The Give ‘Em Hell boys

July 1, 2017 | Family www.theemeralds.net

July 5, 2017 | country www.giveemhellboys.com

Local favourites, The Emeralds take to the stage to open our 2017 Qualico Patio season. Renowned worldwide for their hit “The Bird Dance” the group has entertained audiences throughout New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, London, Trinidad, the United States and Canada. Since their formation in 1970, they have recorded 29 albums (six gold, two platinum, and one double platinum) and have won numerous awards and citations including an induction into the City of Edmonton's Cultural Hall of Fame. Whether you feel like sitting back or getting up and dance, bring the family out this Canada Day and enjoy the music of The Emeralds!

Bringing a Rock N Roll swagger, an “us against them” punk rock attitude and old fashioned country soul to a highly commercialized and stale sound has reminded us about the power that was in the roots of this genre. The live show stands above all else with the party atmosphere and high energy; it’s impossible not to dance, toe tap and have a great time at their shows. With positive reviews following in the wake of their performances, which have spanned the globe, The Give ‘Em Hell Boys are bringing back the days of Cash, Williams, and Jennings.

Second Act TBA

Jonah Blacksmith

July 12, 2017 | Folk www.jonahblacksmith.com Jonah Blacksmith, a seven piece band from northern Denmark has been turning heads in Europe for years. Their powerful stories are told through brilliant songwriting and feature beautiful, soulful harmonies. Although they are distinctly Danish, they have a universal sound that could be described as Americana; embellishing their songs with lap steel guitar, mandolin and no less than two drumkits. The dynamic range of the seven-piece band is wide and goes from conversation-like passages to bombastic orchestral parts with walls of sound and energy. They take Scandinavian folk traditions and turn them into something international.

Post Script

July 12, 2017 | Singer/Songwriter www.postscriptmusic.com Post Script is a relationship, a constant exchange. Considered to be one of Edmonton’s hidden gem bands (CBC.ca), the distinct flavour of Post Script is coming out of hiding and steadily finding an audience. Their debut album, If Not For You embodies the traditional Canadian oscillation between urban living and rural retreat, while also capturing the spirit of the nation’s linguistic divide. Post Script are young, charming musicians, writing and performing songs like old souls for modern times.

All shows subject to change. 03

He is currently based in Edmonton, Alberta where his considerable fan base has learned what the rest of the country is about to find out: Jay Gilday owns one of the most arresting and important voices in Canadian music today.

This Way North

July 26, 2017 | Pop/Rock www.thiswaynorth.com Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, guitar/ drums duo This Way North perform a live show that leaves audiences with something powerful and different. patio series - august Scott Cook and the Second Chances

August 2, 2017 | Singer/Songwriter www.scottcook.net Edmonton's Scott Cook has distilled the stories collected over a decade of near-incessant touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse. His fourth release, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track "Pass It Along" won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him "one of Canada's most inspiring and imaginative storytellers". Cook is one of the hardest-working troubadours on the road today, averaging over 160 shows and a dozen festivals every year since 2007, and currently touring his sixth independent release, Further Down the Line.

Dirt Road Angels August 2, 2017 | Country www.dirtroadangels.ca

From the dirt road to the main stage, the Dirt Road Angels are creating quite the buzz! The seasoned singer/songwriters, consisting of Dahlia Wakefield, Karen Claypool, Danita Lynn, and Shila Marie, have released two albums and were recently nominated for ACMA Group of the Year. They have showcased at CCMA week and have enjoyed opening for some top country acts including Kira Isabella, High Valley, Doc Walker, The Road Hammers, Colin Raye, Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin, Aaron Pritchett and more. Their enthusiasm, charisma and camaraderie onstage is contagious, and their harmonies truly angelic.

Joel Fafard

August 9, 2017 | Blues http://joelfafard.com/wp Award-winning guitarist Joel Fafard sings with the sexy, sandpapered-sounding vocal style of the new generation bluesman. His performances are as authentic as those of a Beale Street busker but infused with a touch of contemporary urban attitude. When he lets rip a solo on his resonator guitar, it’s easy to hear how he once earned both a JUNO nomination and a Western Canadian Music Award. As he closes in on 20 years as a professional musician, Joel Fafard has traveled down several distinct paths but regardless of which direction he goes in, his fans seem happy to follow.

Marc Beaudin Trio

August 9, 2017 | Instrumental www.marcbeaudin.ca Originally from Sept-Iles in Quebec, Marc Beaudin is a well- known guitarist in Alberta’s music scene. He is the driving force behind Edmonton's All-Stars party band, The Retrofitz, and as a freelancer player Marc also performs regularly at Sabor Divino Restaurant. His latest CD An evening at Sabor features his trio: Luis Tovar - Percussion, Mike Lent - Acoustic bass and Marc playing nylon string guitar. For his performance on the patio, Marc will perform a mixture of Brazilian jazz and flamenco compositions.

patio series - august The Henry Girls

August 16, 2017 | Celtic www.thehenrygirls.com “…somewhere along the way the girls have developed an innate musical ability that defies belief.” – InDublin (IRL) The Henry Girls are three sisters from Co.Donegal, Ireland. Their music is diverse and eclectic with a unique rootsy sound that blends their native traditional Irish folk music with hints of Americana, bluegrass and blues. They are renowned for their fine close harmonies and musical arrangements, and have been likened to such great musical acts as Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Dixie Chicks and The Be Good Tanyas. As one of the most talked about folk/roots acts from Ireland, they have captivated audiences on worldwide stages throughout Germany, America, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Austria and the UK.

Kobo Town August 16, 2017 World www.kobotown.com Founded and fronted by émigré Trinidadian songwriter Drew Gonsalves, Kobo Town’s music has been variously described as “an intoxicating blend of lilting calypsonian wit, dancehall reggae and trombone-heavy brass” (Guardian) and a “unique, transnational composite of rhythm, poetry and activist journalism.”(Exclaim!) The JUNO-nominated group has brought their distinct calypso-inspired sound to audiences across the world, delivering an indomitable energy that has earned them a considerable following far beyond the niche of world music enthusiasts and calypso fans.

Peter Turland and the Rental Cats Kimberley MacGregor

August 30, 2017 | Pop/Rock www.rentalcats.weebly.com

Weaving seamlessly between blues, folk and rock, her common threads are strength, vulnerability and badassery, always sizzling with soul. Kimberley MacGregor has been awarded Edmonton Music Awards Female Artists of Year two years running since 2015. Her deep passion for music gave her the courage to break away from the safety of a stable bank manager position and launch herself into the unknowable. Her music, flowing between blues, folk and rock, dares us to explore that space by her side.

Pete Turland is known on both sides of the Atlantic as a rockabilly blues guitarist, vocalist and upright bassist. With a career that spans over 30 years Pete has been nominated for JUNO, Genie, CMA, Maple Blues and West Coast music awards. He has performed at nearly every major folk and blues festival in Canada, as well as festivals all over the world. Pete will be slinging his guitar at this performance alongside Rockin’ Ron Horton (guitar), Chris Grapel (bass) and Greg Lintz (drums) – the Rental Cats. Dust off your dancin’ shoes as Pete Turland and the Rental Cats take you on a voyage to yesteryear for a good, old fashioned, Rock & Roll party.
