WHAT’S ON

Cirque du Soleil is coming back to the big top at Hamilton and bringing with it its highly-acclaimed show, TOTEM. TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations.

Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.

ON THE HUNT FOR NEW SEASON FASHION Hunt & Gather has done us all a favour by tracking down the latest looks for autumn and bringing them in store early so we can stay ahead of the trends. This year autumn is all about bursts of colour and bold prints. For a guaranteed ‘turn the head’ look, go for the stylised abstract prints in cerise with black and white, as well as cobalt blues. More subtle yet still striking is the soft, warm chocolate and butter swirl prints, which are a new take on the traditional autumn palette. Stock has just arrived from long-time favourites Moss & Spy and Binny, with newcomer Analili offering even more variety for fashionistas. You’ll have to be quick though - there’s only one size in each style, so head in store now to start your autumn wardrobe with some unique, trend-setting threads.

TRANSSEASONAL STYLE NAILED Home-grown designer Mela Purdie knows exactly what Australia’s weather is like and has created a range of clothes to match. These trans-seasonal-times call for long sleeves and pants, but it’s still too warm for jeans and knits. Thank goodness for Mela Purdie, who offers autumn staples in light, flowing fabrics in beautiful patterns like Mousseline pencil stripe and leopard print silks - perfect for the transition into winter. Visit Lieve Boutique and shop the new range now in store.

FROM FLAB TO FLAT ABS WITH STUDIO PILATES

A strong, flat stomach is the holy grail of fitness - yet it’s something that many people struggle to achieve despite countless diets, sit-ups and a strict exercise regime. Studio Pilates says the secret to a six pack is all about how you train - knowing exactly which muscles to exercise is crucial in achieving a toned look. Training needs to target the Transversus Abdominus (TA) - the deepest, most important layer of the stomach - in order to properly strengthen the core. The role of the TA is widely misunderstood, and is overlooked in 95 per cent of gym workouts. Want a sleek, sexy stomach sooner? Studio Pilates has a special introductory offer of six classes for $60 for those who want to learn a range of techniques to activate their TA. Call now on (07) 3268 3300.

TO KEEP YOUR SMILE HEALTHY Our resident dentist, Hamilton Smiles, says tea and coffee can contribute to a dull smile. They say as the weather cools off, we tend to drink more tea and coffee to stay warm. Not only do these things tend to dehydrate our mouths, they can also stain our teeth. Their tip: after drinking tea or coffee, it is a good idea to have a drink of water – that way we can stay hydrated and reduce staining on our teeth. If your teeth are staining or not looking as brilliant as they used to be, Hamilton Smiles has teeth whitening procedures to getting your smile looking its best!

LIVING QUEENSLANDERS SEARCH FOR

HAMILTON APARTMENTS “Hamilton ticks the boxes in terms of location and with Portside Wharf at its heart, its easy to see why it was named as a hotspot.”

HAMILTON HAS MADE THE TOP TEN MOST POPULAR ONLINE SEARCHES FOR APARTMENTS IN QUEENSLAND. THE BLUE CHIP SUBURB MADE NUMBER SEVEN ON REALESTATE.COM.AU’S NEW APARTMENT HOTSPOTS LIST AHEAD OF HIGHGATE HILL, SOUTH BRISBANE AND WEST END.

The list is made up of the most popular Queensland suburbs searched by buyers during the three months to January. Eight of the top ten were in Brisbane. Brisbane also fared well on a national scale, placing sixth on the list of most popular online searches Australia-wide. Brookfield Residential Properties General Manger Lee Butterworth said there was high demand for off-the-plan sales in Brisbane. “Affordability, in comparison to other capital cities, along with strong yields is driving the demand for off-the-plan sales in Brisbane,” he said. “Buyers are looking for areas with infrastructure, retail and dining and so are attracted to the CBD or action-packed areas surrounding the city. “Hamilton ticks the boxes in terms of location and with Portside Wharf at its heart, its easy to see why it was named as a hotspot.”

The most recent Place Advisory Quarterly Unit Report recorded $2.4 billion in off-the-plan sales last year totalling 4128 apartments - a 44 per cent increase on 2013 and almost three times 2012’s figures. The average price was four per cent higher than 2013 at $575,084. Mr Butterworth said Portside Wharf’s latest residential stage, Pinnacle, had sold more than 105 apartments worth more than $90 million. He said Pinnacle was more than 66 per cent sold and construction was set to be complete in the coming weeks. “Pinnacle has appealed to buyers of all ages, particularly owner occupiers from Hamilton and Ascot,” he said. “They already know and love the area and most are looking to downsize from the family home, or upgrade their current apartment to something more luxurious. “Pinnacle’s absolute riverfront position atop a lively retail and dining precinct and with easy access to the CBD, airports, public transport and major roads, makes it one of the best located apartment buildings in South East Queensland. “Buyers are taking advantage of the unique lifestyle on offer at Pinnacle with its access to everything, low maintenance living and luxury features including a rooftop infinity pool and

barbeque area, gymnasium, secure car parking and onsite security.” Mr Butterworth said there had been a spike in sales as Pinnacle neared completion. “As construction progresses, people can really see the quality of what we are creating,” he said. “Pinnacle is built and finished to the highest standards and buyers can now get a real sense of what it would be like to live in such luxury and comfort. “We expect sales to continue to gather momentum as Pinnacle reaches completion and residents start to move in.” The Pinnacle display apartment is now open. Bookings are essential and can be arranged through the sales and information centre.
