Never before has such a great amount of film been so easy to access in Portland during one of our best seasons–the summer. Once a year, a group of highly educated and successful people (scientists, doctors, lawyers, pilots, piano teachers, etc) meet to build, row, and race very unseaworthy boats made solely of cardboard and duct tape. The tape can only be used to seal seams, cannot be wrapped around the boat, and so odds are stacked against the participants. Also, there is no real reward for the winner. Why then compete in this race? The answer is because it’s not a race, it’s an experience, and sometimes it takes a completely stupid, pointless, and futile gesture like this to remind us of who we really are. USA 15m.
