The Portland Timbers have adopted Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest, Portland YouthBuilders, and Friends of Trees as our nonprofit pillar partners for the 2011-2013 seasons. In addition to hosting collaborative fundraising events, we teamed up with these valued partners on the following initiatives: Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest The Portland Timbers partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest on the Sports Buddies program, which is a one-to-one mentoring program for at-risk youth with an emphasis on sports. In its first year the Sports Buddies program brought together over 100 matches. The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Friends of Trees Friends of Trees, JELD-WEN, and the Timbers teamed up to plant trees in the Portland community for every goal scored in 2011 through the Score a Goal, Plant a Tree initiative. Friends of Trees, JELD-WEN, and the Timbers planted trees in the Boise, Eliot, Humbolt, and King neighborhoods to represent the 40 goals scored by the Timbers in 2011. Friends of Trees’ mission is to bring people in the Portland-Vancouver and Eugene-Springfield metro areas together to plant and care for city trees and green spaces. Portland YouthBuilders The Portland Timbers and D.R. Horton partnered with Portland YouthBuilders to help build a home in NE Portland in conjunction with MLS W.O.R.K.S. Community Service Program. In addition, the Timbers and adidas came together over the holidays to adopt 15 PYB students by bringing their kids much needed shoes, clothes and toys.
