Enrollment Process

New-to-CMC students: Use the “application” activity number below to be put on a waiting list for an opening. Placement with an instructor depends on openings that are available at the time you apply. The CMC Private Lesson program runs through the school year 2022–23 (October to June). Lessons are scheduled between instructor and student at a mutually agreeable day and time, as verbally confirmed. Your instructor may require materials not included in registration fee. Beginners start with 30-minute lessons; advanced students (playing concertos or sonatas) move to 45-minute lessons; 60-minute lessons are provided in special cases. Suzuki, traditional, hybrid, and other instructional methods are used, depending on the instructor. Daily individual practice between classes is a required part of successful music instruction. • New Beginners: Apply using activity code 1149757

• Students with prior lesson experience who are new to CMC:

Apply using activity code 1149758

If/when a placement with a teacher is made you will be asked to set up a payment plan for lessons and attend a parent orientation class. • Continuing CMC students are already registered through mid-June and stay with the same lesson schedule through the school year.

Age 6 & under with an adult

Ladybug Nature Walks take place in Portland’s parks and natural areas. Children attend with an adult who assists in guiding them along as they explore. Children learn through questions, observation, and play. Groups move slowly through the park, stopping often. In this way, children have time to notice the plants and animals around them. We may also read a story, sing a song, or use puppets for imaginative play. While exploring, children borrow a small ladybug backpack with a few fun tools like: a magnifying lens, metal spoon, color wheel, bug box, paintbrush, and a toy insect.

Walks last about an hour and take place at 10:00am in a different Portland park each week.
