Gut Health

“YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT”.

Have you noticed almost every time that you are on social media, watching T.V, that there are adverts talking and focusing on microbiome and gut health? Various marketing persons shared different supplements on how to improve the gut?

Some state that it’s a trend. Why the sudden ‘trend’? Is it a ‘trend’? Or have we been walking around without knowing that we had a central system that supports every part of the other systems within our bodies that requires the best we can do for our body? Let’s identify how we can improve our mind, body and soul.

Why I become interested with microbiome?

I love to learn, secondly, I was having health issues and was very unwell for 15 years due to cancer treatment. I had tried many different approaches to aid my wellbeing, seeking guidance from medical practitioners who were unable to help me. Why, because they couldn’t guide me or to inform me of the consequences of the treatments drastically impacting my gut. Therefore, I spent16 years working out what I needed for me. I eventually discovered that I needed to change my diet and supplements due to the microbiome in my gut being compromised and damaged.

What is microbiome?

Microbiome is a community of micro-organisms (or microbes) that live in the gut which contains 70%-80% of the body’s immune cells. The gut aids and trains the immune system to identify harmful bacteria, viruses, protozoa and archaea. The microbes assist in the digestion processing of food that produces energy. In the large intestine, the microbe’s breakdown starches and fibre, helps the immune system to develop and protect, microbes’ synthesis certain mineral and amino acids which are molecules combined to form proteins.

What percentage of good and bad bacteria should the gut contain?

The gut should contain 85% good bacteria and 15 % bad bacteria. However, this is not the case for many individuals. Good bacteria in the gut for many individuals are 15% good and the bad bacteria is 85%. Of course this may vary from person to person.

What contributes to poor gut health?

Here are a few factors of what contributes to poor gut health. Some farming practices use herbicides. pesticides, rodenticides, fungicides which are being sprayed into the soils and onto fruits and vegetables. Therefore, preventing the fruits and vegetables to develop the necessary vitamins and nutrients from the soil. Crops are being picked before they ripen hence the nutrients aren’t at their full potency, and being delivered to stores in an unripen state.

Also, more and more individuals through many years of being programmed to be dependent upon the medication to help them heal. Once given a particular drug, they are given little or no advice on to how the gut needs natutal and organic additional support to realign itself. Of course we do need medication, there is a time, a place to aid us towards wellbeing.

What other practices damage the gut?

Healthy microbes are being damaged due to some farming practices that are not helping you, causing a lack of nutrients and minerals in foods. This affects our bodies in so many ways by destroying the healthy microbiome.

Thus, the body is unable be metabolically break down the foods and distribute them effectively because off the endotoxins a poisonous substance present in the immune system. Endotoxins is a molecule found in the outer membrane of the gramnegative bacteria such as E-coli created in the gut, it is released, and the bad bacteria grow and divide. The latter can also cause the bacterial cell walls to breakdown and leaky gut occurs and may/can eventually cause a series of problems. This leads to a cycle of dysfunction between the gut, the brain and other parts of the body, causing inflammation, fever, septic leading to shock then death.

Here are a few health conditions that affect the microbiome in the gut.

• Diabetes

• Mental health

• Brain fog

• Bloating

• Sugar cravings

• Digestive issues

• IBS

• Hormone dysfunction

• Weight loss

• Weight gain

• Hypertension (High blood pressure

• Skin problems

• Muscular aches and pains

• Heart disease

• Hypotension (Low blood pressure)

• Respiratory failure

How can you manage and maintain elite gut health?

• A change of diet with better nutrition to include:

• Plant-based products

• Fish

• Eat more fruits and vegetables (organic wherever possible) which have lower levels of endotoxins

• Minimize meat and dairy products they contain more endotoxins

• Exercising regularly

• Avoid/eliminate process foods

• Change sleeping habits

• Avoid stress

• And much more.

Bridge the gap of lost nutrients and minerals by:

• Consuming the best supplements

• Identify natural and registered organic supplement suppliers

• Check that the supplement supplier is regularly testing ingredients that are sent to them from organic farmers to produce high quality supplements.

• Find an elite gut mentor/ coach who can either provide you with 1:1 nutrition and supplement coaching programming or a self-care programme. This will aid you to begin to detox and change the types of food you consume and learn how to maintain the changes.

NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH.
