THE HISTORY OF

ROCK N ROLL STARS

STRIPES

Written and Compiled by Will Marks “I don’t care what people say, rock ‘n roll is here to stay!” This is a line from the 1958 hit by Danny and the Juniors and at the time no one could have guessed how prophetic this simple lyric would be! Join us for a jam-packed musical evening as we explore the origins of rock ‘n roll from its infancy, which saw jazz and gospel transform into the undeniably infectious sound that became known as rock ‘n roll. This All-American music review highlights it’s greatest pioneers - Chuck Berry, Elvis, the Doo-Wop groups of the 50’s, The Beach Boys and the R&B groups of the 60’s - they were America’s answer to the British Invasion, each generation influencing the next right up to the present day. Rock ‘n roll was born in the USA, and lives and thrives today!

ROBBIE TKACHYK

(TECHNICAL DIRECTOR)

A graduate of the Grant MacEwan Theatre Production program, this is Robbie’s 15th year with Festival Place. Having worked on productions of “My Fair Lady”, “The Wizard of Oz” and “Oliver!”, the annual Christmas musical is always a highlight of the season. He is excited to be involved once again in this year’s production of “Cats”.

KELCI TOOKEY

(MAKE-UP DESIGNER/DANCE CAPTAIN)

Kelci has been performing all her life and been dancing since the age of two. She is currently instructing at Shelley’s Dance Company and enrolled in the RAD Teachers Training program. Kelci is excited to be involved in her 4th production but this time behind the scenes. She is thrilled to be a part of making “CATS” come to life.

SHELLEY TOOKEY (DIRECTOR) Shelley Tookey is the Artistic Director and co-owner, along with her husband Wayne , of Shelley’s Dance Company in Edmonton for the past 45 years. Shelley has choreographed and directed many musicals over the past 12 years. Musicals such as “White Christmas”, “Oliver”, “Kiss Me Kate”, Wizard of Oz”, “Annie Get Your Gun” “Crazy For You”, “Sound of Music”, just to name a few. “Cats” is one of Shelley’s favourite musicals and was a huge challenge, but with such a passionate cast and production team, and a lot of hard work, she believes that the artists in this show have all grown in so many ways. It has been a privilege and a blessing to have been part of this production. Please sit back and enjoy!
