Meet Chris and Brenda Dearaugo. Meet Chris and Brenda Dearaugo. The couple has given the IGA at Portside Wharf a revamp, since taking the helm of the store last May, with a range of convenient options to suit the diverse mix of visitors and residents to Portside Wharf. “We’ve employed a full time deli manager to reignite the deli and take away food section of the store,” said Mr Dearaugo. “Given our location, we literally cater for people from all walks of life. Some of the requests we get in here are very unusual for a supermarket – everything from hair straighteners to make-up – and within reason we accommodate. “We have a new fruit and vegetable supplier on board, which sources all of our fresh produce from the markets, and have introduced a range of gourmet products, such as a variety of cheeses, to suit our regular customers and residents of the precinct. “The diverse product mix makes us one of the most unique supermarkets around, but we are all about offering convenience to our customers.” Mr Dearaugo said the business had become a family affair, with the couple’s 21 year old daughter Kirsty-Lee and 18 year old son Joshua working with them part-time while studying at university, and their 11 year old Phoebe also occasionally lending a helping hand. “The staff we have on board are fantastic,” he said. “It is a great team environment and I think that’s reflected in the improved service being offered to our customers.”
