KMP’s Special Global Advisor, Climate Change & Sustainability “With the advances made at the UN climate change conference in Durban, we are heading in a direction in which technological development becomes a key component of global efforts to combat climate change. The new commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, its market mechanisms and the Green Climate Fund are well placed to contribute to global deployment of climate mitigation and adaptation technologies. Clean energy investments hit a record-setting €185 billion in 2010, a 30 percent increase over 2009 figures, primarily led by China, Germany and the United States. Given a right framework, these figures are expected to rise rapidly, with the majority to come from private investors. The TOUR2012EUROPE series of green business exhibitions is an important initiative to help business, government and investors get down to the business of making clean technology work.”
Tour2012Europe - is the largest green technology tour that will visit 14 EU countries from June to November 2012. Presenting climaterelated communications and activities for local citizens, business-to-business and business to government.

“An awareness campaign as TOUR2012EUROPE is helping to put a positive focus on the climate change agenda, and what can be done locally to reduce CO2 emissions. I am pleased that TOUR2012EUROPE is a long term event, conducted every second year until 2020 including all 27 EU countries. Hence, we maintain our focus on the important climate agenda. With the upcoming Danish EU Presidency and the government’s ambitious climate targets TOUR2012EUROPE represents an ideal platform for achieving broad exposure of the Green Denmark to citizens and decision makers within businesses and policy throughout Europe.”
“This is exactly what we need. Such an initiative helps move the agenda forward on all fronts, including on research and education.

Combating climate change is a top priority for the EU
It is very easy to participate in TOUR2012EUROPE As a partner you will receive:
One goal, lots of actions! Global warming is one of the biggest challenges the world is faced with today. Unless we act quickly to change the way we use and produce energy, the damage could be irreversible. Reining in climate change carries a cost, but doing nothing will be far more expensive in the long run. Moreover, investing in the green technologies that cut emissions will also create jobs and boost the economy.
2008, including ambitious targets for 2020. With this policy the EU hopes to set Europe on the right track - towards a sustainable future with a low-carbon, energy-efficient economy - by: · Cutting greenhouse gases by 20% · Reducing energy consumption by 20% through increased energy effi ciency · Meeting 20% of our energy needs from renewable sources.
The EU adopted an integrated energy and climate change policy in December

502,000,000 citizens in the EU expect actions A large majority of EU citizens are environmentally conscious and aware of their energy consumption. The European Commission’s latest survey on environment shows that over 90% of respondents personally are very concerned about the environment, and this applies in all member states. A large majority of Europeans agree that more efficient use of natural resources and better protection of the environment can boost economic growth in the EU. When people are asked about possible solutions, 8 out of 10 think that the companies should do more to use natural resources more efficiently, while 7 out of 10 want national governments to do more, and nearly 7 in 10 believe that the individual should do more. Changes are requested for saving energy, saving money, saving climate. TOUR2012EUROPE is a unique opportunity to communicate directly with the citizens. Source: europa.eu
Media Information
Marketing activities
TOUR2012EUROPE has developed the following materials and communication network connections.
A complete campaign package will be prepared for local marketing activities for TOUR2012EUROPE and an activity plan will be presented to and implemented by the host cities. The marketing material will be versioned and adjusted locally to each city. The host city is responsible for the execution of the local marketing activities. Press and television stations will be invited to the multimedia show on Friday night. Strong citizen involvement will secure true changes in energy behaviour. To secure optimum involvement of citizens and local consumers, several activities will take place in each city visited. To attract citizens to the event and pavilion area in the city, a contest theme has been developed: “The most efficient way to save energy”. The target groups are: local citizens, institutions, companies, etc.
An overall communication package (media kit). The local and national contribution (incl. versioning of press material) is executed by the host city. An overall press contribution will be accomplished and is focused on TV stations and major medias. An overall, general communication and press strategy. Here there will be great focus on media impact and by that on consumer/citizen information plus the business to business activities. The media manager will produce ready-touse TV features to be used by local/ regional/national TV stations. In each country the aim is as much TV coverage as possible. Among others in collaboration with: · CIRCOM’s partner stations (organization of more than 350 regional public TV stations). · EURONEWS (with their 180 million households in Europe and programs in 7 European languages). The EEP is a Europe-wide association of seventeen environmental magazines. Each member is considered the leader in its country and is committed to building links between 400,000 environmental professionals across Europe in both the public and private sectors. The World Wide Web and social media (facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr and websites/blogs) will also be important communication channels especially in order to mobilise and involve young people in the climate debate and create awareness of their behaviour.
Citizen activities An ECODRIVE contest will be arranged for each host city. One exhibition guest will be chosen (through a raffle) and given the chance to drive the eco-car to the next city of destination for TOUR2012EUROPE. First prize is the eco-car. For children as well as adults there will be a fantastic video game (climate game) at the exhibition. The game will challenge the player to use as little energy as possible, going through all the different challenges. There will also be very attractive prizes for the different target groups in several other contests and activities. Schools and other education institutions will actively be involved in each of the visited cities.
Green technology can be fun Around the square you will find different kind of activities that will appeal to both adults and children: mega-screen video game, activities at the various exhibits, special area for “climate kids” with games and activities, including ‘Test your knowledge about green technology’, etc.

Copenhagen wants to be the first carbon neutral capital in the world Copenhagen intends to become carbon neutral by 2025, but already in 2015 carbon emissions will be reduced by 20 per cent. Copenhagen has decided to reduce its carbon emissions by 20 per cent from 2005 to 2015. This equals a reduction of approximately 500.000 tons from 2.500.000 to 2.000.000 CO2. The target is to be achieved through the 50 initiatives of the Copenhagen Climate Plan. The city will be carbon neutral when Copenhagen’s carbon net emissions equals zero. That is when Copenhagen has reduced carbon emissions to a minimum; and compensated for the remainder of emissions with external initiatives (e.g. windmills). The vision is to be carried out by launching even more initiatives than those presented by the Climate Plan, for instance placing more windmills, further limiting of car and bus emissions or encouraging more Copenhagen citizens to save energy. In the Copenhagen Climate Plan 50 initiatives are put forward to reduce carbon emissions. 34 of these are launched in 2010, and 44 during the first half of 2011, e.g. climate renovation of municipal buildings (schools, kinder gardens etc.), constructing of more windmills, improvement of conditions for electric vehicles and establishing small parks for recreative purposes and rain water drainage. In 2010 an amount of DKK 28 million was assigned to the implementation of the plan, as well as 62.5 millions during 2011-13, making a total of DKK 90.5 million. Source: kk.dk
World’s best urban environments -Needs your competence to reach their climate goals
Sustainable Energy Action Plans for EU’s Green Capital Cities Hamburg - 2011
(Germany) The city of Hamburg, situated on the banks of the river Elbe, has a population of about 1.8 million and faces numerous metropolitan challenges. However Germany’s second largest city combines comprehensive approaches, policy -commitment and the necessary funding needed to resolve these challenges. Hamburg has set ambitious climate protection goals such as reducing its CO2 emissions by 40% by 2020 and by 80% by the year 2050. CO2 emissions per person have been reduced by about 15% when compared to 1990, with annual energy savings of some 46,000 MWh, a major achievement for a big city.
Vitoria-Gasteiz - 2012
(Spain) Vitoria-Gasteiz, founded in 1181, is second in size (only to Bilbao) in the Basque Country, and has some 240,000 people currently inhabiting this gem in northern Spain. VitoriaGasteiz has an ambitious objective of reducing domestic water consumption to below 100 litres per capita per day. The city has a high proportion of green public areas, ensuring that the entire population lives within 300m of an open green space. Numerous tangible measures are in place to assist and increase biodiversity and ecosystems services.
Nantes - 2013
(France) Situated on the Loire River, close to the Atlantic coast, Nantes is a green wonder of western France. It is France’s sixth largest city, and has a metropolitan area comprising some 600,000 inhabitants. Nantes has developed a sustainable transport policy with a focus on public transport and bicycles. Development within the city centre is planned to minimise car transport and to provide pedestrians with optimal conditions. Nantes was the first city in France to successfully re-introduce electric tramways. The ambitious transport policy shows improvements in reduced air pollution and CO2 emissions. All air pollution indicators (NO2, PM10 and ozone) are below limit values. This transport policy, together with an ambitious climate plan, has reduced CO2 emissions to 4.77 tonnes per capita.
