COMMUNITY CALENDAR & WASTE COLLECTION SCHEDULE

Naturally PoCo

Collection zones

About our 2020 calendar

Find your collection day info: • On the monthly calendar pages • In the Sort it Right! flipguide available at City facilities and portcoquitlam.ca/sortitright

• With the free PoCo Waste-Line app: portcoquitlam.ca/wasteline • At portcoquitlam.ca/waste (Waste Cart & Collection Info page)

All photos featured in the calendar were submitted by community shutterbugs. The striking cover image, entitled Sunset, was captured by Mehran Najafi at Blakeburn Lagoons Park, a favourite spot for local photographers. We thank all contributors and will feature these and other submitted photos in City publications and portcoquitlam.ca/photos.

ZONE

2

ZONE

The theme of our 2020 calendar is once again Naturally PoCo, highlighting the beauty in the flora, fauna and landscapes that can be found in and around Port Coquitlam.

1

Don’t be a

BEAR TARGET

ZONE

3

5

One meal is enough to bring a bear back to your neighbourhood again and again. Secure attractants to keep your family and neighbours safe and avoid a fine. More tips and info: portcoquitlam.ca/bears.

LOCK IT UP ZONE

4

• Secure attractants in a garage or shed, or with an approved cart lock. • Pick ripe fruit and berries and remove when fallen. • Clean your barbecue after every use. • Keep pet food and bird seed out of reach.

ZONE

5

SET IT OUT

5

A sustainable approach

• Set out unlocked carts at the curb 5:30-7:30 am on collection day. • Secure them again by 7 pm.

The calendars were also delivered to Port Coquitlam households in 100% biodegradable plastic bags. Please recycle this calendar at the end of 2020.

DO YOUR PART! Avoid the top 5 mistakes

1

Plastic bags and soft plastics

2

Construction waste and treated or stained wood

3

Food waste and food-soiled papers

4

Styrofoam trays, containers and packaging

5

Electronics, power tools and small appliances

SALAD

Most soft plastics go to the recycling depot. They never go in your blue or green cart – even to hold other items. (Exception: Put shredded paper in a clear bag in your blue cart.)

Take these items to the Coquitlam Transfer Station (1200 United Blvd). They are not permitted in your garbage or green cart.

Always put food scraps and food-soiled papers (e.g. napkins and pizza boxes) in your green cart, not your garbage cart.

Take Styrofoam containers and trays to a recycling depot. Styrofoam does not go in the garbage or recycling cart.

Find out where it goes Waste disposal resources and the Sort it Right! search tool: portcoquitlam.ca/sortitright Printed materials at City facilities, or drop by Public Works to speak to staff 604.927.5496

Free PoCo Waste-Line app: Collection reminders, search tool and more: portcoquitlam.ca/wasteline Ask a question or request a presentation for your group, school or complex: portcoquitlam.ca/ambassadors

Recycle these items rather than trashing them. For electronics: returnit.ca/electronics. For small appliances and power tools: electrorecycle.ca.
