2018
TODD KUCKKAHN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The final of the six values of the Portage County Business Council is growth. In past articles, the focus has been on the other five; engagement, innovation, leadership, network development and partnerships. Growth is defined as sharing member, community, regional and statewide resources to enhance our partnerships. It is that and more. Summertime in Wisconsin is all about growth. With July upon us, we hope for the corn to be knee-high by the fourth of July. All of our crops have beautified our landscapes and scenery, including some of our own backyards. Agriculture is a critical part of our economy. We celebrate this important sector annually with our Ag Tours in late summer/fall and our American Agriculture Appreciation Banquet. We also see growth in the business parks and businesses throughout our community. Service Cold Storage and Ki Mobility, right in our physical neighborhood are both expanding. Maher Water Corporation is building a new facility and CliftonLarsonAllen will be moving into the Ellis Construction building around the corner from us.
Putt N Play is adding laser tag. A round-a-bout is being constructed to manage traffic on the north end of Division. UW-Stevens Point will be opening their new science building in August and our Partners In Education social and Golden Apple awards will be one of the first events in it on August 23.(Click here for the event.) Some excellent resources for our community. There are also opportunities for high school students to grow. The Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) Foundation is hosting one of three Business World Summer Programs at UW-Stevens Point in July. This competitive academic program is designed to teach Wisconsin high school students the values of financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and freemarket enterprise. Since 1982, over 20,000 students have participated in Business World events. This is the first year it is being held in central Wisconsin. There is still time to sign up at https://www.wmc.org/programs/ business-world/summer-program/. Contact us if you are interested in a scholarship.
Personal growth never ends either. It was great having Chris Goede from The John Maxwell Company here the end of May to do two sessions on leadership. He spoke on the “5 Levels of Leadership”. Leadership, corporate culture, personal growth, intentionality, strategic and critical thinking and influence are all important no matter what level of leadership you are at and no matter where you “fit” in a business. PCBC’s Leadership Portage County program (http://portagecountybiz.com/lpc/) is a wonderful opportunity for you to grow in central Wisconsin. We are experiencing growth in our parks and waterways, too. The Little Plover River Watershed Enhancement Project is being led by the Village of Plover. Some of the partners include the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Wetlands Association, Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, Portage County Land Conservation Department, and Montgomery Associates. A true growth partnership to maintain and enhance the beauty of our region. We are blessed to live in this community. We are proud and humble and that needs to change. We need to brag. We need to share the wonder of our community. Use your social media to share all of the great opportunities in our area. Let’s continue that growth!

We still have much to learn, but we value making room for one another---even with our differences. All people in this community are ministers of God’s love and grace. We pray for one another, take care of one another, watch out for one another, rejoice with one another, and serve God by serving each other and our neighbors. We believe that God desires every one to have enough. We believe God calls us to love sacrificially and to bless others as we have been blessed. We realize our wholeness and wellness depends on the wholeness and wellness of every human being and all of Creation.
