzewski recently competed in Appleton at the Fox Valley Technical College Culinary Throwdown event. Each team had to prepare an entree consisting of a protein, a vegetable and a starch. In addition to showcasing their cooking skills, students also had to cost each individual serving and prepare a nutritional analysis of each dish they made.

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION SHOWCASE >> CLICK HERE TO REGISTER One of the goals of the Career & Technical Education Department throughout the Stevens Point School District is for all students to leave SPASH understanding the opportunities that are available to them as they begin to embark on their post-secondary planning.

The first annual Career & Technical Education Showcase on January 9th from 4:30-6:00pm at SPASH will provide an opportunity for 9th graders and their parents to learn about local careers and SPASH elective opportunities in the following areas: • • • •

Agriscience & Natural Resources Business & Marketing Management Family & Consumer Sciences Technology & Engineering

Partners In Education is looking for businesses to highlight careers tied to Career and Technical Education electives at SPASH. This is a great opportunity to showcase your business to the local future workforce and their parents. Participating businesses will be provided a display table located in the corridor near a related elective classroom.

This event will be held prior to the SPASH girls and boys varsity basketball games that begin at 6:00pm in the field house. Students will be provided a passport upon arrival to have stamped as they tour the various areas and will drop their filled passport into a drawing for an iPad Mini to be given away at half time during both the girls and boys varsity games that night. They will also have the opportunity to pick up giveaways at different classrooms and booths.

AMBASSADORS GIVE BACK IN MANY WAYS Volunteers, they are the lifeblood of any non-profit organization! For us, one of the most active and visible group of volunteers are part of the Ambassadors Club, which consists of 28 people.

Our Ambassadors attend many ribbon cutting ceremonies, grand opening celebrations, ground breakings, many meetings and Business Council and Foundation events. Members of this enthusiastic group generally lend a hand whenever they see something that needs doing!

Last year alone they gave back over 1,500 hours of volunteer time. That is truly amazing!

Offering twenty-two programs to six school districts takes a lot of volunteers. Partners In Education is building their volunteer database and needs your help. REALITY SHOP Over 160 students attended the SPASH Reality Shop on December 2, 2014. The Reality Shop provides an interactive way to experience balancing a monthly budget. Students select a career they are interested in and then are given a “life” including number of children, student loan debt, and credit card debt. Volunteers interact with students as real estate agents, banking institutions, social services, and retail stores to sell products and services.

LEADERSHIP PORTAGE COUNTY On December 18, 2014 the LPC participants learned about the legal system in Portage County. The day started off at the PC Annex where session leaders Ron Carlson and Tom Eagon welcomed the current class. Participants Kassi Czahor, Amy Peterson and Ariel Welling gave their speeches and it was off to the Courthouse to learn about the legal system with Judge Finn, Branch II and Patricia Baker, Portage County Clerk of Courts. Participants then went back to the PC Annex and discussed values, ethics, credibility and their interim assignments. Next came lunch at the PC jail and tour of the facility led by Rocky Bolder, Juvenile Detention Administrator. Back at the PC Annex, Ron Carlson and Curt Helminiak presented on various Justiceworks programs. The day wrapped up with a session on managing and resolving conflict.
