SING AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY PSU’s vocal program is the largest in the Northwest with more than 100 students studying voice privately and more than 250 students singing in seven different choirs. Members of the PSU Voice Faculty have international and national reputations as performers and teachers. Each year, internationally recognized opera and choral artists come to PSU to inspire and teach. The Portland Community offers our students many opportunities to perform with professional organizations such as the Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera, Opera Theatre Oregon, and Live on Stage. Our alumni are winners of major awards and competitions. Many have successful careers as professional singers on Broadway and at the Metropolitan opera, and as conductors and music educators at high schools and colleges throughout the country and in Europe. The world-renowned Portland State Chamber Choir tours internationally and has won more than 30 medals at choir competitions on four different continents. They are also the only University choir ever to have an album hit #1 on the Billboard Classical Chart. Our choirs join the Oregon Symphony every year to perform masterworks like Carmina Burana as well as film scores like Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. OPERA

PSU’s award-winning opera program presents two productions each year, one full production with orchestra and one featuring new works. Undergraduate students often perform lead roles in our productions, a rarity in collegiate Opera programs. SCHOL ARSHIPS

The PSU School of Music and Theater also offers more than 150 music scholarships totaling $400,000 in funds annually. Awards range from $1500 up to full tuition. Full scholarships are available for in-state and out-of-state voice majors. Students receiving scholarships are eligible for tuition remissions to cover tuition and fees.
