PGMAG: Dr. Mariam, welcome to today’s interview with Lady Anita.
DMS: Thank you so much. It’s an honor to be here and share my journey with you and your readers.
PGMAG: Please briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Over the past four decades as an education strategist, I’ve had the privilege of dedicating my career to transforming the education landscape and empowering individuals through knowledge.
DMS: My name is Dr. Mariam Shaikh, and I am a lifelong advocate for education and women empowerment, and Founder & CEO of MS Education Consultants. Over the past four decades as an education strategist , I’ve had the privilege of dedicating my career to transforming the education landscape and empowering individuals through knowledge. My journey began in the 1980s, when I founded a nursery in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, with a vision to provide quality early education for children of diverse nationalities. That small initiative grew into the Sunflower Nursery, which served over 60 children and became the foundation of my lifelong commitment to education.
As my career evolved, I expanded my focus to higher education, taking on leadership roles at prominent institutions such as Heriot-Watt University, Canadian University Dubai, and Amity University. I also played a pivotal role in bringing international universities to the UAE, including establishing the University of New Brunswick’s campus in Dubai. These experiences allowed me to bridge global educational standards with the needs of the Gulf region, creating opportunities for students to thrive academically and professionally.
Beyond my work in institutions, I’ve always been driven by a desire to empower underserved communities. Inspired by my late mother’s passion for education and women’s empowerment, I continue to support initiatives that uplift women and orphaned girls, such as running an orphanage in Mumbai and mentoring women leaders.
The core of my work revolves around creating access and opportunities for those who need it most. Whether it’s guiding students toward their academic dreams, mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs, or
advocating for equality in leadership, my vision remains rooted in the belief that education is the most powerful tool for transformation and empowerment. This belief has guided me through every phase of my career and continues to inspire my work today.
PGMAG: What was the toughest challenge you had to overcome to become a global voice?
DMS: The toughest challenge I faced was breaking societal norms and stereotypes, especially as a woman stepping into leadership roles
Inspired by my late mother’s passion for education and women’s empowerment, I continue to support initiatives that uplift women and orphaned girls, such as running an orphanage in Mumbai and mentoring women leaders.
in education. In a field often dominated by traditional mindsets, navigating these challenges meant confronting biases—both overt and subtle—while consistently proving my abilities. Early in my career, it became clear that earning trust and respect in these spaces required not just competence but resilience and an unwavering commitment to my vision.
There were moments of self-doubt and setbacks when the barriers seemed insurmountable. However, those moments also became opportunities to grow stronger and more determined. Each challenge taught me the
importance of resilience—not just enduring the obstacles but using them as stepping stones to rise higher. It also reaffirmed my belief in authenticity as a leader: staying true to my values and purpose, even when it felt easier to conform.
Most importantly, I learned that leadership is not just about personal achievements but about creating a lasting
impact on others. My greatest motivation was, and remains, the opportunity to empower others—whether through mentoring, advocating for equitable education, or driving systemic change. These experiences shaped me into the leader I am today, and they fuel my ongoing commitment to breaking barriers and uplifting communities.
PGMAG: As an authority in the field of personal and professional development industry, what are the top five keys to winning in life?
DMS: Winning in life is about much more than external success; it’s about building a foundation of values and habits that sustain you through life’s highs and lows. Here are my top five principles:
• Authenticity: Stay true to who you are. In a world that often pressures us to conform, your uniqueness is your strength. Leading with integrity and purpose not
only earns trust but also inspires others.
• Resilience: Challenges and setbacks are inevitable, but they are also opportunities to grow. It’s not about avoiding failure but learning how to rise stronger each time.
• Collaboration: Success is rarely a solo journey. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, and focus on empowering others along the way. Together, we can achieve far more than we ever could alone.
• Vision: Having a clear
sense of purpose gives you direction and the courage to persevere, even in the face of obstacles. Keep your goals in sight and remain steadfast in your pursuit.
• Continuous Learning: The world is constantly evolving, and so should you. Stay curious, seek out new experiences, and embrace change as an opportunity to grow.
Each of these principles has played a vital role in shaping my personal and professional journey. They are not just keys
to success but to living a life of purpose, fulfillment, and impact.
PGMAG: In your opinion as a leader, what are the key elements for business growth?
DMS: Business growth is rooted in several foundational elements, the first of which is a clear and strategic vision. Leaders must define a longterm purpose that aligns with their organization's goals and inspires the entire team to work towards a shared mission. This vision acts as a guiding light, ensuring that every decision and action taken contributes meaningfully to the larger objectives of the business. Without this clarity, it’s easy for teams to lose focus or direction.
Innovation is another critical driver of growth. In today’s fast-paced and competitive world, businesses that embrace change, adopt new technologies, and prioritize creativity are the ones that remain relevant. Innovation is not just about developing new products or services; it’s also about
refining processes, improving customer experiences, and finding ways to operate more efficiently. It’s the willingness to think outside the box and embrace the unknown that often differentiates a thriving business from a stagnant one. Equally important is adaptability. Markets are ever-evolving, and challenges can arise unexpectedly. A successful leader must be prepared to pivot strategies, recalibrate goals, and navigate uncertainties with confidence. This flexibility is what enables businesses to not only survive disruptions but also seize opportunities that come with change. Adaptability is about maintaining a proactive mindset and ensuring that the organization is resilient in the face of challenges.
A strong focus on people—both employees and customers—is another cornerstone of growth. Empowering your team by creating a supportive and collaborative work environment is crucial. Employees who feel valued and motivated are more engaged and invested in the organization’s success. Investing in their professional
development, recognizing their contributions, and fostering a culture of trust can unleash their full potential, driving the business forward.
Lastly, customercentric strategies cannot be overlooked. Truly understanding your audience, listening to their feedback, and consistently meeting or exceeding their expectations builds trust and loyalty. Strong customer relationships are the foundation for sustained success, as they lead to repeat business, positive word-of-mouth, and longterm partnerships. By placing people—both customers and employees—at the center of your strategies, businesses can create sustainable growth and lay the groundwork for enduring success.
PGMAG: Congratulations on your achievements and awards received for your contribution in the educational industry. Looking back on the journey you have made as a woman in leadership, what would you say was your key motivation?
DMS: Thank you so much!
My key motivation has always been the desire to create opportunities for others to succeed. Education has the power to transform lives, and knowing that my work can make that transformation possible is what drives me every day. Whether it’s helping students achieve their academic dreams, guiding them toward scholarships, or mentoring young leaders, I find immense fulfillment in being a catalyst for change.
Throughout my journey, I have also been inspired by the resilience of the people I work with—students, colleagues, and women striving to break barriers. Every success story, no matter how small, reinforces my belief in the work I do. It’s not just about the individual achievements but the ripple effect those achievements create, shaping communities and inspiring others to aim higher.
As a woman in leadership, I’ve faced my share of challenges, but each one has made me more determined to pave the way for others. I see my journey as a testament to what

is possible when we believe in ourselves and support each other. This sense of purpose, coupled with the knowledge that I’m making a difference, continues to fuel my passion and commitment to education and empowerment.
PGMAG: What could be done to encourage more women take up leadership roles?
DMS: Encouraging more women to step into leadership roles requires intentional actions that dismantle barriers and create supportive ecosystems. The first step is implementing mentorship programs that connect women with experienced leaders
who can guide them through the challenges of leadership. Mentors provide valuable insights, encouragement, and strategies to help women navigate their journeys, fostering confidence and resilience along the way. Flexibility in opportunities is another crucial element, as many women balance professional aspirations with personal responsibilities. Offering flexible work arrangements, such as hybrid models or adjustable schedules, ensures that women have the space to thrive both personally and professionally. This adaptability not only helps women grow but also demonstrates an organization’s commitment to their success. Equally important is celebrating women’s achievements publicly. Highlighting their successes normalizes the idea of women in leadership and provides visible role models for aspiring leaders. Representation matters, and seeing women excel in leadership inspires the next generation to aim high and break barriers.
Addressing systemic barriers is essential to creating sustainable
change. This includes providing equitable access to education, addressing workplace discrimination, and tackling unconscious bias. Organizations must actively promote inclusivity by creating policies that prioritize diversity and by fostering an environment where women feel valued and heard.
Lastly, empowering women to believe in their potential is vital. Encouragement to take risks, embrace challenges, and pursue ambitions without fear builds a culture of confidence. When women are supported and given opportunities to lead, they become unstoppable forces for progress, driving innovation and transformation across industries.
PGMAG: Finally, what would you say to your younger self?
DMS: If I could speak to my younger self, I would say: Trust the journey, even when it feels uncertain. Every challenge you face will shape you into the leader you are meant to become. The road may not always be clear, but every setback is a stepping stone
that teaches you resilience, patience, and strength. Trust that these experiences will guide you toward your purpose. I would also remind myself to dream big and never fear failure. The boldest dreams often lead to the most meaningful impacts. Success is not about avoiding mistakes; it’s about learning from them and using those lessons to move forward with determination and courage. There is power in embracing risks and stepping out of your comfort zone, and it is through these moments that true growth happens.
Another key lesson I would share is the importance of embracing your uniqueness. What sets you apart is your greatest strength. Don’t let societal expectations or external pressures diminish your individuality. Instead, lean into it, and let it guide your path as a leader.
Finally, I’d emphasize the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people— those who uplift and inspire you, challenge you to grow, and share your values. Stay grounded in your principles
and always focus on making a positive difference in the lives of others. The journey may not always be easy, but every step, every challenge, and every victory will be worth it.
PGMAG: Thank you for sharing your brilliance with us.
DSM: Thank you for giving me this platform. It’s been a pleasure to reflect on my journey and share my insights. I hope these stories inspire others to embrace their potential, push past barriers, and lead with purpose. Together, we can create a world where empowerment and opportunity are accessible to all.

CERTIFIED HOLISTIC HEALTH PRACTITIONER
“My father God and I are one and I am conscious of being. He is the beginning and the end which for me means he is always where I am.”
So, if God is the creator of everything then God is not outside of us, he is within us; a conception of ourselves perfectly in sync with who we are meant to be. We have all been equipped to live joyfully, fulfilled and living on purpose each and every day. If you are not completely connected to Source, to God, to the Universe, you are not connected to your heart or the freedom that it brings.
Rising in consciousness to be what you are conscious of being is the growth within us that makes us who we are. When people often say, “become your higher self”, they have forgotten that you already are. You are just vibrating at a lower frequency so you will make bad decisions, allow fear and doubt to rise within you and your belief in God and you diminishes.
By the time we are 8 years old we are preconditioned to believe what our surroundings have taught us. The norms and values of your parents, babysitters, teachers, neighbours, priests, pastors, and so on. We are literally being set up with a set of paradigms that will carry us through life. The biggest issue with this is that we also carry the bad, disempowering and downright nasty ones also.
You know the sayings you grew up with:
Money doesn’t grow on trees
The Wealthy are nasty
Rich people are mean
You are not smart enough for that
Just smile and look pretty Don’t speak unless spoken to
This list can go on for pages but you get the idea. We all have someone who was well meaning in our lives that said a number of these and because we hold that person in high esteem we take what they say literally. The biggest issue
with this is that we hold on to these beliefs and when we are trying to be better people, we can see these well meaning people saying these over and over and it stops us from moving forward. Remember that they are working on things they learned as a child and not what they learned to rewire as adults. We all have limiting paradigms that we project onto each other and live day to day.
Funny paradigm story moment. Someone once said that they cut the ends off of a ham every Christmas before putting it in the roasting pan. They were asked why they did it and they replied that they did what their momma did. So they went back and asked momma why and she said because grandma did. So they asked grandma and she said “it was the only way it would fit into the pan!”. So stop cutting off the ends of your hams if it already fits the pan!! We do what we learn sometimes without question and believe it to be the truth. We must learn to question.
It’s the decisions we make that shape our lives. Good or bad, right or wrong, they all structure our path and
By the time we are 8 years old we are preconditioned to believe what our surroundings have taught us. The norms and values of your parents, babysitters, teachers, neighbours, priests, pastors, and so on.
our existence. Are you good at decision making? Do you second guess yourself? We sometimes have to sit on the ledge and decide if we are grabbing the parachute and going where we see excitement and adventure or are we going to back away from the ledge for another day and stay small, stuck and frustrated - not because we love these feeling but because they are comfortable to us and we lack the belief and faith in ourselves to move off the ledge to something new and exciting. That being said it is the same when getting a job or into a relationship. We come with preconceived notions of the experience we are going to have instead of crafting and creating what it is we want to experience. Our mind will always look for evidence of why something may or may not happen and it looks to past experiences first. So if your past experience was bad
or joyous, that is where it will expect the next experience to go. Luckily, we can change the outcome of any scenario and change the evidence in our mind's eye.
ADDING FAITH
Belief when challenged is simply doubt. It is doubting the outcome of something. If we have complete faith that we understand and know that what we desire is coming, it will come. Once we doubt it then we lose faith in God, deflect our energy toward fear and we lose the desire, and focus on what we do not. So it does not come into your life. Your fear and doubt won.
Think of faith as something that you already know. When you walk out of your house you have 100% faith in staying grounded thanks to gravity. You do not have to judge it or hope it happens. It just does. When your beliefs are 100
% faith based in your God given destiny and your ability to deliver it, you are the most loving, kind and open person you can become. This is where and when you are in complete alignment with God our Father in heaven and he is pleased that you are being your true and perfect self as he had intended. You are happy, completely happy in all thoughts, feelings and actions. You can from this vantage point, do, be and have whatever your heart desires in alignment with God. There are those who are living tremendously fulfilled lives, helping others and providing incredible value to this world. They are rich beyond measure in money, relationships, health and a blessed knowing that what they are doing is always going to bear fruit for themselves and others. This
can all be yours – You just have to allow it to happen. No judgements, no worries, just faith that what will be will be. Are you ready to step up to the person you already are in your Soul? You are not broken. No one needs to fix you. You just need to allow God in and he will work miracles in and through you.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

IT'S TIME TO DUST YOURSELF OFF!
TAMMI DURDEN
CEO of Tammi Durden INTL LLC Transforming Women Inside and OUT
As we come to the close of 2024, more than likely you are saturated with residue that has accumulated over the year...some good and some not so good. As we take a moment to reflect, I think it is important to celebrate our wins and learn from our losses. Every victory has the potential to take us higher if we seize the moment and build on it. If we possess the courage to learn from our losses and apply the lessons we will grow and evolve into better people.
You may be thinking, this sounds good in theory, but how can I dust myself off? Well, I'm glad you asked. Here are a few strategies that can help.
FIRST: GET CENTERED
Life can be full of constant hustle and bustle. Maybe you are experiencing feelings of stress, exhaustion, overwhelm, and possibly burn-out. Now is the time to slow down, dust off that residue and get centered! Take advantage of the holidays and reserve some time for yourself. Retreat to your secret place and refill your cup with love, joy, peace, and all the good that is available. Keep in mind, you cannot give what you do not have. What's in the cup is for you
and the overflow from the cup is what you have to give to others. Simple practices such as Meditation, Gratitude, Journaling, Prayer, Affirmations, Visualization, and even Exercise can help you get centered. Once you engage in these activities you will become clearer and more harmonious.
SECOND: RENEW YOUR MIND
Change your thinking and change your world. To renew means to make new, fresh, or strong again. It's time dust off the residue of your mind and clear the mental clutter! Maybe
Life can be full of constant hustle and bustle. Maybe you are experiencing feelings of stress, exhaustion, overwhelm, and possibly burn-out. Now is the time to slow down, dust off that residue and get centered!
you didn't reach all of your goals in 2024 and you are experiencing thoughts and feelings of disappointment, failure, and regret. Shake it off and get rid of the stinking thinking! This is critical because you become what you think about. Challenge yourself to be intentional about monitoring your thoughts and create a conscious interrupt when negative thoughts invade your mind and replace them with positive thoughts. Protect your peace at all cost. Also, reading mind shifting books, listening to positive messages, and inspiring songs can shift your frame of thinking and get you back on track.
THIRD: REMOVE FATAL DISTRACTIONS
Fatal distractions...we all experience them and it is definitely time to dust them off! Fatal distractions are sent to divert your destiny and sabotage your success. This can be a person, place or thing and often times toxic.
Evaluate your relationships and surround yourself with positive, progressive people that have your best interest at heart. Believe it or not, you are the sum total of the people you surround yourself with. It may be time to elevate your relationships and form new connections outside of your
comfort zone with people that inspire and motivate you to greatness.
Finally, you have the power to design and create your life. Setbacks only come to make you stronger. Know that you have what it takes to win. It's time to Dust Yourself Off and make your next year absolutely unforgettable!

GUT HEALTH
“YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT”.
Have you noticed almost every time that you are on social
media, watching T.V, that there are adverts talking and focusing on microbiome and gut health? Various marketing persons shared different supplements on how to improve the gut?
Some state that it’s a trend. Why the sudden ‘trend’? Is it a ‘trend’? Or have we been walking around without knowing that we had a central system that supports every part of the other systems within our bodies that requires
the best we can do for our body? Let’s identify how we can improve our mind, body and soul.
Why I become interested with microbiome?
I love to learn, secondly, I was having health issues and was very unwell for 15 years due to cancer treatment. I had tried many different approaches to aid my wellbeing, seeking guidance from medical practitioners who were unable to help me. Why, because they couldn’t guide me or to inform me of the consequences of the treatments drastically impacting my gut. Therefore, I spent16 years working out what I needed for me. I eventually discovered that I needed to change my diet and supplements due to the microbiome in my gut being compromised and damaged.
What is microbiome?
Microbiome is a community of micro-organisms (or microbes) that live in the gut which contains 70%-80% of the body’s immune cells. The gut aids and trains the immune system to identify harmful bacteria, viruses, protozoa and archaea. The microbes assist in the digestion processing of
Healthy microbes are being damaged due to some farming practices that are not helping you, causing a lack of nutrients and minerals in foods. This affects our bodies in so many ways by destroying the healthy microbiomes.
food that produces energy. In the large intestine, the microbe’s breakdown starches and fibre, helps the immune system to develop and protect, microbes’ synthesis certain mineral and amino acids which are molecules combined to form proteins.
What percentage of good and bad bacteria should the gut contain?
The gut should contain 85% good bacteria and 15 % bad bacteria. However, this is not the case for many individuals. Good bacteria in the gut for many individuals are 15% good and the bad bacteria is 85%. Of course this may vary from person to person.
What
contributes to poor gut health?
Here are a few factors of what contributes to poor gut health. Some farming practices use herbicides. pesticides, rodenticides, fungicides which are being sprayed into the soils and onto fruits and vegetables. Therefore, preventing the fruits and vegetables to develop the necessary vitamins and nutrients from the soil. Crops are being picked before they ripen hence the nutrients aren’t at their full potency, and being delivered to stores in an unripen state.
Also, more and more individuals through many years of being programmed to be dependent upon the medication to help them heal. Once given a particular drug, they are given little or no advice on to how the gut needs natutal and organic additional support to realign itself. Of course we do need medication, there is a time, a place to aid us towards wellbeing.
What other practices damage the gut?
Healthy microbes are being damaged due to some farming practices that are not helping you, causing a lack of nutrients and minerals in foods. This affects our bodies in so many
ways by destroying the healthy microbiomes. Thus, the body is unable be metabolically break down the foods and distribute them effectively because off the endotoxins a poisonous substance present in the immune system. Endotoxins is a molecule found in the outer membrane of the gramnegative bacteria such as E-coli created in the gut, it is released, and the bad bacteria grow and divide. The latter can also cause the bacterial cell walls to breakdown and leaky gut occurs and may/can eventually cause a series of problems. This leads to a cycle of dysfunction between the gut, the brain and other parts of the body, causing inflammation, fever, septic leading to shock then death.
Here are a few health conditions that affect the microbiome in the gut.
• Diabetes
• Mental health
• Brain fog
• Bloating
• Sugar cravings
• Digestive issues
• IBS
• Hormone dysfunction
• Weight loss
• Weight gain
• Hypertension (High blood pressure
• Skin problems
• Muscular aches and pains
• Heart disease
• Hypotension (Low blood pressure)
• Respiratory failure
How can you manage and maintain elite gut health?
• A change of diet with better nutrition to include:
• Plant-based products
• Fish
• Eat more fruits and vegetables (organic wherever possible) which have lower levels of endotoxins
• Minimize meat and dairy products they contain more endotoxins
• Exercising regularly
• Avoid/eliminate process foods
• Change sleeping habits
• Avoid stress
• And much more.
Bridge the gap of lost nutrients and minerals by:
• Consuming the best supplements

WOMAN! A DIFFERENCE MAKER
JOSEPHINE ITSUOKOR
Who is a woman? A woman is that unique adult female creation of God, she is that unique creation that influences and shapes society through her intellectual capabilities.
A woman is that person who makes a positive impact and change in other people's lives, community and the world at large.
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more - you are a difference maker."
Every female child is born a difference maker. That is why you see in a home where you have a boy child, the girl child is often given the responsibility to care for her siblings, even when they are older than her. There is a part of a woman that is wired inside from birth to care and nurture her environment, it's just natural! A
woman is a co -creator with God because the ability to nurture every seed is in her.
Every female child is born a difference maker. That is why you see in a home where you have a boy child, the girl child is often given the responsibility to care for her siblings, even when they are older than her.
I will share a little of my story, at age 10 my parents stopped me from going to school, their reason was to help take care of the family. I have 2 elder brothers, I was a child but they understood the power of a woman as a

difference maker,
Most times, girls are left with home chores.
Ask yourself why the girl child and not a male child?
I will give you the answer.. A woman is a difference maker. She makes something out of nothing, she puts smiles on others faces, she creates, nurtures, she even cries when she shouldn't.
I can boldly say "where there's a woman there's magic". All your strengths and weaknesses put together are what makes you a difference maker, so be proud of yourself as a woman. I'm proudly a woman.
women. Today's definition has changed because we have good memories of women who have stood out to make a difference in various fields of life.
In education and art we have women like Oprah Winfrey, mother Theresa, Winnee Mandela, Angela Merkel and too numerous to count. These women stood up, demonstrated the power of courage, resilience and determination as difference makers in their various fields and touched lives in positive ways.
Their stories inspired and taught me that I can be a difference maker no matter the environmental or societal barrier.
I was denied the opportunity to go to secondary school after my primary school education by my parents, but with the power of resilience and determination I saw myself through college and today I don't want any child, male or female to suffer what I suffered.
get sound and quality early childhood and basic education. I'm committed to building and shaping young minds with knowledge, confidence and courage to become great leaders of our next generation. I believe in the power of empowering women to make a difference starting from their homes and communities. When a woman is empowered, the home is empowered and when the home is empowered, the community is empowered and this affects the society and the world at large. Empower a woman, you have empowered a nation.
During COVID-19, I and my team reached out to women in my community, and we distributed food items to them.
Just before COVID, I organized a workshop for children. We had over 100 children taught different skills like baking, beads making, teaching them personal hygiene etc.
Though families, environment and society tend to have limited
I went into education with the passion to see children
In May this year I was given the opportunity to speak with young girls and boys, and share my story with them. I have taken it as my responsibility
to educate and equip young people especially women that they are created for more and they can be more.
I'm sharing my story to inspire you as a woman to stand up and stand tall against all barriers and limitations. You can put a smile on other's faces, just start from where you are!
Are there challenges? Yes, can you overcome them? yes. I am a woman, I'm born to make a difference, I won't stop myself and nothing can stop me
Start from where you are by doing the following
ACTION POINT:
Inspire others through your words, actions and achievements. Share your experiences with other women.
Show empathy, and compassion: Demonstrate kindness, understanding and concern for other women as this can foster a sense of community and connection.
Drive a positive change: Identify a problem or challenge.
A woman goes through challenges, faces setbacks, hard times, yet persists in adapting and learning from their experiences. Even with all their challenges, they still put a smile on other's faces. To give you a better understanding, no matter what a mother is going through she doesn't forget her child.
Work towards creating a solution especially for women at all ages. I met a young woman, she was an 18 year old whom the father and mother had written off as a useless girl, that really made her go into all kinds of negative vices but I was able to intervene through my words, actions and a show of genuine love, today she and her family are all happy together.
TAKE INITIATIVE
Don't wait for others to act, step up and take the lead in your family, work place, school, anywhere you find yourself to
lead the right way.
*Persevere through challenges: I can say this is one of the greatest virtues of a woman.

*You are a difference maker

*We are women, we are difference makers.
I want to encourage women, even men to support, and mentor women.
Think about that woman in your phase of influence ,your daughter, your wife, niece and sister.
Join us to mentor and support women and children.
Remember when a woman is empowered the world can become a safe and better place for all. Let's do it together now!

I AM STEPPING INTO MY POWER OF SELF CARE
JASWINDER CHALLI
PRIORITISING SELF CARE
When we use the word priority, we are saying that it’s at the top of the list and highly important, it’s the first thing above all else. So, in this context we are looking at it in terms of value, because values are important to us and play a significant role in our lives.
If we can then ensure that we carry out this priority we need to observe our boundaries
as this gives us clear distinctions of what is on the inside and outside of that line and it is this discernment that enables us to place importance on that priority.
When people struggle with ensuring adequate relaxation, it’s because the boundaries are not clear, for example, someone who is tired after a days work but then still ends up doing some other chores instead of relaxing.
When
people struggle with ensuring adequate relaxation, it’s because the boundaries are not clear, for example, someone who is tired after a days work but then still ends up doing some other chores instead of relaxing.
Or someone asks them for a favour and they feel they have to oblige. There are many examples for when we don’t know our boundary to discern.
WHY WE MAY STRUGGLE TO RELAX.
As a hypnotherapist, I work with transforming the subconscious to ensure that desired changes are made for positive outcomes.
So when clients come to me and have not followed adequate self care routines, it’s probably because they never learned, or a past trauma threw them off balance, and it could even be a very busy phase of life that took over.
What happens is things become ‘patterns’ out of ‘habit’, and then we end up repeating the same behaviours and mostly on a subconscious level.
This can be developed and behaviour becomes very routine orientated, for some it can be very robotic and what I mean by that is that the individual is not ‘consciously aware’ of their behaviour and it’s being driven unconsciously until it’s brought into the present moment and we can start to see things more clearly.
I want to add two quotes here:
Carl Jung: Until you make the unconsious, concious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.
Johnny Nash: I can see clearly now, the rain has gone.
CREATING CHANGE
Firstly, it is important that you give yourself ‘permission’ that you can do this without guilt and judgement. When boundaries have been confused, it can feel
overwhelming initially to make changes to break habits.
Secondly, you have to learn to feel that you ‘deserve’ time for yourself and hold yourself as important and valuable.
Thirdly, it is identifying what is needed in ‘self care’ and how this will be achieved because it is a huge area and everyone is different.
One person may need to go more in the outdoors and therefore a walk in nature could be a starting point.
Another person may need to have better eating habits and therefore be looking at healthy eating and nutrition. Cooking in silence and being mindful can be a form of relaxation in itself and then to sit and eat can also be a very relaxing and mindful ritual.
Somebody else’s self care may be needing more sleep for rest and recuperation and therefore, ensuring time is made for this to happen.
Getting information in the Initial Consultation is crucial to
enable the right treatment plan catered for relaxation and self care.
I myself love my twice weekly swim and sauna, it is both relaxing and rejuvenating. Water for me is very important and sometimes even if I’m overtired, I let the water carry and hold me. I don’t constantly swim up and down, I do some walking and stretching too and then go and sit in the steam room to let all my muscles relax but also clear out my skin and sinuses, as the steam is an all round purifier.
I come out of the gym feeling so relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated and always enjoy a deep relaxed sleep at night.
Sometimes I need the fresh air and so go for a nature walk along the river and take a break and sit on the bench watching the swans and the water. Or I might sit under the trees and listen to the birds allowing myself to go into a mild trance like relaxation and becoming aware of my senses.
Once a week, I do a ritualistic cooking sessions that involves

mindfulness awareness. The process of creating, nurturing and nourishing are intentions of health abundance for the body, mind and soul.
Sometimes, I will just take myself off to a massage therapist, or go for a beauty treatment, or maybe even go off on a yoga retreat. We all need to find out what it is we
need and our client needs and then work with that.
Fourthly, be kind to yourself and practice self compassion, for self love has to start with YOU!

Powerful Global Women Foundation (Powerhouse Charity) was founded in 20l6 in Nigeria, West Africa, by Lady Anita Duckworth-Bradshaw. The core objective of this organization is to transform the lives of women and children, through various projects centred around the need of the service group.
In 20l6 Lady Anita single handedly fed over 400 children as part of “project feed l000 children globally”, and held an empowerment conference for the women. Through this project, so many women have gone to do great things with the knowledge they gained from the event.
She recently held a life transforming event for women in Lagos, Nigeria as part of International women’s month celebration 20l8. The turnout was very encouraging. She is working towards supporting more families to keep their children and wards in school through” project back-to-school” starting in September 20l8.
We are seeking for global support from individuals and organisations who would love to be a part of this service to humanity.
