NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD 3118 Post Road, Suite A Stevens Point, WI 54481 (715) 204-1640 http://www.ncwwdb.org

2015 is a year of exciting changes for the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board (NCWWDB). Beginning in July, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) will supersede the Board’s main funding source namely the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998. WIOA’s focus is to help job seekers and workers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy. Under WIOA, functions of the Local Board are to: • Align federal investments to support job seekers and employers • Strengthen the governing bodies that establish state, regional and local workforce investment priorities • Help employers find workers with the necessary skills • Align goals and increases accountability and information for job seekers and the public • Foster regional collaboration to meet the needs of regional economies • Target workforce services to better serve job seekers • Improve services to individuals with disabilities • Support access to services Also, NCWWDB recently received a Wisconsin Fast Forward grant from the WI Department of Workforce Development earmarked for IT workforce training needs. NCWWDB applied for the grant on behalf of three Portage County companies (Skyward Inc., Sentry Insurance, and Delta Dental of Wisconsin, Inc.) and in collaboration with UW-Stevens Point and Mid-State Technical College. Employment in information technology-related occupations in Central Wisconsin is projected to grow by over 12% by 2018. This training initiative will not only upskill an in-demand workforce, but help expand the capacity of training providers and help build an industry alliance focused on workforce strategies to address the workforce gap in this industry. “We are very excited to receive a training grant that will help develop critical IT-related skills in our regional labor pool here in Portage County,” Rene Daniels, NCWWDB Executive Director recently announced. “This project is the result of a truly unique partnership among area employers, higher education, and the workforce board.”
