POWERHOUSE GLOBAL MAGAZINE (PGMAG) INTERVIEW WITH:

SARAH KEEN POST PGMAG: Oh mine! Powerhouse Sarah Post, so good to welcome you at today’s interview session. SKP: Lady Anita, it is my honor to be given this amazing opportunity. The Powerhouse Global Magazine is an extension of your tireless work, caring heart and selfless spirit. You are an unstoppable leader, so many people have and will benefit from your unending efforts. I would like to thank you for all that you do and share, it is truly a gift to me and to so many others around the world. Proud to be here, privileged to know you and all of the people that support your beautiful vison. PGMAG: I have been a fan of yours even before meeting you physically, for the first time, at the Powerhouse Global Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas. The interesting thing I had discovered about you before our meeting was

your positive energy. So, tell us, who is SARAH POST? SKP: Let’s travel through time. Sarah as a little girl, smiling, happy, dimples. All the while unsure of herself, anxious, full of questions. I have four older siblings, I was born nine years after the fourth sibling. One might say that I was a bit of a pest. Always hanging around, listening in, not wanting to miss a thing. Probably why I am a night owl to this day. I can’t go to bed, something amazing might happen! Also, always wanting to be around my family, around all of the activity. For me this meant security, safety, comfort. When I would go to bed, so hard to quiet my busy mind. Pretty sure anxiety was creeping in at this point. We will touch on that a bit later in the interview. When I got a little older, my

confidence did not improve. Reluctant to try new things, not wanting to step outside what was comfortable. Almost always turning down opportunities. What would I say to my younger self? Would I tell that little girl to be braver than she was? Tell her that she should have tried more things, tell her that she shouldn’t have been so anxious, she shouldn’t have been so shy at times? I believe that all of it shaped who I am today. It made me realize who I was truly meant to be so many years down the road. The positive energy you see today is very real. But, I do think that at some point in my life projecting that positive energy was a form of survival, a way to get myself through some challenging moments and events. All I have is now. The past is the past. I can be whoever I want to be, I can be my own leader and

my own encouraging friend. I can use my life experiences to show others the way. PGMAG: Listening to your story, I feel the world needs to read about it. Your journey is so inspiring, and I strongly believe that someone out there would greatly benefit from it. Please share a bit of your story with us. SKP: I began my journey in 2006 after the birth of my fifth child. Weighing over 200 pounds, I literally looked in the mirror and said out loud “This is not acceptable.” For me, my physical appearance wasn’t acceptable, my health wasn’t acceptable, but also my mental mindset wasn’t acceptable. I was not being the Mom that I wanted to be, and my quality of life was definitely not what I wanted it to be. What drove me? My children, they were and still are my biggest motivation. It is so important to me to set a good example for them. To show them that in my case, you can be a stay at home Mom, then when they are all in school, you can set goals for yourself, achieve those goals, chase and live out your dreams. I wouldn’t go to a gym until I

thought I was presentable or respectable to show my face there. I worked out at home, in my basement where no one could see me. Eventually I ventured outside, I would walk around the block, I added to that each day. One step at a time. PGMAG: How do you manage to keep the momentum of your fitness regime? SKP: Seeing changes, more significant changes both physically and mentally. I am learning new information nearly every day. This lifestyle has definitely become a passion for me. My journey has now brought me to a place of wanting to do more. Wanting to help others. I like to think that others are depending on my transformation. I want to allow my evolution to motivate me in such a way that I am able to lead, serve and guide others on their personal journeys. Using my experiences and knowledge to see others succeed. I believe that seeing others succeed is a wonderful goal to keep close to our hearts.

to deal with on a daily basis. Some of these individuals look attractive on the outside, but they struggle to acknowledge their brilliance inwardly. Please shed more light on this illness and suggest possible keys to dealing with such a challenge. SKP: I am so glad that you asked this question. Anxiety is very close to my heart for many reasons. I would be glad to share a bit about my own experiences in hopes of helping others. Along with the

daily self-demeaning thoughts about my weight and physical appearance I suffered from crippling anxiety. It robbed me of so many events, moments, travel etc. It controlled me, I did not control it. I would go to the grocery store; a panic attack would ensue. I would then leave an entire cart full in the aisle and walk out. I would not get my haircut, for fear of getting half way through and what if I wanted to flee? My kid’s programs and

PGMAG: Whilst pondering your presentation during the Houston event, I realized the pain so many individuals (sufferers of anxiety) have

events, the countless excuses that were made. When I did go somewhere, looking for exits, needing to know exactly where the bathrooms were, always planning my escape if needed. The stories I fabricated in order to avoid people and public places. Always praying that I would see no one I knew. Get in, get out, get home. Wearing the same exact outfit day after day. Nothing mattered. I was merely existing. I was certainly not living, even breathing was difficult at times. All of those moments and events I mentioned, I fought through. I had to prove to myself that I could do it. Hard? Yes. Would not going, not doing, not living my day to day life have been easier? Yes. But I realized I was responsible for more than just myself. With five busy children, there were sporting events, school programs and conferences to attend, just to name a few. Those events forced me to put myself out there, to appear in public where my feelings of anxiety and insecurity would only intensify. Even though my inner struggles were so intense, I appeared on the outside to have it all together. Anyone with anxiety, I feel you, I understand you, I get you and I am here for you.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

One of the keys to dealing with anxiety is finding healthy ways to cope. Whether that be deep breathing, meditation, practicing positive, rational thinking. Reach out and talk about it. Do not keep it inside, you are definitely not alone. So many people can identify, encourage, support and give you different ways to thrive that you maybe hadn’t thought of before. Anxiety is a lot of “What if” thinking. You can condition your thoughts to go to a more logical way of processing an event or specific moment. You are stronger than you know and more capable than you can imagine. Believe that an exciting, fulfilling life awaits you. Because it does. I believe in you. Believe in yourself. PGMAG: Some women struggle and are still struggling with their weight. In fact, it is a worldwide challenge. What is your advice to these women? SKP: Remember that it is a journey. A journey that when taken properly, slow and steady and in a healthy way will last. It is a lifestyle. Check yourself throughout the day. How are you REALLY doing? How are feeling? What are you thinking and how are

you talking to yourself. How you talk to yourself matters a great deal. If you find yourself in a negative place, having the ability to bring yourself back from negative talk, thoughts and actions is crucial. Each day may be different, but you still own each day. Try your very best to keep your thoughts positive, powerful and productive. Negative thoughts are not productive to your growth. Your mind, heart, body and soul are listening. Be caring, be kind, be confident, it all starts with you. Also, think about your why. What is your why? If you don’t know what that is yet, find it. If your why has become unclear revisit your reasons, your goals, your purpose. If you know without a doubt what your why is, remind yourself of it daily! FOCUS. Remember why you are doing what you are doing. And remember WHO you are doing it for. Never feel guilty for taking time for yourself, for caring for yourself, for being your own cheerleader and best friend at times. You are depending on you. Be accountable to yourself each and every day. Respect your feelings, your mood and your thoughts.

Lastly, don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Make a commitment to move your body in some way every day. Whether they be big or small accomplishments, everything counts. PGMAG: During your struggle what do you see when you look in the mirror? SKP: Passing by a mirror now, I literally stop and think, “Is that really me?” I still struggle with self-confidence and body image issues. Losing a significant amount of weight can leave behind a significant amount of skin. But I consider that to be a part of my story, something that represents the struggle, the time, the effort, all the hard work, sweat and tears. I must admit, my body has been kind to me in my transformation, rebounding nicely, all things considered. Thank you to my body, it is an amazing, resilient machine. Now that my kids are older, my lifestyle shows them that I value myself, my health and my mind. I want to be there for them and I want to be there for them for a long time. They have seen many different stages of me. At a time when I wasn’t loving myself, from them I learned unconditional love.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

Had I been able to see myself through their eyes, especially in the most difficult stages of my transformation, would I have been kinder to myself, more patient, knowing that it wasn’t going to happen overnight? Would I have taken more cues from their hugs, I love yous and endless affection? Children are honest, there are no filters. They don’t judge. They loved me always, loved me through it all, and are so proud of me now. PGMAG: I understand you spend a lot of time at the gym to keep your body fit. Are there some changes you have had to make to compliment your workout? SKP: This is where I get to talk about leveling up, and that excites me. New levels are empowering and exciting. When it is time to level up I can feel it, it is a fire in me. Levels have no limits, you must constantly rise up. Translating these thoughts to the gym means that I am always switching up my workouts, always challenging myself in new ways, always confusing my body and my muscles so that they have no choice but to change. This is also where I get to talk about leadership. I have since

learned, without even realizing it that throughout my journey I was taking the actions and steps of a leader. I now see the connection between leadership and transformation. One cannot exist without the other. I began to set goals for myself. When a goal was reached there was another one on deck. That has never changed for me. Set a goal, reach it. Set another goal, reach it. Repeat forever. PGMAG: I am intrigued to know more about your fitness regime. Here is a woman who weighed over 200 pounds after the birth of her 5th child, and now is looking like a model. What motivated you to travel on this journey? SKP: I would not be entirely truthful if I said my initial motivation was to get healthy. That became my top priority and motivation and is now. But, initially it was my physical appearance. Looking in the mirror and not loving what I saw. Not even considering what was on the inside at that point but focusing only on the outer shell. I am fairly confident that there isn’t one thing that anyone going through a transformation has said to themselves that I haven’t said to myself. I have beat myself up. I have hated

December 2018

9

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

on myself. I have looked away from my reflection. I have wanted to give up, to quit. I have said, “What’s the point?” But I didn’t quit. Which leads me to talk about passion. The definition of passion: A strong and barely controllable emotion. It becomes a part of you. Obsession? Yes. A tunnel vision to some extent. Loving myself enough to take care of me became my passion. I primarily lift free weights, a few machines and a bit of cardio, mostly Stairmaster. I also add in some HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) from time to time. But lifting weights by far is my favorite thing to do and it is the majority of my training. I am at the gym every day. One of those days is a lighter day, somewhat of a rest day. But I am still there, still moving my body, getting my blood circulating and working up a sweat.

biggest highlights of 2018? SKP: Back in May I had the honor of being a guest on a Podcast. That Podcast is called The Roots of Leadership with Anthony Gruppo. Speaking of tireless work, unending efforts and unstoppable leaders. Anthony is a man that defines those terms to the full extent of their meaning. A true visionary leader, amazing author, incomparable motivator, passionate speaker and CEO. He not only sees strengths and skills in others that they haven’t tapped into yet, but he sees an inner light that may have been dimmed or maybe it’s never been lit. He brings out the very best in the people he mentors, in anyone he meets.

Fitness and nutrition has become a passion for me, a way of life, a way to love life and live life to the fullest. The gym is my outlet, my therapy, my sanity. It is always there for me, it never lets me down. It gives me strength in so many ways, not just physical strength.

It was a truly amazing experience. A chance to share my story, a chance to reach others, it was a chance to let others know that I knew what they were going through. I’ve been there. A sincere thank you to Anthony for giving me that opportunity, as a result of that opportunity I received messages. All heartfelt, some of them heart wrenching, from people who related to my journey. I would like to share one of them with you now.

PGMAG: What was one of your

I am reaching out to you

because your Podcast moved me to tears. I thought it was amazing and very empowering. I am starting my journey tomorrow and I am telling you because I need to say it out loud to someone, so I do not have an excuse. I am tired. Tired of being invisible, I don’t look in the mirror because I hate the person I’ve become. I want to be capable again, instead of self-doubting and in constant fear of what others think. I just needed to say my stuff out loud, because I am carrying a lot of it. Thank you, friend. That could have been written by me 12 years ago when I began my journey.

PGMAG: What is your next big project? SKP: I am fortunate to be involved in something that could change lives in the area of health and human services, wellness and nutrition. In areas that can improve the outcome of health care. A transformational model that is a new evolutionary system to change the results of wellness and what some may know as population health management. A system to help people transform, to literally take the

psychology of transformation and apply it to the physical stage of transformation, to improve results for people and their health. I am so grateful to be working with Anthony Gruppo and an amazing team of people on this project. My own transformation has led me to opportunities that I never imagined possible. I said that my ultimate goal is to be able to help others. This is why I do what I do. This is why I have worked so hard on myself so that I now can give back, be a leader who can show people that anything is possible and that they owe it to themselves to improve their lifestyle in order to live their lives to the absolute fullest of their ability. PGMAG: We’ve talked about the physical transformation, how important is mental transformation and mindset? SKP: Mindset must transform with you. Your mindset is also on a journey, sometimes a very bumpy one. It matters on the good days just as much as it matters, if not more on the bad days. You have got to believe that you have it in you. Because you do, and you are worth it. You can see my physical transformation. You cannot see

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

the mental transformation that has taken place. Whenever we discuss transformation we cannot forget to reflect on the changes that happen within. The mental metamorphosis that one goes through is so incredibly important. The body and mind work together to get you where you ultimately want to go. Mindset and Physical Strength must be in sync to produce results. It is an unbeatable combination. PGMAG: You mentioned Leadership earlier. Can you expand on how that is such an important component of your transformation? SKP: There is a definite connection between Leadership and Transformation. You must: Decide that you need to make a change. Make a plan. Execute that plan. Be consistent. Be accountable. Be somewhat selfish. Paying yourself first so that you can be the most effective for others. No excuses. You cannot lead if you live in an excuse-based environment. There is satisfaction in seeing it through.

Leading, Serving and Helping others is the ultimate goal. I have never been more focused in my life than I am right now. But I found that focus along the way. Out of necessity. Locked and loaded on my goals for the first time in forever. This equals results which produces determination. There is no stopping me. I led myself to this place. I didn’t know it at the time, but I had leadership skills and I discovered them in some of my weakest moments. How amazing is that? PGMAG: You look amazing in your transformed body. How did you arrive at this point of ‘fitness at its best-looking body’? SKP: First of all, thank you so much. I am always looking for ways to improve, ways to up my game, change things around to achieve new and exciting results. Consistency, accountability and variety are key. For me, it has been 12-year journey. Who wants to hear “12 years to a brand new you?” No one. I have been asked. What are you drinking, what are you eating, what are you doing, what is your secret?

December 2018

11

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

Besides a heck of a lot of hard work physically and mentally. I guess my secret all along was Leadership. You have the power to lead yourself through your own transformation and beyond. It is a never-ending process and that is a very beautiful thing. Always evolving, always changing. You will discover that you can do things you never thought possible. PGMAG: How important has the support of others been throughout your transformation? SKP: I said earlier that I led myself to this place, let me clarify. Did I have the inner strength, the determination, the willpower to get me here? Yes. Did I do the physical work? Yes. But did I surround myself with a team, did I find people that would support me, that wanted the very best for me, that would push me far beyond what I ever thought possible? Yes. These people gave their time, their talents, their knowledge, their amazing skills and asked for nothing in return. I am forever grateful. Your circle is crucial to your success. Choose wisely. PGMAG: What is your message to those reading this interview?

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

SKP: Going with what I am feeling in this very moment, my message would be, believe with all of your heart that ANYTHING is possible. I would have never dreamed that a little girl who grew up in Storm Lake, Iowa would be given this amazing opportunity for which I am truly grateful to be given. We must all be brave enough to explore our potential, to never give up on ourselves because one day all of the internal and external battles that you have fought through and came out on the other side of will not only make you stronger, but they will provide you with the tools to help others. I never knew the term Servant Leadership until I met Anthony Gruppo. I have had profound experiences where I have seen others practicing Servant Leadership. Those experiences have caused me to reevaluate how I can be of service to others. How can I give back? I may set out thinking that I am going to change lives, but I am certain that I am the one who will be forever changed in the very best ways.

SKP: Thank you, it has been my pleasure Lady Anita. I have so much respect for the work that you and your team do. Making a difference, changing lives, educating and empowering people on a daily basis. The future is incredibly bright, we will all continue to work together, there is power in the collaborative efforts of those with passionate hearts on a mission. ARE YOU A

“GLOBAL POWERHOUSE?”

KIMBERLY DAVIS

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

What does it mean to be a “global powerhouse?” So often we use labels without even thinking about what they mean. They can sound good, from a marketing perspective. They can make us feel good about ourselves. They can make others like us when we include them in the “special club.” But we forget what they require of us. Inherent in the label that declares who we are, is tremendous responsibility. It’s important to ask ourselves, is a being a “global powerhouse” simply aspirational or is it truly showing up in our actions? Earlier this fall I had an opportunity to attend an intimate conference that reminded me of what is possible. Men and women from different backgrounds, different Nationalities, different races, likely different faiths, came together to share their stories of adversity and hope; resilience and love. Every person spoke of fierce commitment to make an impact—to create positive change in their corner of

December 2018

13

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

the world. At the end of the conference everyone in the room was so connected that nobody wanted the day to end! We “got” that we were part of something larger than ourselves. We “got” that we were being asked to play a bigger game—to move beyond our backyards and reach across the oceans. We “got” that, together, we could move mountains. One of the greatest gifs in my life has been to work with other cultures. Early in my career I traveled throughout Japan delivering cross-cultural workshops at college fairs. For this blue-eyed-blonde-North American, it was the first time in my life I had a chance to experience what it was like to be seen as “different.” I

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

remember sitting next to an elderly Japanese woman on the bus who looked at me with terror when I smiled at her. She promptly got up and moved across the bus to stand in the isle. She would rather stand, than sit next to someone “like me.” As someone who teaches empathy and influence for a living, this memory is something I think about quite often. How can we hope to effect change in a world where “different” is seen as “scary?” We can’t. We must find a way to bridge our differences and create a safe place for connection before we can hope to make an impact. Ironically, on the very same trip, I forged relationships with my Japanese colleagues that would last a lifetime. We discovered,

to our complete delight, how much more alike we were than different. We talked of our hopes and dreams, our fears and regrets; we talked long into the night about family and futures. We laughed until we cried; and when it was time to say goodbye, we clung to our connection like a lifeline. More recently I had a chance to work with an extraordinary group of women from Jordan, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Egypt, and Tunisia. Again, different cultures, different languages, different faiths; all united by our hunger to grow and make a positive impact in our corner of the world. To me, that is the essence of what it means to be a “global powerhouse.” That we can sit around the table with people

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

from different cultures, with different backgrounds and beliefs, and connect around our shared humanity and our commitment to make a difference. It’s active. Active curiosity. Active connection. Active impact. To be a “global powerhouse” requires an active commitment to making the world a better place. Together. So maybe it is aspirational. Perhaps that’s the case with every big change-the-worldambition. But it’s in our commitment to be worthy of such a grand label, that we find our better selves. We learn how to step into each other’s shoes and see through a different lens. We learn how to appreciate and celebrate our differences. We learn how to see possibility and co-create the future. We breathe life into the label. Become a global powerhouse because of what it will make of you. The world needs your impact. Heed the call.

What I learned came from my past knowledge. I was speaking with the Universe. I started to use my imagination and co-creating with the Universe.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

As a young child my outer conditions were not ideal. My parents were always verbally fighting, and we were living in a town that treated us as strangers. We were living a modest and secluded life. To escape that environment, I learned at a young age, to take refuge in my own mind. Inventing a life that was abundant, exciting, full of adventure, but foremost love was everywhere. I always felt appreciated, it was basically a fairy tale life. The more the outer condition become bleak the more I pushed myself to dream big, to dream bold. Seeing myself in the future as a successful and happy young woman, smiling at the world while traveling. As a young child I could see things around me, hearing conversations in the kitchen when it was in the middle of the night and everyone in the house were asleep. I had visions at night as well, but what I learned came from my past knowledge. I was speaking with the Universe. I started to use my imagination and co-creating with the Universe. My imagination was my way of not letting the outer conditions influence or dictate my life. I felt I was in a raging river unable to get out of it, at times I felt I was sinking. But at the last minute I felt the hand of the Universe pulling me back and letting me float safely for a moment.

At school our fate was already sealed, because my parents were blue collars the chance to attend higher education was nearly impossible. We, at the end of high school, had to pass some test that would reveled what we should be doing with our lives or at least what our aptitudes were. I do not recall the result of the test, but I do know leaving high school no paperwork was given to us to apply to University. Instead we were left to figure out what to do next. As our familial situation was degrading, we lost our house to foreclosure. My father, in his great wisdom, decided to stop making the mortgage payments. While everything was unraveling around us

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

he decided to leave us. Abandoning us without any remorse. Losing the house was one of the most painful situations I have ever experienced, this was the only house I knew. I felt I was being taken apart. I was lost and afraid because everything I knew was gone. Because of this situation, one of my sisters and I were living in an apartment in a city while my mother was living somewhere else. It was a difficult time, but my spirit was still pushing me to dream big to do not give up. My uncle, who is my mentor, traveled all around the world and now he was back in town. Seeing him once a week to enjoy lunch was great. We used to go to different

small restaurants and speak about his trips. He is an avid photographer and the pictures he brought back were amazing. I was able to be keep some of them to fuel the fire in me, keeping me inspired. Dreaming of a better life. . As I was ready to graduate from technical school, our living arrangements were a bit chaotic, but my sister and I were trying our best. I had no idea where my life was taking me. I was more than determined to get out of there. Since I was a child I knew I did not belong there. I always felt like a stranger, because I wasn’t thinking like everyone else. I never felt I was in the right place. I felt it was a mistake. My

life was somewhere else. I often had heated arguments with my mother. She never understood me, quite often I think she thought I was crazy. My instinct was to continue to dream big, seeing myself living in a different country, traveling and enjoying who I was. I knew my life wasn’t meant to be in Europe, but I had to have faith in the Universe to guide me and let perfect synchronicity work its magic. It happened when an ad was placed by the Club Med in a newspaper. I responded to it and was selected for an interview. I went to Paris and with five other candidates in the same room we attended

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

the interview. It was a little strange the way it happened but at the end of the interview I left to catch my train. I felt I failed the interview. I left Paris disappointed thinking I was not selected, I did not say a word to anyone about it. Couple of months later I received a call from them letting me know they needed me in one of their villages. At first, I thought it was a joke and hung up but to my surprise they called me back. This was my opening, my ticket to live that life that wasn’t mine. I took the first step in the unknown and accepted the position. It was the first step that guided me where I am today. I knew the Club Med was the

incubator, the place where I needed to learn to be less shy and let my spirit be. Leaving my early, unhappy life behind me and be who I was meant to be. The fourth village I went to was in Italy. There I meet someone who was reading Dr Joseph Murphy’s book, she gave me one of his books. When I started to read it, I was stunned to realized that I was already using my mind to co-create with the Universe. I felt I was more connected than before, everything I was doing naturally came from a great place of wisdom. It was an “ah ha” moment that helped me along the way. I was still thinking about leaving Europe the opportunity finally

came after my accident at the Club Med. I returned to stay with my sister while I was recovering. I felt it was time for me to finally open my wings and fly away. It was the right time for me to leave Europe, synchronicity worked its magic and I was finally on my way to the life I was meant to be living. Through the years my gifts as a psychic strengthened, I was not only developing one skill but opening myself to the complexity of my soul, like a diamond letting each facet shine. I started to push the boundaries of my life to become limitless. By following the beat of my own drum, I pushed myself beyond what everyone thought I could do. Instead the fire in me pushed me beyond my wildest dream. Giving me the inspiration to be bold in my dreams. Learning at a young age to not let my outer condition influence me but instead giving me the spark I needed to move mountains. Starting in the place where nothing was ever given to me on a “silver platter but instead with my tenacity and strengths listening to the sound of my own drum, my beautiful Spirit showed me everything was possible if you believe. One of the biggest lessons in life I have learned and apply

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

is that no matter where you are born, what education you have you can co-create with the Universe your desired life. You can change the outer conditions and make what seems impossible, possible. Your imagination is the most powerful tool you have. Use it today to create the happy ending you want. Listening to the beat of my own drum has brought me back home where I belong. I have learned so much along the way, but foremost it inspired me today to share my story. As someone who has lived many lives using all the facets my spirit has, I have never given

up on my dreams as a young child. I believed in me when no one else did. I knew deep in my core I had a long journey ahead to go back home, to the life I was meant to live. I listened to the sound of my drum in the darkest times seeing myself protected and safe. As we are all walking on our journey we should all take the time to listen to the sound of our own drum. It is our guide, our compass that guides us along the way. Even if for some of us the outer conditions are not ideal our imagination can help us change the course of our life for the best. It is never too late to start.

As you are reading my story start to listen to the sound of your own drum, it will guide you to uncharted territory living the life you are meant to live. Becoming limitless is not for the few chosen ones but everyone. Hold fast to your dreams and be bold. When you start to let your imagination run free, this is where magic happens. You can change the course of your life to finally reach the bounty that is meant to be for you. Tips: I used the pictures my uncle took when he traveled around the world as a source of inspiration. You can do the same if you have access to magazines, internet. Print a picture and post them in your room or kitchen where you can see them every day. I imagined myself there. If you can find a quiet place or while you are walking or

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

running. Create a movie in your head where you can see yourself successful, happy etc. Embody those feelings, the more you embody them the better it is. *when you are creating your movie always speak in present tense, like you already have it. The Universe in its infinite wisdom is going to notice it, this is when synchronicity will start its magic by gathering the pieces to materialize your hearts desires. Thank the Universe afterward. *Also, we wish we could have everything at the tip of our fingers immediately, it can take a few months or years to make it happened. You need to understand it is not a sprint but a marathon. Patience and tenacity are always rewarded. It took 11 years for me, as a child to the time I left Europe.

POWERHOUSE GLOBAL MAGAZINE (PGMAG) INTERVIEW WITH:

NGOZI MUONEKE (NM) (COSMETIC FORMULATOR) PGMAG: We are so honoured to interview you today Powerhouse woman. NM: Thank you so much, I am very honoured and privileged to be a part of your interview PGMAG: We have been connected virtually for a good number of years, before finally meeting in London, UK at the Powerhouse Global Awards event 2018. Wow! Your presence was a breath of fresh air. Despite all your achievements which we shall be touching on at this interview, you were calm and very friendly. Thank you for blessing the world with your brilliant mind. NM: Wow, much appreciated, it was a pleasant surprise to receive it thank you. PGMAG: So, tell us; who is Powerhouse Ngozi Muoneke? NM: Well, first I am a child of the Most High God, without Him I would not have been able to achieve so much. I’m a wife and mother of four, a cosmetic formulator, a multi-award entrepreneur, author of “How To Redeem Your Time Effectively” and a Public Speaker. PGMAG: You were honoured as the ‘INVENTOR OF THE YEAR’ at the 2018 Powerhouse Global Award. Each one of us has a story or more to share about our journey. Please tell us; how

did you become a ‘cosmetic formulator’? NM: I studied Business Information Technology at Westminster University and being the entrepreneur that I am, I started my first business building custom made computers for clients. However, home computers became affordable for people to purchase after about a year, and it was not viable for me to compete with Dell etc. My late twin sister was a Principle Pharmacy Technician at the time, and she used to make skincare creams. I was fascinated and asked her to show me, but she advised me to study Pharmacy Sciences which I did, and progressed to further study Cosmetic Formulation and the rest is as they say is history. PGMAG: What does it mean to be a voice in the formations of some of the best beauty products in the Global Market? NM: Well, I have many years of experience in the cosmetic industry which has given me a great platform. I also have my own brand “M3 Skincare”. Being a member of SCS (Society of Cosmetic Scientists) and IFSCC (International Federation Societies of Cosmetic Chemists) has enabled me to learn and share my knowledge. I’ve had the opportunity of working

with brilliant formulators from around the world. I have been fortunate to connect and network with reputable suppliers based in the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland and Ghana. PGMAG: It must be a tough decision to travel to so many countries in pursuit of your dream as a sort-after cosmetic formulator. As a mother, wife and entrepreneur, how do you manage to stay focused on your journey? NM: To be honest, it is not easy. However, it is important to have an equal balance of your social and work life and

I try to ensure that this is the case. PGMAG: So many women struggle with self-doubt. Have you ever been in a position where you doubted your ability to deliver the demand from your field of purpose (Home and business)? NM: Well, there’s always doubt lingering at the back of your mind, but I like to give 110% whether it has to do with my work or business. Believing in yourself, helps others believe in you. PGMAG: what has been the most challenging decision that you had to make as a Cosmetic

Formulator? NM: Formulating cosmetics itself can be quite challenging however, for me the most challenging is to continue to be consistent in using quality ingredients for our customers. A supplier may discontinue an ingredient which may cause delay in manufacturing the product. Our products are not tested on animals and are paraben free. PGMAG: How would you describe yourself? NM: I am a jovial family and people person, who is hardworking and can be persistently determined in whatever I do. PGMAG: What would you

need to become a ‘cosmetic formulator’? NM: A cosmetic formulator/ scientist will need a science degree and there are various institutions that facilitate Cosmetic science Diploma courses. Develops, identifies, and modifies new and existing formulations and technologies for improved performance. It follows and supports current Good Manufacturing Practices and current Good Laboratory Practices and prepares specifications for raw materials and formulations. PGMAG: When did you realise your passion and purpose as a global cosmetic formulator? NM: My passion as a cosmetic

formulator came when I started to make creams and lotions for family and friends. And also, I was motivated by the positive response from those close quarters because I use naturally sourced ingredients for my formulation. As a cosmetic formulator I tried different formulations for skincare and hair care products, but I noticed a difference in my family’s skin when I used natural ingredients. From there, things progressed, and I started a cosmetic manufacturing family business. We manufacture skincare, haircare and personal care. Also, private label for clients and opened opportunities on a global scale.

PGMAG: What would you suggest to someone who desires to go into this line of business? NM: It is a rewarding career which enables you to create and use almost any cosmetic or personal care product you want. PGMAG: Who is your role model? NM: My role model would have to be Dr Justina Mutale (The Justina Mutale Leadership Foundation) She is a global inspirational leader with a passion and purpose. PGMAG: Who would be your all-time dinner guest, and why choose such a person? NM: It would have to be Trevor Noah because I like a lot of humour, so I feel that having any conversation with him would be hilarious. PGMAG: What would you bring to the table should you be called to address world leaders? NM: I’m passionate about supporting female entrepreneurs. As a cosmetic formulator/manufacture, I would like to train women in developing countries on how to use their natural resources to make skin and hair care products, and offer franchises

with government support. PGMAG: What is your message to the women of the world? NM: No matter where you are in life, the come back is always stronger than the setback. Don’t invest 5 minutes of your time in something valuable if you are not willing to spend 5 years working on it. PGMAG: Finally, what are your three keys to success in life (personal and professional)? NM: Trust God, know your worth, Persevere PGMAG: Thank you so very much for your time, and for sharing your story with us. We wish you great successes and look forward to working with you on some of our global projects. NM: Thank you for your support Lady Anita and PGMAG!! PGMAG: Please share your contact links with us. LEADERSHIP

LESSONS FROM

THE LIFE OF MOSES BOJOSI GAMONTLE

Whether one believes in the stories of the Bible or not, they can be such powerful tools for teaching in different aspects of life. For instance, the story of Moses is wrought with rich examples and nuggets for leaders. In this post I pull out some of the substance from his story to enrich our paths as leaders. As with any leader, Moses’ life is complex and riddled with contradictions, personal challenges and, peaks and valleys. For the sake of simplicity, I divide it into five different sections for the sake of ease and clarity regarding lessons to learn.

We all must make a living somehow, whether that is through work or business. Some people are fortunate to live their passion in either of those vocations.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

Early indicators When Pharaoh issued the ghastly interdict of killing Hebrew male children, Moses’ mother realises there is something special about this boy and she hides him, and he goes on to live. Lessons: (1) We all have a purpose, but for most great leaders something set them apart even in their early childhood. Have your parents described your traits when you were young, that made them think; “Hmm…that’s interesting. This child is going to be something!” Sometimes those stories can be an indicator of our purpose. In the story of Moses, some claim that the basket that Moses was

December 2018

26

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

hidden in by the river (Exodus 2) could be an indicator of one of his famous leadership tests – the parting of the red sea. Moses’ name even had water in its meaning (Exodus 2:10). The whole basket/water thing might be a bit of a stretch but searching our childhood may show us clues to what we are to do with this thing called life. Just for fun, if you have never asked, ask your parents/ guardian what they thought of your as a child. (2) The second is for you as a leader, whether at your organization or at home, to pay attention to your children to help guide them into their purpose. If it is at the work place or community, to keep an eye out for new talent and identify early indicators for potential leadership.

The call We all must make a living somehow, whether that is through work or business. Some people are fortunate to live their passion in either of those vocations. However, some will feel a soul-deep discontent with their lives and feel pulled towards a different direction. The dramatic “burning bush” incident where God calls Moses is well-known. However, way before this, Moses felt a burden in his heart for the Israelites

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

(Exodus 2:11). This was the beginning of his calling. Lesson: What burdens you? What aches your heart? What burns your heart with joy? That may just be the seed of your calling.

The training period After the burden is identified comes the training period! This part is blah…urgh! It is tough, it is lonely. It is the wilderness experience. During this stage some people may feel suicidal- like, what is the point of living if life is this bleak? Take heart, regardless of how

grave it appears, the wilderness experience is for your good! It comes to prepare and sharpen you for the role you will resume in the future. Here, you can look at contemporary great leaders for example; Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was in prison 27 years! Twentyseven years for pursuing the burden in his heart. Part of the wilderness experience is some of the people you are called to lead will not even like you, nor will they think what you are trying to do is necessary. One of the Hebrews gents asks Moses; “Who made YOU ruler

December 2018

27

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

over us?” (Exodus 2:14). Can you say eek! Alas, throughout your journey as a leader there will be opposition from certain quarters, you just must learn to soldier on despite it. Lessons: What has been your wilderness experience? What were some of the hardest moments of your life’s journey? What did you learn from them? What helped you to climb out the dungeon of the wilderness?

speak to Pharaoh because he thinks he does not possess the oratory skills needed to talk to Pharaoh! Uhm! What is Moses talking about, he grew up in Pharaoh’s house? Self-doubt will cause you to say the most bizarre things. Fortunately for Moses, Aaron his brother is sent to help him. Lesson: Have you identified your excuse? Are you aware that it is an excuse?

negotiates with God on behalf of the people (Exodus 32:11). Even though these thickheaded people do as they wish time after time, he loves them dearly and he pleads with God on their behalf. He tells God, please forgive them, or kill me (Exodus 32:32). Lesson: Are you resolute in your walk and your work? Are you standing up for the people who follow you?

The work

Maturity stage

Legacy

This is now the essence of the calling. It can also be divided into different stages. Initial stages Lack of confidence – We see Moses trying to avoid going to

At this stage Moses is coming into his own. He has gained clarity about his role and he is convinced about his calling. The same Moses who could not stand before Pharaoh,

Moses senses that his time is coming to an end. He blesses each tribe (Deuteronomy 33) and speaks about their purpose which is reminiscent of the Jacob blessing (Genesis 49). He

prepares them psychologically for the next leg of their journey. He selects, anoints and transfers power to his successor, Joshua (Numbers 27:18; Deuteronomy 34:9)…. and he dies! Lessons: If you are at the completion of your mission, have you prepared your followers? Do you have a succession plan? Are you currently mentoring your successor? In conclusion, we can learn leadership strategies from anywhere including biblical characters. At the beginning of a leader’s journey there will be trepidation and self-doubt. However, if the leader does not quit, they will begin to gain self-confidence and develop into a strong leader who loves their followers and develops a vision strong enough to sustain the followers long after he/she is gone.

STARTING AND RUNNING

A SUCCESSFUL COMPANY IS A DREAM THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE

SIMONE VINCENZI

Starting and running a successful company is a dream that many people have, but most of them do not realize it. In fact, about half of all startups close within five years of being in business.

advice ever. How to build a Coaching Business Step 1: Build a Community

You might be wondering ‘why is that?’ There are many answers to that, but one that pops up over and over is the lack of a good long-term marketing strategy.

Nothing brings people together like a sense of community. At GTeX, we understand that it’s the people make up every business. As a matter of fact, one of our favourite philosophies reads that ‘if you build a community first, then the community will build your business.’

When people start companies without looking at the bigger picture, sometimes they lose out on the market years down the line, and as a result, they close down. If you want to grow a coaching business and not suffer the same fate as these startups, just continue reading up on this best business

Building a community, especially an online community, takes a lot of time and effort, so before you start this journey, make sure you’re up for it. If you’re not sure how to build an online community, you can refer to our previous article where we talked about using Facebook Messenger bots to direct more people to your

site and have more people subscribing to and using your services. Building a community should be the first item on your business marketing strategy because your community is going to make up your market at one point. Surrounding yourself with people who respect and even like you will also be an advantage when you start pitching your ideas to them. People are always more willing to listen to and support individuals they like.

Step 2: Create a Signature Program

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

After you have learned how to build an online community and built one yourself, the next step is to design a program that directly impacts that community. People go out of business every year because of too much competition or because their consumers don’t like their product or find it useless. A signature program addresses those problems. Because you know your community, you need to create a unique program that interests them for you to grow your coaching business.

You can get great ideas by listening to the complaints people make, or the things they wished existed near them. After that, look at how you can provide what that community lacks in a way that is unique to a signature program.

Step 3: Give your Community Access to your Business So you’ve created an amazing product, tailored to the people you associate with on social media. How do you get them to engage in your coaching business? There are two ways you can do

35

this. First, you can offer them a lifetime membership to your program at a one-off price. This option is great if you want to get lifetime consumers. It’s also good because it gives you a significant cash influx. The second option would be to offer them monthly subscription-based services.

THE EYES OF A CHILD ANTHONY C. GRUPPO

We must never lose the child within us. Successful leaders have an inner child that prevents them from being complacent. They are always at play, changing the rules to fit their next challenge. In every overachiever, you see the eyes of a playful child with the intensity of a focused professional.

desire to play? Our eyes, it has been said, are the windows to our soul. Whether we are parents or business leaders, together we should build the playground of life. The playground is always open to these children of challenge to play and achieve their goals. Wherever we stand in our playground.

We should all view photos of ourselves from different ages. Try placing the photographs in front of you starting from the youngest age to the most current year. Look at your eyes. Do they still have that fire and

dreams. After all is said and done, isn’t life just a game? And, who better to play a game than a leader with the spirit of a child. Children are often fearless. They try different things because they believe they can accomplish every goal they attempt. They look at pessimists with a strange and confused look. They wonder why someone would speak of defeat prior to the start of the game. We hear people talk about adults as role models for children. Perhaps, children can serve as role models for adults.

The eyes of a child are the message center to the soul of achievement. Enjoy the game and never regret the result. Continue to seek new playmates that possess the drive and determination to never take you or themselves too seriously. Do we still have the eyes of a child?

HEALTH, FAMILY, AND FAITH DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON KURT S. RATASKI

This particular day was different for me – It was life transforming. Writing this story reminds me how serious life is, and one must not take anything for granted.

As I’ve gone through life, I have learned that there will always be someone with a bigger house, a smaller house, more money, less money, bigger waistline, and smaller waistline. Someone that lifts weights of all sizes and many more …. The key is being in the moment and being grateful for what you have and how you look. Understand that everyone is different and each individual is on a personal journey. On a very hot Sunday (July 2017), my life changed forever. It started just like most Sunday mornings for me. As an active person, I would usually go out to play sports with friends and other professionals at a beautiful court, overlooking Navesink River here in Rumson, New Jersey. This particular day was different for me – It was life transforming. Writing this story reminds me how serious life is, and one must not take anything for granted. On this particular day, I had played a few games and during a break, we were all sitting on the bench trying to rehydrate and take a breather, as I reached down to tie my sneaker I collapsed on the court. I woke up in the ambulance and was told what had happened to me. If not for the act of bravery by my friends, I would not have been here today sharing my

story. When we got to the hospital, lots of tests were carried out, and the doctors discovered that I had stage 2 Kidney Disease. This was unexpected for me and very scary. I am so grateful for God’s mercy and for healing my Kidney, and for giving me another chance to live and make differences in the lives of others. Although I got hit with a setback by the disease, but if I didn’t collapse on the basketball court I may have never found out on time to correct it. If you focus on the negative you will only see negative. After the incident I had to make some changes to my eating habit, and improve on other things to ensure that I stay well. I was fortunate enough to know many professionals in the health industry, so I took up the challenge to learn more about nutrition and intense workout options. My aim is to continue to inspire others by putting out ideas that could transform lives through social media, and work with other fitness influencers across the globe. As we head into the holiday season it is that time of year, when it seems like all bets are off with diets and workouts, we succumb to poor eating impulses, we become afraid

to keep our resolutions and lose track of exercise plans. We rationalize and negotiate with ourselves on how we will change, but only after the first of the year. And then everything is out of the window. I am going to walk you through a few simple strategies that can help break some of these habits, and put you in a position to start 2019 on a positive start. The advertised and well marketed diets have us anywhere between high protein, low fats and high protein, low carbs, or high fats, low carbs. The reality is that there is no ‘one size fits all’ diet. It is important to note that every sports activity requires different diets. Runners need

different fuel sources compared to bodybuilders for example.

Simple Strategies 1. Keep sugar to a minimum. It is a major cause of inflammation which impedes the body from absorbing nutrients. It is also a major contributor to the skyrocketing statistics on obesity and diabetes. 2. Stay away from processed or genetically monitored (GMO) foods. Many ingredients are there to provide flavor enhancing or a more appealing color. 3. The golden rule is to Read the boxes and cans before you put into your shopping cart. 4. Drink plenty of water. Some rules have you drinking a half ounce per body pound. A simpler rule is the 8x8 rule.

an iron skillet. Put sliced purple potatoes and asparagus tips. Spoon organic fig and ginger jam on top and let simmer for 8-10 minutes until the salmon is flaky and firms up. The jam creates a nice glaze on top. Again, prep to table in less than 20 minutes!

Drink eight 8-ounce glasses per day. Easy to remember and measure. Some studies have also found out that drinking a lot of water can help increase your metabolism resulting in losing weight. 5. When faced with tables of food at a get together, try and stay away from fried and combinations of heavy carbohydrates and fatty food. Discipline yourself by filling your plate with proteins and vegetables. Avoid heavy sauces and gravies and condiments that are heavy fat based - your energy levels will stay more consistent without the spiking and crashing of sugar levels. I come from an Italian family where my mom is constantly cooking amazing things. Many are not good for my diet, but

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

with a few alterations on some recipes I’ve been able to enjoy great traditions, but I would call them the 2.0 versions. Here are two quick ones that I hope you will try.

Iron Skillet Organic Cod • Take an organic cod filet and sauté on medium in a tablespoon of organic ghee. After about 8-10 minutes, add pre boiled gluten free pasta, organic baby peas, and fresh organic basil. Top with gluten free tomato sauce and bring to a simmer. Prep to plate in 20 minutes.

Iron Skillet Organic Salmon • Take an organic salmon filet and cook over medium with a tablespoon of organic ghee in

I hope you enjoyed my story. As we head into the holiday season I would ask that you do some simple things that I practice daily. Hold the door for someone, Do something nice for someone, Pray for those in need and less fortunate. These things do not cost a dime and the impact could be exponential! Here’s to a happy, healthy, and blessed holiday season and new year!

STEPPING OUT OF YOUR

COMFORT ZONE

LADY ANITA DUCKWORTH-BRADSHAW

This piece came to me whilst I was on a plane back to the UK after a mission trip…….

Looking down on the tiny images (houses, cars, roads, rivers, factories and other gigantic structures on ground), I suddenly realise that our life challenges are smaller than we make them.

Sitting comfortably and looking out of the window with excitement, I marvelled at the wonders of nature and man’s creative mind. With this feeling of joy I gave thanks to Jehovah God for the life and endless possibilities he has given to me. Looking down on the tiny images (houses, cars, roads, rivers, factories and other gigantic structures on ground), I suddenly realise that our life challenges are smaller than we make them. How? You may ask. This truth can be discovered by simply stepping out of your comfort zone and unto a flight of solution possibility. By detaching yourself from that challenge, you open yourself to finding a way forward. People often times say to us ‘THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX’. What thought comes to your mind when OUTSIDE THE BOX is mentioned? The ‘BOX’ can be your current challenging situation and by talking a step back, you gain immediate clarity of possible solutions to solving those scary looking challenges. You and I can rise above our challenges if we dare to step out of our comfort zone. How does Lady Anita deal with her challenges?

She responds positively to the situation knowing that every challenge we humans face in life, is an opportunity to explore our creative ability to do, have and become more. My little suggestions to the world of exploration of how to deal with personal and professional challenges are: 1. Acknowledge the challenge 2. Write the name of the challenge on a sheet of paper 3. Go on a fact-finding mission by making a list of possible solutions………….keep writing until………. 4. Take another sheet of paper and extract 10 top solutions from your first list 5. Take another sheet and extract 5 top solutions from your second list. Keep repeating this process until you have come up with the 3 top solutions. 6. TAKE ACTION. Until you get to work on your discoveries, your challenges remain without change and the frustration becomes the daily feelings. Remember to ask for support from those who are interested in your successes , because their support would make the journey a lot easier. 2018 is not far away from shutting her doors and never to be re-visited. Are there goals

that you desire to achieve before we finally say ‘GOOD BYE’ to 2018?
