Dit volg nadat ‘n berig Maandag in die dagblad Beeld verskyn het waarin gesê word die DA ondersoek aantygings van wanbesteding en die misbruik van partygeld. Van die bewerings wat spruit uit ‘n forensiese verslag wat in Oktober verlede jaar afgehandel is, is glo dat Terblanche van haar persoonlike mediese verslae op die DA se rekening met DHL na Brittanje gestuur het, skoonheidsmiddels ten bedrae

Victor Boqo Four toddlers who were playing next to the Promosa Dam were shocked to see a baby floating in the water on May 10. The Ikageng police were immediately informed, and they found the baby girl inside a red plastic bag and co-

vered in a pink towel. The Ikageng police correspondent, const. Kelebogile Trom, confirmed the incident. She said, “On the police arrival, the baby was a stillborn with the placenta.” According to Trom, a case of concealment of birth is being investigated, and at this

stage no arrest has been made. Trom pleaded with the community to contact the Ikageng police with any information that may lead to the arrest. Something fishy about burglary at Ventersdorp municipality Victor Boqo While the country was preparing to go to the polls, the Ventersdorp municipality experienced a burglary on May 5. Officials were greeted by the burgled facility when they opened the traffic department offices on Monday morning. According to the provincial police correspondent, Capt. Pelonomi Makau, the police are investigating a housebreaking and theft case after an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen at the municipality. Makau said, “It is alleged that the

thief (or thieves) broke in from a window at the municipal side hall to gain entry to the traffic department offices. The municipal safe was prised open and a fire arm was also stolen.” The police correspondent added that at this stage no arrest has been made and the matter is still under investigation. When contacted, the Ventersdorp municipal manager, Joel Makade, stated: “Since the municipality are busy with its

Who will win Zuma’s heart as the next North West Premier?

With the elections done and dusted, all that is left now is to elect the provincial head of state. The decision to elect the premier is in the hands of the ANC president, Jacob Zuma. Currently names doing the rounds to be elected in the hot seat are Mr Supra Mahumapelo, the provincial ANC chairperson and the current premier, Ms Thandi Modise. Modise replaced the former premier, Maureen Modiselle who only served a year before she was removed from office in 2010 by the ANC. Mahumapelo is number one on the ANC provincial legislature list while Modise is number 5. If Mahumapelo will be elected, he will be the second man to serve as the premier. The first man to lead the province was Popo Molefe in 1994. He served his

premiership term until 2004. Ever since, the province has been led by women including Edna Molewa, who is now the minister of water affairs. The favoured candidate is expected to provide political leadership and bring stability in the North West. For the past few months prior to the elections this province has been rocked by violent service delivery protests in areas such as Bloemhof, Christiana, Schweizer-Reneke and Khunotswane, including the mining strike in Rustenburg. When speaking to the Herald, Dakota Legoete, the ANC provincial secretary said, “The PEC (Provincial Executive Committee) will sit over the weekend to nominate three names for possible premier candidate; and those names will be forwarded to the NEC (National Executive Committee) of the ANC for consideration.” When asked by the Herald which na-

mes be nominated, he refused to comment. When electing a premier candidate, the ANC has to consider its 50/50 gender policy as all its provincial leaders are men in all nine provinces. Prof. Andrè Duvenhage, North West University’s political analyst at the Potchefstroom campus, predicts that Supra Mahumapelo is highly likely to be the next premier as he has a lot of support within the party in the province, but he may not be the choice due to the gender policy. Readers will only know the name of the next premier when the legislature resumes on May 21. According to the provincial legislature secretary, Ms Mamokoena Gaoretelelwe, the sitting of the legislature next week Wednesday will be convened by the Judge President where the legislature members will elect the premier, the speaker and deputy speaker. All

other members will also be sworn in. After the premier has been elected, he or she will then announce members of the executive committee.

ANC loses support base in this year’s general elections

Victor Boqo Numbers don’t lie, and the voters have spoken at the polls during the fifth National and Provincial Elections on May 7. Despite the ANC’s overwhelming victory in the North West, resulting in 6739 percent, its support base has dropped as compared to the 2009 elections in which the party received 7289 percent. Meanwhile, in Potchefstroom alone 93469 voters registered to vote for this year’s elections in all 26 wards, however, only 70581 had voted, with 1064 spoilt votes. This means that 22888 voters didn’t participate to vote. The results are as follows: The ANC obtained 36555 votes (52,58%), which is a drop of 3405 votes as compared to 2009. The DA received 21621 votes (31,10%), which is an increase of votes as compared to 2009 elections in which they received 16067 (24,00%). Cope performed very badly with 288 votes (0,41 %) as compared to its previous results of 4695 (7,01%) in 2009. The FF+ had 4035 votes (5,80%) which also is a slight increase; in 2009, they received 3635 (5,43%). As for the EFF they went home with 5480 votes (7,88 %). This year’s election was highly contested with new parties such as Agang SA under its leader, Mamphele Ramphele, and the new kid on the block, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), which defected from the ANC and which is led by the former ANC Youth League president, Julius Malema. COPE welcomes VF Plus 13% groei en “voter punishment” setelwins in the North West

The provincial cope’s spokesperson, Kenny Maduna, stated that they welcome the voter’s punishment during the recent provincial and national elections. Cope dropped by 1, 3 million votes, nationally, as compared with the 2009 results. Maduna, in his media statement, said, “As cope we welcome the results and congratulate all the political parties that have gained more votes for broad national and provincial seats, and most significantly congratulate the new party, Economic Freedom Fighters. We are a modern, democratic organisation and respect the constitution as the supreme law of the land.” The spokesperson further commented, saying, “The drop of votes shows we didn’t do much to focus on the mandate we were given as an organisation on our inception back in 2008, but all will be corrected as we go back to the drawing board and do thorough introspection of this outcome. We believe that our status was negati-

vely presented in public domains by media and we are utterly determined to take responsibility and any blame as the leadership of the organisation.” The mandate is still intact, explained the cope spokesperson, indicating that since South Africa deserves a better government the party will go back to the voters and give them that hope they need; “and the truths that they need to hear on our status as an organisation, as we start to rebuild our party from this point. We continue to fight for a better life and will not end our vision by this outcome.” The key focal area, according to Maduna, will be going back and rebuilding strong, reliable branches at the party’s voting district bases. In response to the members of Cope who rejoined the ANC at the last moment, the spokesperson has this to say: “We must say farewell to all of those members parted ways with us on the eve of elections and we wish them the best wherever they are.”

Juanita Terblanche, DA’s constituency leader says the DA showed a growth of 56,4% on its 2009 results while the ANC lost more than 4 000 or 11% of its 2009 support. She says the sharp decline in ANC support in this municipality, evident from it securing only 51,8% of the support in last week’s election, confirms its downward spiral as displayed in the Tlokwe by-elections in 2013. The latest results are very encouraging for the DA, making the possibility of pushing the ANC further down to below 50% or even 45% a realistic goal in the 2016 municipal elections. The DA will,

with the assistance of our supporters and the neglected Tlokwe community, do its utmost to achieve this,” she concluded.

The DA is elated with the results

Die party het nou verteenwoordigers in Gauteng, Vrystaat, Noordwes en vier setels in die Parlement “Ek wil die ou en nuwe VF Plus kiesers bedank vir hulle ondersteuning tydens hierdie verkiesing. Hulle het die VF Plus bly ondersteun, nieteenstaande ’n intensiewe DA propaganda-veldtog wat met radio-advertensies en pamflette spesifiek op die VF Plus gemik was. Vanweë die finansiële ongelykhede van Suid-Afrikaanse verkiesingsveld-

togte, wat deur staatsfondse veroorsaak word, is dit baie moeilik vir kleiner partye om op gelyke voet met ander partye mee te ding en op sulke propaganda te antwoord. Daarom is ek dankbaar vir die groot groei wat die party getoon het,” het dr. Pieter Mulder, VF Plus leier gesê. Wêreldwyd is die politieke tendens dat minderheidsregte en die beskerming van minderhede meer en meer op die voorgrond tree. Suid-Afrika sal daardie werklikheid nie vryspring nie. Dit verklaar waarom die VF Plus gegroei het en vir baie jare steeds ’n politieke rol sal speel. Soos die DA groter word, is dit onafwendbaar dat die party sy klem na die behartiging van die meerderheid se belange sal verskuif en noodwendig minderhede se belange ondergeskik sal moet stel. Dit gaan in die toekoms meer en meer ruimte skep vir partye soos die VF Plus om minderheidsbelange in die politiek te behartig.

Die lesersfoto oor die afskuwelike vuil toilet by die McArthur atletiekstadion is in skerp teenstelling met die baie mooi oorgedoende atletiekbaan waarop Potchefstroom nog altyd baie trots was. Die McArthur-stadion is in ’n stadium beskou as een van die beste bane in die land en straks kan dit nou na die opgradering weer so wees. Dit is daarom jammer dat ’n gesig soos daardie vuil toilet toeskouers in die gesig moes staar. Dié toilet was weliswaar agter ‘n toegesluite traliedeur maar duidelik sigbaar en die reuk was so erg dat ons leser nie anders kon as om op dié gemors af te kom nie. Die vraag is net hoe op aarde dit toegelaat word dat so iets gebeur by so ’n hoë profiel byeenkoms, maar eintlik enige byeenkoms? Wie ookal verantwoordelik is vir die instandhouding van die toilette, wat waarskynlik die stadsraad is, kan tog nie so iets duld nie. Wat help dit om die baan pragtig te laat oordoen en dan die beeld van die baan en die stad afbreek met so ’n gemors? Mens kan ook maar dieselfde vraag vra oor toiletgeriewe by die Dam ontspanningsoord. Lesers het ook al vir ons foto’s gestuur van die toestand waarin die toilette soms daar is. Ook die toestand waarin die terrein dikwels op ‘n Saterdag- of Sondagoggend is nadat daar die vorige aand lekker partytjie gehou is. Die verskoning dat dit die publiek is wat toilette so besmeer en vuilgoed strooi gaan ongelukkig nie af nie. As dit die bedryf is waarin jy is moet jy dit kan hanteer en bestuur. Om toilette in openbare plekke skoon te hou is ‘n uitdaging, maar aanvaar asseblief die uitdaging.

M iss TTeen een S Aw ants tto o ssend end Miss SA wants p ostcards ffrom rom TTurkey urkey postcards Cheryl Botha It wasn’t long ago when the young sports and academic achiever from Laerskool Baillie Park stepped nervously onto the ramp in her “up-ups” (high heels) and wowed audiences. Just months later she was wearing the Miss Petite Teen Face of South Africa 2014 crown. Jordan Durand (13) loves the outdoors and being active. She seems to have a charmed life but, at the age of 3, she lost both parents in a tragic helicopter accident. Living with a loving granny and big brother, Dylan, she has learned that it takes determination and guts to get where you want to be. “Oprah says the big secret in life is that there is no secret. Whatever your goal, you are able to achieve it if you are willing to work,” she says over a plate of ‘slap tjips’ at Wimpy. Jordan has a 94 percent average in academics and is part of the provincial netball team.

She also competes, and does well in, athletics. Her latest achievement on the national catwalk has added one more gold star to her CV. “I believe that young children are not show ponies, and should not be exposed to the pressure of modelling,” she says. “But as you get older, you learn important life skills on the ramp. You learn that not everyone can be the winner, and you learn to accept defeat graciously. I think you are ready for that sort of thing when you are about ten or eleven,” she says. Her grandmother, Jenny du Preez, remembers her taking part in the Model of the Year pageant at Emerald Casino when she was just seven years old. “Even though she won 1st princess, I realised the pressure that goes with it isn’t good for little ones. We decided to wait until she was ready,” she says. Jordan started modelling classes at Glamour Models early in 2013 and was one of four girls chosen to take part in the regionals in Klerksdorp in February 2014. From there it was on to the finals in Pretoria between 1 and 4 May. Jordan describes the days before the gala event on Sunday as exhausting and exciting all in one. In some ways it could also be compared to army boot camp.

“Grooming is very important and every day we had an inspection of our fingernails, hair and everything else,” she says. The girls were constantly under the beady eye of the judges. “Luckily I am confident and determined. I enjoy challenges and I stick to the plan, so I could handle it,” she says. Jordan says she has had a love affair with pretty things and high heels since she was tiny, but admits that her aching feet put her endurance to the test. It was really worth it in the end. The petite junior school prefect took home the titles of best interview, best ramp model and the coveted crown. With this internationally-recognised achievement behind her, Jordan expects it to be much easier to find sponsorships for her favourite charities – animals and children. She is already involved with Rejoy Nursery School in Ikageng and has helped collect teddies and toys for underprivileged children. She has included motivational talks in her jampacked diary for the next year. Depending on sponsorship, Jordan is hoping to represent her school and country in the Miss World Competition in Turkey in September. “I am honoured to be a role model for my peers, and I would love to take it to the next levels,” she beams.

20 jaar gelede in die Herald Insameling vir ‘kerk’ onwettig, skryf Herald 20 jaar terug Op die voorblad van die Herald van 13 Mei 1994 verskyn ’n berig dat die polisie bekommerd is oor die groot aantal vals kollektelyste, van meestal onbekende kerke, wat onder die neuse van inwoners gedruk word. Die stadsraad het die probleem ook destyds bevestig en gesê slegs geregistreerde welsyns- en liefdadigheidsorganisasies kry toestemming vir sulke insamelings en dit is gewoonlik van ’n sperdatum voorsien. Ook op die voorblad word berig hoe drie rowers met sowat R25 000 kontant weggekom het nadat hulle ’n onderneming in die nywerheidsgebied beroof het. Dit het vroeg die oggend gebeur en een van die mans was gewapen.

In nog ’n berig word inwoners gerus gestel dat ’n “vermiste” skoolkind toe nooit weg was nie. Die kind is as vermis aangemeld toe sy nie op ’n bus was wat vanaf Potchefstroom by Johannesburg aangekom het nie. Dit het later geblyk dat die ma, wat die kind by die bus moes oplaai, laat was en dat die kind toe saam met vriende gery het. Mei-maand is beslis nie vroeg vir veldbrande nie. Over the past decade the annual Winter Knights campaign has successfully seen the collection and distribution of blankets, warm clothing and hot meals to thousands. “In addition, it brings hope and smiles that warm the hearts of every life touched by Winter Knights whether it’s on the receiving or giving end of the campaign,” explains Leon Garbade, President of Round Table Southern Africa.

This year the Winter Knights want to extend the reach of the campaign beyond the borders of Round Table. They want to invite local sport, social and community organisations to take up the challenge and join them in collecting and distributing blankets and warm clothing for shelters, old age homes, orphanages and other deserving recipients. “We want to create a fun challenge between community organisations so that the joy of being a Winter Knight can be experienced during the months of June and July.” Round Table 47 (Potch) is one of 160 Tables throughout South Africa that are planning a variety of exciting fundraising events to collect blankets,

Cosy toes for learners this winter

Thanks to a partnership between various donors, children from Fikadibeng Primary School will be able to go to school in shoes this winter. Mr Dewald van Breda from PVC Compounders, in co-operation with other providers, agreed to provide approximately 1000 pairs of school shoes to learners at regional farm schools. PVC manufactured the shoe uppers while Eugasen Reddy from Novitashoes provided the soles. The first batch were handed over at Fikadibeng on 9, to the delight of all learners present. Also present were Mr H Motara, district director of education (Dr Kenneth Kaunda Municipality) and Ms Tina Scholtz, chairperson of the education action committee of the Potchefstroom Tlokwe Chamber of Commerce. Another consignment was delivered to Mponeng Primary School in Viljoenskroon later that morning. .

Juffrou Carli Viljoen het toe besluit dat hierdie kunswerke iets moet verdien en het besluit om die hele gesinsaksie in ’n kompetisie te verander. Die mate waarin groentee katechiene geabsorbeer word en beskikbaar gemaak word op ’n spesifieke plek in die liggaam word beïnvloed deur die manier waarop ons dit inneem byvoorbeeld deur ’n teedrankie of ’n kapsule. Hoe beter dit geabsorbeer word hoe groter die kans vir maksimum gesondheidsvoordeel. Die doel van hierdie studie is om ’n vergelyking te tref tussen die biobeskikbaarheid van drie produkte, gebaseer op verskillende afleweringstelsels. Die studie is goedgekeur deur die Navorsingsetiekkomitee van die NWU en in ooreenstemming met die Helsinki-verklaring (2000, 2002: wat die belange van vrywilligers wat inwillig om aan navorsing deel te neem, beskerm). Kompetisie groot sukses

CrossFit Potchefstroom het onlangs ‘n fiksheidskompetisie gehou waaraan sowat 80 atlete deelgeneem het. Die atlete van vier verskillende CrossFit gimnasiums is aan ‘n intense 15 minuut-lange oefensessie onderwerp. Gedurende die 15 minute word die atleet op alle vlakke van fiksheid getoets, waaronder krag, spoed, ratsheid, akkuraatheid, uithouvermoë en stamina. Die byeenkoms was ‘n groot sukses, met ‘n kop-telling van ongeveer 200 mense. Van die deelnemers wat pryse ontvang het. George Rex(52), the Potchefstromer that was laid lame due to a massive stroke nearly a decade ago is now a world class paracyclist in Europe. The advance party of the South African Para-cycling team, which is scheduled to compete in a series of UCI races in Italy during May, arrived in Milan on 30 April. The riders and team support then travelled southwards to Italy’s Lombardy region, where they are currently based in the small town of Pontevico. The foothills of the Alps, to the north, are still snow-covered and make any breeze from that quarter quite chilly; however, there are signs of spring in the air, and also clear signs that the European racing season that is now underway. Several of the (able body) pro cycling support teams are currently established in the Lombardy and Brescia regions of Italy, preparing for the arrival of the world’s best teams that will compete in the country’s famous Giro d’Italia shortly. Equally important, adding to the local cycling buzz is the concentration of Para-cyclists from around the world, who are racing this weekend in the town of Verolanuova. Saturday’s C3 men’s road race was without doubt the most exciting of the morning, with no quarter asked and none given by any of the competing riders. With the race maintained at a blistering pace, South Africa’s Craig Ridgard rode incredibly well. He never let the lead group get away and in his challenge for a podium finish eventually claimed the bronze medal. Ridgard proved that where natural athletic talent allows, a first-time competitor in an international event can make it onto the podium. His achievement brings the South African medal tally to ‘threefrom-three-from-one (the road race event)’ – thus far, probably the best ratio of medals won to size of team entered for the Verolanuova Cup

Noordwes en Potchefstroom se Jan Prinsloo se naam as Rugby League speler en sportadministrateur sal vir baie jare lank onthou word. Hy is pas deur die SA Rugby League Raad vereer met ‘n trofee wat na hom vernoem is en waarom provinsiale leagues-panne voortaan jaarliks sal meeding. Prinsloo is ook die eerste league rugbyspeler wie se naam as legende in die Suid-Afrikaanse heldekamer verskyn. Jan Prinsloo is ‘n oud-joernalis wie in sy jonger dae ook die blou trui van Noord-Transvaal oor die kop getrek het. Hy is internasionaal in rugby league-kringe bekend. Hy het in 1964 Springbokkleure vir

Leauge ontvang en het onlangs, na meer as 50 jaar in dié sportkode, die tuig neergelê as vise-president van die SA Rugby League. Hy is egter nog die adviseur vir die president van Rugby League Suid-Afrika, mnr. Kobus Botha en vise-voorsitter van die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Kanonniersvereniging. Jan is tans die skakelbeampte vir Suid-Afrikaanse Meestersatletiek. Vincent Mofokeng Die NWU-Junior Swemklub het op 6 Mei hul algemene jaarvergadering en prysuitdelingseremonie gehou. Gerhard Zandberg, voormalige Olimpiese swemkampioen, was die gasspreker by hierdie spoggeleentheid en het ook die NWU se sertifikate van erkenning aan swemmers asook trofeë vir besondere prestasies oorhandig. Zandberg het hierna gesellig met klublede en hul ouers saamgekuier en van sy geheime en strategieë met die swemmers gedeel. Hy is betrokke by die klub se winterprogram en beoog om ‘n paar swemklinieke in Potchefstroom aan te bied. Swemmers wat die afgelope seisoen uitsonderlik presteer het is: Reynard Rossouw (beste junior seun), Angeleah Moss (beste junior dogter), Charles Williams (beste senior seun) en Nadia Blaauw (beste senior dogter). Van Zyl Brand is as die beste swemmer van die klub aangewys. Jack Cameron het die wisseltrofee ontvang vir beste tye verbeter en Nadia Blaauw was die swemmers se keuse as swemmer van die jaar. Swemmers wat op Swem SA se Top 10 en Top 20 ranglyste verskyn, het ook toekennings ontvang, naamlik Antaché Reyneke, Nadia Blaauw, Reynard Rossouw en Van Zyl Brand (almal onder die top 20) asook Samantha Blaauw (Top 10). NWU-Pukke klop UJ Piet de Jager Die eerste span van ddie NWU-Puk Rugbyinstituut het Saterdag ‘n naelskraap oorwinning oor UJ behaal, die eerste keer in vier seisoene dat die Pukke vir UJ op klubvlak kon klop (Varsitybeker uitgesluit). Wat die oorwinning merkwaardig maak, is dat afrigter Hannes Esterhuizen sy span moet saamstel uit wat oor is na die bykans 45 beste spelers by die Luiperds betrokke is. Dit sal dalk later beter gaan wanneer die Luiperdgroep vasgemaak is. Die Pukke was teen rustyd 9-3 voor na Justin Botha met twee straf-

doele en ‘n skepdoel geslaag het. UJ het gaan druk en na die kroonskop was die telling 12-10. Francois Nel het vir die Puk gaan druk, Botha verdoel en die Pukke loop 19-10 voor. Daphe’s heart motors with passion

Vincent Mofokeng There’s a slight twist to Daphe Lang’s winning streak in the motorbiking arena - but I’m told that a person is driven by many things. For the good-looking Daphe, it certainly is her motorbike. To get the technical things out of the way, Daphe raced a brilliant first place at Pakisa this past Sunday and won both the Motor Rider Academy (MRA) Ladies cup and also the MRA Super Sport Mens Cup, but was disqualified for riding too fast as this was a lower class and given a second place. The seventeen year old has more to her than what meets the eye. Daphe’s father built up a broken Yamaha R1 motorbike for her 16th birthday that she received with great surprise, not just from her but all her friends also. At the end of 2012 her mother passed on and her father took her to the track as a way of bonding with his daughter after the passing of their beloved. First time on the track, Daphe raced a whopping 2.48 seconds, which is surprisingly a C-class time; but at the end of the day she raced a 2.18 seconds time, which is even greater, a B- class time - all in one day. After her race, the popular-amongstbikers, Craig Zacks, encouraged her to start racing because of her super-fast ability, it is rare to accomplish such speed in such a short period. Daphe is now a very passionate rider. The journey certainly didn’t end there for Daphe as only two weeks after ta-

king Craig’s advice, she was phenomenally moved up to the A- class. “I was super proud when I got my A stick,” Daphe said with a smile. Daphe was later invited by African Bank to do the 24-hour race with the Racing Sisters at Delmas Red Star Raceway, which is mostly dominated by men; however, she again went for the challenge. The racing sisters took 23rd place out of the 42 all-men teams that were participating, making them the best SA women riders in SA. This young lady bubbles with passion and speaks with so much enthusiasm and passion about her racing experience. Just a fun fact - the motorbike riding lady has a phobia of crossing the road... Afrigter Robert du Preez se eerste tree in vanjaar se Curriebeker-seisoen begin Saterdag in Windhoek wanneer die Luiperds in ‘n vriendskaplike wedstryd teen Namibië speel. Namibië is dalk nie die sterkste teenstand beskikbaar nie, maar daar moet onthou word dat die buurland voorberei om aan die Wêreldbekertoernooi deel te neem. Die span wat aangekondig is bevat ‘n goeie mengsel van Varsitybeker-spelers en ervare spelers wat in die Vodacom-reeks gespeel het. Daar is nog nie ‘n kaptein aangewys nie, maar daar is wel twee ervare leiers in die groep: die Vodacom kapteins Stoof Bezuidenhout en Morné Hanekom. Hanekom se insluiting op agsteman het die Pukke se Juan Language na die kant van die skrum laat skuif. Ryk Welgemoed in die derde losvoorspeler. Die skakelpaar boesem nie baie vertroue nie en ervaring kom kort: Dillon Smit is skrumskakel en Rhyno Smith die losskakel. Die Luiperds het baie spoed in die ag-

Daar is nog een vriendskaplike wedstryd vir die Luiperds voor die kwalifiserende rondtes vir die Curriebeker in Junie begin en wel volgende Saterdag op Olënpark teen die Griffons. Die volledige span is: Mahuza, Jacobs, Engelbrecht, Tossel, Obi, Smith, Smit, Hanekom, Welgemoed, Language, Robbertse, Kruger, Bezuidenhout, Oberholzer en Mafela. Die manne op die bank is Marius Fourie, John Roy Jenkinson, Danie Jordaan, Phillip de Wet, Johny Welthagen, Rowayne Beukman, Lucien Cupido, Joe Smith, Roby Labuschagne, Stairs Mhlongo, Sergio Torrens. HTS wen vierde Clash teen Boys High Vincent Mofokeng HTS het Saterdag die negende Classic Clash tussen hulself en Boys High met 19-12 gewen. Die vuurwerke het begin met ‘n pragvertoning deur die trompoppies en die goue stem van Basetsana Kolwane, wat die volkslied gesing het. Dit was al sagte kant van die kragmeting wat daarna gevolg het. Van die afskop af het beide spanne dit nie maklik gemaak om deur die gapings te breek nie en na ‘n lang gesukkel het die sewe flank van Boys High, Siabonga Hlatswayo, eerste bloed getrek om sy span op die puntebord te sit. Dit is deur Katleho Thabanchu verdoel om die telling 7-0 te maak. Daar was groot skrums waartydens Boys High somtyds deur HTS se voorspelers opgedruk is. Tien minute voor halftyd het Boys High se agtsteman, Thabiso Msiza, deur die lyn gebreek om sy span 12-0 te laat voorloop, maar net voor rustyd het HTS deur Boys High se verdediging gebreek en HTS senter, Alex Meyer, het onder die pale gaan druk. Losskakel en kaptein, Katlego Leokaoke, het verdoel. In die tweede helfte het die wedstryd in HTS se guns gedraai. Vleuel Ollie Nokana het ‘n gaping gevind en Boys High se verdediging geklop om vanaf sy eie helfte na hul doellyn te nael. Hy was te vinnig vir die verdediging en het onder die pale gedruk. Leokaoke het weer verdoel. Net elf minute in die tweede helfte gaan druk HTS haker Kagiso Tshakane in Boys High se hoek om HTS 19-12 die wenpunte te gee. HTS het sodoende 2014 se Classic Clash ingepalm om vir die vierde keer sedert 2006 dié stryd te wen.

Nog medaljes vir Puk-atletiek Piet de Jager Die NWU-Pukke se atletiekklub het 10 medaljes ingeoes tydens die SA Ope atletiekkampioenskap wat verlede naweek in Potch op die “nuwe” Puk-McArthur plaasgevind het. Atlete van oral het aan die byeenkoms deelgeneem en daar was atlete van oral in Afrika. Die Pukke se voorslag naelloper, Melissa Hewitt , het gewys dat sy bykans nie haar gelyke het nie en het koningin gekraai met haar heel beste tyd nog in die 100m (11.56). Sy het ook die 200m gewen (23.70) Verdienstelike tweede plekke is behaal deur Janike Kotze (Spiesgooi: 48.79),

Sunelle Coetzee (3000m H: 13:16,69) en Nanette Stapelberg (Hamergooi: 54.74). Bronsmedaljes het gegaan aan: Sane van Zyl (SG: 48.00), Hardus Maritz (400n H: 50.52: sy beste tyd ooit), Christo Krause (HS: 2.06), Marco Yzelle (DS: 13.70) en Marne Minnaar (HG: 44.37) *In Doha in Katar het Sunette Viljoen haar buitelandse seisoen afgesit met ‘n puik wêreldklas 64.23 vir ‘n 3e plek in die vroue spiesgooi. Andre Olivier het reisprobleme gehad maar tog sy beste buitenshuise tyd van die seisoen in die 800m opgestel toe hy in die 7e plek klaargemaak het in 1:45.39.
