WEEK 3 READING: LEGER, LE CORBUSIER AND PURISM
Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words) According to Le Corbusier’s suggestion, Pictorial Space ‘is that which cannot be entered or circulated through; it is irremediably space viewed from a distance, and is therefore eternally resigned to frontality.’ (Leger, Le Corbusier and Purism. Krauss, Rosalind, 1972). Pictorial space is a fictitious, intangible space that cannot be measured. It also cannot be physically accessed since it exists only visually. It is a flat frontal view.
Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words) ‘Concept of frontalization that made the surface of the painting a concatenation of grounds against which texture, as the memory image of depth, appeared to lie at a certain remove. It was the visible closing of the distance between these two poles of vision.’ (Leger, Le Corbusier and Purism. Krauss, Rosalind, 1972) The two properties are pure extensiom and continuity of edges. In Le Corbusier’s painting, pure extension is the registration of an object, converting it into a flat shape. Continuity of edges are the constellation of objects.

MARIO’S WORLD
3
1ST MARIO’S WORLD
An axonometric workspace is set up. The first mario world is being projected. T-square, set square and 4H pencil is used to project lines forward from the template. There is no character and decoration in the mario world now.
4
COMBINED MARIO’S WORLD
Combined two mario worlds with 200mm x 200mm base. Detail is added such as characters, depth and complexity.

WEEK 4 READING: PRACTICE: ARCHITECTURE, TECHNIQUE AND REPRESENTATION
Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words) Allen explains that Pictorial or Perspectival space is a limited space which is presented as a static facade view, according what already existed. It focused more towards how we visualise the image from a point of view derived from vanishing points that are constructed by converging construction lines. On the other hand, Projection is said to construct a view which does not yet exist. Obejects are not drawn based on vanishing point which distorts measurements. Thus, it focus more about the technical details involved in measurement.
Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words) Axonometric projection first arose in ancient visual practice in the early 20th century. It developed closely related to mechanization and industrialization. It also be used for military purpose.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD
Add more details in Adobe Illustrator such as the underground structure. Traced and coloured in Illustrator.

APPENDIX
These are all the equipment that I used when I do the project. Including T-square, set square, fine line and pencil.

The beginning of drawing the back part of the image Set the picture of mario world and tracing paper on the table with the angle of 45 degrees.
Using one picture of mario world as front view and another as back view.
