WOMAN! A DIFFERENCE MAKER
Josephine Itsuokor
Who is a woman? A woman is that unique adult female creation of God, she is that unique creation that influences and shapes society through her intellectual capabilities.
A woman is that person who makes a positive impact and change in other people's lives, community and the world at large.
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more - you are a difference maker."
Every female child is born a difference maker. That is why you see in a home where you have a boy child, the girl child is often given the responsibility to care for her siblings, even when they are older than her.
There is a part of a woman that is wired inside from birth to care and nurture her environment, it's just natural! A woman is a co -creator with God because the ability to nurture every seed is in her.
I will share a little of my story, at age 10 my parents stopped me from going to school, their reason was to help take care of the family. I have 2 elder brothers, I was a child but they understood the power of a woman as a difference maker, women. Today's definition has changed because we have good memories of women who have stood out to make a difference in various fields of life. get sound and quality early childhood and basic education. I'm committed to building and shaping young minds with knowledge, confidence and courage to become great leaders of our next generation. I believe in the power of empowering women to make a difference starting from their homes and communities. When a woman is empowered, the home is empowered and when the home is empowered, the community is empowered and this affects the society and the world at large. Empower a woman, you have empowered a nation.
Most times, girls are left with home chores.
Ask yourself why the girl child and not a male child?
I will give you the answer..
A woman is a difference maker. She makes something out of nothing, she puts smiles on others faces, she creates, nurtures, she even cries when she shouldn't.
I can boldly say "where there's a woman there's magic". All your strengths and weaknesses put together are what makes you a difference maker, so be proud of yourself as a woman. I'm proudly a woman.
In education and art we have women like Oprah Winfrey, mother Theresa, Winnee Mandela, Angela Merkel and too numerous to count. These women stood up, demonstrated the power of courage, resilience and determination as difference makers in their various fields and touched lives in positive ways.
Their stories inspired and taught me that I can be a difference maker no matter the environmental or societal barrier.
I was denied the opportunity to go to secondary school after my primary school education by my parents, but with the power of resilience and determination I saw myself through college and today I don't want any child, male or female to suffer what I suffered.
During COVID-19, I and my team reached out to women in my community, and we distributed food items to them.
Just before COVID, I organized a workshop for children. We had over 100 children taught different skills like baking, beads making, teaching them personal hygiene etc.
Though families, environment and society tend to have limited
I went into education with the passion to see children
In May this year I was given the opportunity to speak with young girls and boys, and share my story with them. I have taken it as my responsibility to educate and equip young people especially women that they are created for more and they can be more.
I'm sharing my story to inspire you as a woman to stand up and stand tall against all barriers and limitations. You can put a smile on other's faces, just start from where you are!
Are there challenges? Yes, can you overcome them? yes. I am a woman, I'm born to make a difference, I won't stop myself and nothing can stop me
Start from where you are by doing the following
ACTION POINT:
Inspire others through your words, actions and achievements. Share your experiences with other women.
Show empathy, and compassion: Demonstrate kindness, understanding and concern for other women as this can foster a sense of community and connection.
Drive a positive change: Identify a problem or challenge.
A woman goes through challenges, faces setbacks, hard times, yet persists in adapting and learning from their experiences. Even with all their challenges, they still put a smile on other's faces. To give you a better understanding, no matter what a mother is going through she doesn't forget her child.
Work towards creating a solution especially for women at all ages. I met a young woman, she was an 18 year old whom the father and mother had written off as a useless girl, that really made her go into all kinds of negative vices but I was able to intervene through my words, actions and a show of genuine love, today she and her family are all happy together.
Take Initiative
Don't wait for others to act, step up and take the lead in your family, work place, school, anywhere you find yourself to lead the right way.
*Persevere through challenges: I can say this is one of the greatest virtues of a woman.
