NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION STEPS

Set Up Your Student Account

Ensure you have set up your student account. You will need to wait 24 hours after account setup before you can sign up for Orientation.

Confirm Enrollment

All newly admitted students must confirm enrollment to guarantee your spot at PSU.

Sign Up for and Complete Online Orientation

Completion of Online Orientation provides you with course registration access for your first term of classes.

Register for Classes

After completing the module, you’re ready to register for courses.

Attend a Virtual Registration Lab

Looking for guidance around course registration? PSU staff and Orientation Leaders will be ready to help you in the process of selecting your first term courses. go.pdx.edu/orientation

New Student Orientation is an essential part of your undergraduate college experience and provides a foundation for success. Online Orientation will provide you with details about campus life, student services, and degree requirements. Completion of Online Orientation is required for all incoming undergraduate students and will provide you with course registration access for your first term.

WHAT TO EXPECT

On June 15, you’ll receive an email reminder to sign up for New Student Orientation. You will need to log in to the Orientation portal to sign up. On June 21, you’ll get access to your Online Orientation module. A notification will be sent to your @pdx.edu email address with your unique link to complete the module. You will receive this email within 30 minutes of registering. Your link is unique to you and your student account. You will not be able to access Online Orientation with anyone else’s link.

Click the unique link in the email to begin your Online Orientation and complete the module. The module is self-paced, takes approximately 90 minutes to complete, and can be completed at any time that works for your schedule. Your link to the online orientation will

expire three weeks after receiving it.

WELCOME WEBINARS

You’ll join staff from PSU’s Academic Advising team during one of these optional freshman student or transfer student-specific webinars and learn about PSU’s advising pathways. We strongly encourage you to join us for one of these live events to learn more about how your advisor can best support you during your time at PSU. Family members or those supporting new PSU students are also invited to attend.

PREPARE FOR ORIENTATION pdx.edu/admissions/orientation/prepare

ENSURE ALL COLLEGE CREDIT TRANSCRIPTS ARE SENT TO PSU // Send all college credit transcripts, including AP, IB, and dual credit from high school to PSU. This ensures advisors have all the information needed to help you plan your first term of courses.

UNDERSTAND PSU'S GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS // All PSU undergraduate students complete general education requirements in addition to courses related to their major. General education requirements are met by completing the University Studies or Honors College curriculum. Online Orientation provides an in-depth look at how you’ll complete your General Education requirements alongside your degree and major requirements. The University Studies and Honors College Overview modules may be helpful in continuing to explore this topic.

REVIEW DEGREE AND MAJOR REQUIREMENTS // In addition to general education courses, your class schedule will also include courses related to your major and degree requirements.

COMPLETE MATH PLACEMENT TEST (REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN MAJORS) // Students in certain majors need to complete the math placement test prior to signing up for Orientation. pdx.edu/math/placement

DOWNLOAD THE MYPSU APP // Prepare for Orientation by downloading the myPSU app from the Google Play Store or iTunes Store. The myPSU app is designed to help students plan their courses and keep track of important To Do’s as a PSU student. Sign in to MyPSU: my.pdx.edu

VIRTUAL REGISTRATION LABS

Once you have finished online orientation, you’ll have access to register for your first term courses. However, you may still have questions about your degree map and selecting courses. PSU staff and student Orientation Leaders are ready to assist during any of our drop-in Virtual Registration Lab dates.

You'll get instructions about how to make an appointment with your advisor during orientation, you do not need to make an

appointment with an academic advisor prior to completing orientation.

CONNECT2PSU

Connect2PSU Days are afternoons of live presentations hosted on Zoom by a rotating cast of PSU campus partners. Organized into two separate Zoom rooms, you’ll have the opportunity to connect in real time with current students and staff in sessions that kick-off at the top of the hour. Drop in for as little or as long as you would like! RSVP required.
