IT’S SUMMER

lime

Summer in a glass - that’s what you will find at Byblos this month and there is plenty of lime to go around. The riverfront hot spot has launched a brand new summer drinks list bursting with fruity, thirst quenching, citrus infused summer cocktails. ‘From Peru with Love’ tickles the tastebuds with fresh lime juice, housemade Australian falernum and kiwi fruit puree, while the ‘Cool Rummings’ packed with cacao, banana, and fresh lime juice could be confused with a ridiculously tasty version of your morning smoothie but with a cheeky adults only twist. While you are working your way through the list, make sure you don’t skip over the Byblos Classics, in particular fan favourite the ‘Lychee Basil Martini’ which is the perfect combination of Green Tea liqueur, Arak, Malibu, fresh lime juice, lychee, apple juice and basil. ARE YOU A PORTSIDE LOYALTY CLUB MEMBER? All Loyalty Club members can enjoy a lunch time share platter at Byblos for two people for just $49 between Monday and Friday, 11.30am to 4.00pm.

MAX BRENNER Sono is giving you the chance to win a $3,000 dining voucher to spend any way you wish. You could host a party at Sono or enjoy quality Japanese cuisine every week - the choice is yours. Ice cream, you scream we all scream for ice cream...

particularly when it’s dipped in chocolate fondue. Yep, that’s right. For a limited time Max Brenner has released a Fantastic Popsicle Fondue. & BEAUTY

BEAT THE HEAT

IN STYLE Float through summer in flirty, floral fabrics. Summer is all about playful and romantic styles with pastels featuring heavily this season, but not at the expense of vibrant pops of colour which cannot be overlooked. Pink and orange have both been touted as the colours of the season so keep your eyes peeled whilst perusing the racks of the fashion boutique’s at Portside. To beat the heat, nice cool cottons and delicate chiffons are the way to go, with loose dresses and lightweight kaftans your best summer staples. The best thing about gorgeous, relaxed fitting Kaftans is that they don’t take up any space in your luggage and don’t require ironing, making them the perfect

travel garment. For those taking a well deserved vacation throughout January, low maintenance fabrics are a must. The last thing you want to be doing is slaving away over an ironing board on your summer getaway. The ladies at Costa Moda recommend a practical mix of garments that can be taken out of a suitcase and worn without the fuss, that easily layer up and down to suit not only the climate but day or night occasions. To finish off your summer wardrobe, you need the perfect pair of shoes. Tracey Mathers Shoe Studio has a great range of bright and breezy sandals, heels in varying heights, glitzy flats and gorgeous espadrilles to complement your summer outfit.

LOOK AFTER YOUR SKIN

YEAR ROUND Ella Bache Hamilton looks after your skin all year round and with their new look sun and tanning range, your skin will be well and truly protected from the harsh rays this summer.

Summer MENS

ESSENTIALS

Dressing well in the heat can be challenging for blokes. The classic jackets, layers and textured fabrics that kept him looking so smart throughout the cooler months are invariably way too stifling for summer. With the right summer essentials in the wardrobe, men can still look trendy and be comfortable as the mercury rises. The biggest tip for summer is to make sure your shirt is made of natural fabric like pure cotton which allows skin to breathe. Adding some dress cotton shorts into the mix with some short sleeve shirts and polos will keep you pretty well covered for summer. A polo shirt that fits well can be one of the sharpest and most versatile shirts in your wardrobe so having a few different colours to mix and match with your summer shorts and pants will take you pretty well anywhere. Urbbana’s polo shirts are hand made and 100% cotton meaning they look and feel great. A good pair of loafers is also a must and the calfskin leather loafers hand made in Portugal currently in store at Urbbana will finish off any summer outfit.

GREAT 50+ SPORTSBLOC ACTIVE This four hour water resistant cream provides an active defence against the harsh Australian sun. Enriched with super-fruit antioxidant complex and multifunctional skin emollients for optimum hydration, the cream provides broad spectrum, balanced UVA/UVB protection.

It develops a golden sunless tan over 1 to 2 hours. Being pH balanced and stabilised, it delivers a natural looking tan, adjusted to suit your skin. It also protects skin from free radicals with an antioxidant complex of green tea and vitamin E and also boasts the Next-to-No Odour technology.

GREAT TAN WITHOUT SUN A moisture rich cream that provides a natural, golden tan without the sun, leaving skin soft and supple. Tinted for an immediate sun-kissed effect, it develops a streak-free tan after 1 to 2 hours. The cream is enriched with cocoa butter and lanolin to protect against dehydration and antioxidant complex of vitamin E and green tea extracts to protect the skin surface from free radicals. Ideal for the face and body, it may be applied every few days to maintain your natural looking tan. It’s pH balanced and stabilised to deliver a natural looking tan adjusted to suit your skin so it won’t turn your skin orange! The Nextto-No Odour technology significantly reduces the tell-tale tan odour.

STUDIO PILATES

TIGHTEN THAT TOOSHIE

at home

There are plenty of exercises that can be done in the comfort of your own home without the need for any equipment at all. In fact sometimes the simplest moves are the most effective. For a killer glute exercise that will tighten and tone your backside, try this adaptation of a fundamental Pilates mat exercise. The ‘clam kick out’ is a variation of the traditional side lying ‘clam’ whereby you lay on your side, hips stacked one on top of the other with your knees bent in front. Keeping your toes glued together, open your top knee to the ceiling focusing on opening up through the hip, separate the toes, extend the top foot diagonally back, draw it in, tap the toes and close the knees. Repeat for 30 slow, controlled reps on each side. To ensure you get the most out of the exercise, keep those hips stacked and make sure your top hip does not roll backwards.
