DINING Byblos bartender Cody Kings has made it through to the Top 11 for the Hendricks Hot Gin Punch Tournament which puts creativity to the test, requiring bartenders to design a Hot Gin Punch that provokes the imagination. Each concoction is accompanied by a fantastic tale or story to transport the consumer to another world. Cody’s Hendrick’s Conquering Concoction is a delicious and enticing punch which has been inspired by the old and almost forgotten tale of Hendrick - a young cucumber farmer who travelled across the Kingdom of Inbhir Gharbhain to rescue the beautiful Princess from the evil Dragon Leevon. Along the way, Hendrick collected unusual and interesting ingredients, including the magical

dragonfruit which was said to be able to calm even the fiercest of beasts, to add to his potion along with his families secret elixir. You may even recognise his family’s elixir today if you walk into Byblos. It’s a delightful little drop called Hendricks. Hendrick’s Conquering Concoction combines Hendricks Gin, puree made from rockmelon, dragonfruit, guava and custard apple, and tea made from liquorice root, star anise, cinnamon and Earl Grey with blueflowers. The cocktail is finished with lemon juice, grapefruit juice and simple syrup. The Top 11 contestants will travel to a secret location this month to compete in the final event. Stay tuned for the results!

FEELING

AT GUSTO The chefs at Gusto da Gianni like to keep things fresh. Showcasing some of the best Australian seafood, there are a number of brand new special dishes that are available on request. Red emperor al cartoccio with scalloped potatoes; and a carpaccio of Western Australian scampi with South Australian cuttlefish are two of the superb dishes that have recently appeared on the specials menu. These are perfectly matched with a bottle of Alois Lageder 2000 Riesling from Sudtirol which is in the region of Alto Adige, situated near the German border. For the pasta lovers, home-made ravioli filled with Western Australian marron is being served with a beautiful bisque reduction and is ideally matched with a bottle of Alois Lageder Chardonnay Buchholz 1997 from Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy.

CHILLI TUESDAY

THICK, SILKY AND RICH There is nothing more comforting than a big mug filled to the brim with thick, silky, rich hot chocolate that warms you up from the inside and Max Brenner is launching two limited edition hot chocolates in August. The luscious liquorice hot chocolate is a unique spin on the popular beverage, with a sweet liquorice milk infusion. For those with a sweeter tooth, the strawberry fields cheesecake hot chocolate, made with white hot chocolate is simply heavenly. For your dose of decadence make sure you get down to Max Brenner before the end of the month.

Warm up at the Burrito Bar with all you can eat chilli con carne when you dine in on Tuesdays. There is something seriously satisfying about a wholesome bowl full of spicy meat, served with corn chips and lashings of sour cream. Fill up on delicious chilli and a drink of your choice for just $12.50.

COLOMBIA Tree Cycle Coffee, Portside’s newest coffee shop, is serving up everything from espresso and milk-based coffees, to single origins with different roasting profiles and brewing methods such as filter, Aeropress and Chemex. The beans are sourced direct from Colombian coffee farmers and roasted locally in Brisbane. For those of you who are serious about your coffee, visit the guys for a lesson on how to grow it, brew it and drink it the Colombian way.

Whether it’s a birthday, an engagement party, corporate function or a night out with your friends the food and atmosphere can make or break the experience. Belvedere Bar & Grill offers the lot. Perched on the Brisbane River it houses the stylish white bar featuring Belvedere vodka and 11 beers on tap. The huge 110sqm deck overlooks the river and to top it all off, if you book and confirm any function during the months of August and September for a group of at least 10 people, you will receive a 10 per cent discount on the total bill. We are sold.

Fashion There may still be a chill in the air but the fact that spring/ summer collections are starting to appear in stores across the precinct means the warmer weather cannot be too far away. Designed in Australia and inspired by the latest European trends, the first pieces in Gabriella Frattini’s new collection have landed in store at Portside Wharf. Full of vibrant colours, exquisite prints and beautiful detail, the new collection is fresh and modern. Update your wardrobe with pretty pastels, romantic florals, ethnic chic and graphic prints.

LAYER UP

Many women are afraid to layer their clothes for fear of looking bigger than they actually are! In fact a perfectly layered look will complement your curves and create the illusion of a more proportional silhouette. The ladies at Costa Moda have found that several layers of light weight knits together with a statement scarf are warm without the chunky look of bulky jumpers. Being able to remove or add a layer as the temperature rises and falls works perfectly for our Queensland climate and is the ideal approach to dressing when travelling.

WHAT

SHOULD OWN For a sharp and stylish look this season don the three piece suit. According to owner of Urbbana Men’s Style Studio Sam Abi, every gentleman should have a classic jacket, trousers and waistcoat combo in their wardrobe. Sam says a waist coat is an essential part of a man’s wardrobe and is perfect for Brisbane weather. It can be worn on top of a dress shirt and look incredibly suave without the need for a jacket. Sam’s tips for suiting up throughout August include playing with patterns. Windowpane check is a pattern that is back with a vengeance this season and you can see it across Urbbana’s current suit collection. The dominating colours this season are navy, charcoal, burgundy and brown.

SKIN FACT FROM ELLA BACHE HAMILTON The skin’s level of hydration is at its lowest during the winter season when the weather becomes cold and dry. This climate can leave the skin dry, dull, sensitive and flaky. The latest innovation from Ella Bache - the Extreme Regeneration Mask - uses advanced ingredient technology including bio-cellulose, hyaluronic acid and collagen to deliver intensive rehydration and extreme cell regeneration. For rapid results visit the team at Ella Bache Hamilton and check out the Extreme Hydration Facial Treatment which offers intensive rehydration and skin regeneration in a minimum time with maximum results.

Pinnacle at Portside Wharf has opened five new display apartments, showcasing what it would be like to live in one of the precinct’s most luxurious buildings.

Brookfield Residential Properties General Manager Lee Butterworth said Pinnacle was an integral part of the Portside Wharf community, which was the developers’ signature project in Queensland.

Located on the edge of the Brisbane River atop a lively dining, fashion, health and beauty and entertainment hotspot, Pinnacle at Portside Wharf represents the epitome of luxury waterfront living.

“Pinnacle is the epitome of living at Portside Wharf, with its mix of luxury design, absolute riverfront views, exclusive rooftop resort-style facilities and access to everything the precinct has to offer,” he said.

Potential buyers can now see four, two bedroom apartments and a River Terrace fully furnished - one styled by Coco Republic and four by Gold Coast designer Toni Packer.

“Portside Wharf itself is one of Brookfield Residential Properties’ largest developments Australia-wide.

The displays are located on varying levels to showcase different views of the river and city. Completed in April 2015, Pinnacle boasts an absolute riverfront position that allows for seamless connectivity with the retail precinct, the wharf and the Brisbane River, providing an enviable lifestyle for its residents. With over 75 per cent of apartments in the 15-level building boasting captivating river views, Pinnacle comprises 162 one, two and three bedroom apartments, two-level River Terraces and luxury penthouses, and features a rooftop pool and entertainment area for residents, providing stunning views over the Brisbane River, across the city and to the northern suburbs.

Locals and tourists can now eat, play and stay at Portside Wharf, with Link now offering serviced apartments for short or long stays. Portside Property Services’ Manager Neil Walbuck said the 56sqm apartments in Link were attracting both intrastate and interstate visitors who were keen to take advantage of their prime position. “We are finding that a lot of people want more than a traditional hotel room when they are staying in the city for a night or two and there is also demand for longer term stays of a week or more,” he said. “Providing a one bedroom apartment with living room, dining area, fully equipped kitchen and carpark, Link is a very attractive alternative to traditional hotel accommodation. “Our proximity to the airport and the Brisbane Cruise Terminal is very appealing for a large number of people which, combined with the fact that they can access all that is on offer at Portside Wharf without the need for a vehicle, adds to the appeal.” Brookfield Residential Properties General Manager Lee Butterworth said the apartments appealed to both tourist and business travellers and occupancy levels were high. “Link is a great option for those wanting to take advantage of the unique lifestyle opportunity at Portside Wharf and our proximity to everything Brisbane has to offer,” he said. Link is located at the entrance of Portside Wharf, just six kilometres from the CBD, 15 minutes from the Brisbane Airports and within easy reach of the Gateway Motorway and public transport including the CityCat. The riverside precinct is home to 40 retailers including fine and casual dining, coffee shops, boutique fashion, health and beauty as well as a Dendy Cinema and IGA supermarket.
