hanna fransman HOMETOWN: Falun, Sweden MAJOR: Architecture HOW YOU FIRST FOUND OUT ABOUT PSU: I had a friend who was at PSU and I met a PSU admissions counselor at a college fair in Sweden. FAVORITE THING TO DO IN PORTLAND: Exploring the trails in Washington and Forest parks, either by foot or by bike.

HOW YOU KNEW PSU WAS RIGHT FOR YOU: PSU’s admissions representatives were always quick to get back to me and made me feel very welcome.
FAVORITE CLASS IN YOUR MAJOR: Documentary Production courses have been the most influential to me as an aspiring filmmaker. HOW YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME: A walk in Washington Park on a nice day! Or the movies, the Hollywood Theatre is my favorite. YOUR ADVICE TO STUDENTS APPLYING TO COLLEGE: Don’t be afraid to get in touch directly with colleges you are considering. Contact your department office with specific questions.
FAVORITE CLASS: My final Architecture Design Studio. I got to work closely with a Portland neighborhood group and gained a better understanding of communitybased design. MOST SURPRISING THING ABOUT PSU: From the start I felt like it was easy to try different activities/groups and always feel welcomed, which helped me find my place in the community relatively fast.

Submit your official transcripts to PSU, including English translation. To speed up the application review process, upload unofficial copies of your transcripts online at go.pdx.edu/international. Admitted students are required to submit official transcripts and documents in order to enroll at PSU.

Submit evidence of English language proficiency. Students who meet the academic requirements for admission to PSU, but have not yet met English proficiency requirements, will be admitted with an ESL restriction and placed in PSU’s Intensive English Language Program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FRESHMEN: 3.0 or higher high school grade point average (GPA) on the U.S. 4.0 grading scale TR ANSFER: Students with 30 or more transferable quarter credits (20 semester credits)—excluding English as a Second Language (ESL) courses—earned after high school graduation will be reviewed for admission as a transfer student. • 2.25 or higher cumulative college grade point average (GPA) on the U.S. 4.0 grading scale

E N G L I S H L A N GUAG E P R O F I C I E N C Y: Students who want to immediately begin their university coursework must meet PSU’s undergraduate English Language Proficiency Requirement. TOEFL: Internet-based: minimum overall score of 71; minimum subscore of 15 in reading and writing Paper-based: 527; Computer-based: 197 IELTS: 6.0 overall; Minimum 6.0 in reading and writing PTE: 53 overall SAT (not required): 560 or above in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Section PSU will waive TOEFL/IELTS for students who complete a transferable associate degree from a U.S. institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and eight credits of college-level writing (including the equivalent of WR 121 and an additional higherlevel college writing course) with a grade of a C- or better.

APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS go.pdx.edu/scholarships/international PSU offers three types of scholarships to new students: • International Achievement Scholarship • Elite International Scholar and Diversity Award • University Honors College Scholarship All admitted international students will automatically be considered for merit scholarships. Merit scholarships up to $12,000 are awarded to academically qualified students. No separate application is required. *Costs based on 2019-20 figures. Tuition and fees based on 12 credits per quarter for three quarters.
