Porter Davis &TheHamptons STYLE Being the builder that introduced the Hamptons look to Australia, we have a great understanding on how to re-create and diversify this now extremely popular style.
We sent our two senior designers to visit the seaside villages and hamlets that hug the coast along the South East fork of Long Island that make up the Hamptons, so they could see the architecture first hand and determine if we could recreate a similar style and adapt it to our Australian climate and lifestyle. When we launched our first Hamptons inspired display in 2014 we had some initial resistance from land developers who did not embrace the style but new home-buyers loved it and the rest you could say, is history. Today, it’s apparent that the Hamptons style has taken Australia by storm and the best place to see its multiple incarnations, is at one of our Porter Davis displays where our associates, with their long history and understanding of the style, will be happy to show you all the key features to creating your very own piece of Hamptons living.

What makes a
Hamptons HOME?
The architecture of the communities along the eastern beaches of Long Island New York make up the Hamptons and the houses have a look that is distinctly their own. It’s all about being modern, classic, cool and welcoming. Exterior

When it comes to colour some people prefer the classic white on white look for the whole exterior but the more popular option is light grey with white feature trims. Utilising two varying shades of grey sometimes even a deep ink or charcoal, is a developing trend that not only creates contrast, it delivers an eye-catching modern take on the overall theme.
panelling. The introduction of accent colours of pastel hues including duck egg blue, sage, lemon and blush can also be used to compliment the traditional subtle grey, white and blue palette. Stone is a must for benchtops, while timber look floors, white plantation shutters, shaker profile cabinets, elegant tapware, pendant lighting and subway or large format tiles in wet areas, help to create that timeless Hamptons look. The perfect combination of old and new, in a relaxed and inviting setting. Think oversized enveloping sofas with slip-covers, accented by bold stripped and floral patterned cushions with piping, ticking or chintz. Combine with wooden sideboards, rattan chairs, and layered with blue and white ceramics, occasional tray tables and beautiful coffee table books. For the crowning glory, use luscious green statement plants and floral throughout to compliment and bring life to this traditional neutral palette.

Hamptons kitchen with darker cabinetry —
Hamptons kitchens feature a large open plan living, which incorporates ease of access to family, dining and outdoor areas. White marble look stone bench tops and shaker style cabinetry creates a sophisticated workspace. Primarily white finishes are used for kitchen cabinetry but it should be noted that there has been a trend towards greys and darker tones to create a more dramatic and contemporary feel, including accent cabinetry colours of blue or sage. Glass panelled overhead cabinet doors, subway, herringbone or marble feature tiled splashbacks and an oversized island bench with stools are part of the overall look, as is large feature pendant lighting in nickel, brass, bronze or antique black finishes.

Decorative mirrors are the centrepiece of the bathroom and can be quite impressive; these are embellished even further by being framed by sconce wall lighting or pendant lights. Some people prefer a modern take on the classical, there is no right or wrong - just whatever suits your lifestyle. The traditional vintage Hamptons-style utilises ornate country style tapware and to complete the look, you could even consider a detailed Hamptons style freestanding bath.

Hamptons STYLES Being the experts in Hamptons design in Australia, we have a variety of homes that feature the Hamptons look.
Classic Hamptons This is a classic and sophisticated twist on the casual and relaxing beach look the Hamptons is renowned for. Rich textures, such as velvets combine with more relaxed linen furnishings, give this look a distinctive air of elegance which makes it blend perfectly into an urban lifestyle.
Over the years we have refined our Hamptons styles to suit people wanting the Hamptons-look, but looking to put a slightly different take on it. Some people prefer to introduce darker elements whilst others want a more casual beach resort theme. Following are the varying Hamptons styles that feature in Porter Davis display homes.
—
Create this look with feature chairs, soft piped linen sofas with skirted bases. Light oak timbers are used extensively for flooring, whilst large beautiful table lamps and summer patterned toned soft furnishings in accents of duck egg and ink blue create a calming mood. Complete the theme with coastal artwork/dĂŠcor and ornate skirting and cornices leading out to painted wicker outdoor furniture.

Classic Hamptons – Luxe Interior of the homes in the Hamptons can vary but there is one distinct difference that is immediately obvious and that is some people prefer the use of darker timbers for flooring, furniture and cabinetry; instead of the traditional oak. This look is verging on dramatic and it ensures the lighter fixtures and furnishings in your home really make a statement.
—
Create this look by utilising a deeper and richer palette, especially in relation to cabinetry and flooring, combine this with the elements of the more standard Classic Hamptons such as large linen couches and lamps and lamps in lighter tones as well as feature pieces in vibrant blues and you will have created a style with a serious WOW factor.
Classic Hamptons - Vineyard The East End of Long Island is wine country and this Vineyard theme is a twist on the traditional Classic Hamptons. This is where the greenery of the vineyards sits in complete harmony with the blue accents of the ocean.
—
Create this look by combining the traditional Hamptons colours grey, white with blue with sage green accented feature pieces. Take your shaker style kitchen cabinets and turn them into a feature that reflects the Vineyard theme. Compliment your oak flooring, coffee tables and sideboards with a combination of sage and blue hues to your feature chairs, cushions, throw, rugs and ceramic pieces to create this tranquil spin on the classic theme.

Classic – Long Island Based at the tip of Long Islands South fork is Montauk (known locally as The End). Our Long Island theme is where the Classic Hamptons intersects with the more beach inspired contemporary culture of Montauk.
—
Create this look with a grey toned base palette combined with linen sofas, textured cushions and throws. Timber flooring and furniture pieces in either oaks or blackened timber create contrast and depth against the softly toned palette. Depending on your window configuration, roman sheers or shutters can be used in a neutral palette to create greater emphasis on any external foliage. Complete this contemporary style with textured and glazed ceramics and indoor plants.
Contemporary - Cape Cod Although Cape Cod is a long way from the Hamptons, its overall style is very similar. It maintains the base features of the Hamptons but its palette in deeper and richer in colour with the introduction of Charcoals and Inks, whilst still maintaining the softness of the Hamptons style with its mix of soft dusty blues.
—
Create this look with natural textured timbers in driftwood beach tones, combined with indulgent linens to create a sense of warmth. Nautical style feature lighting in antique nickle and iron accentuate the theme, especially when combined with coastal inspired artwork.
