I AM STEPPING INTO MY POWER OF SELF CARE

Prioritising Self Care
When we use the word priority, we are saying that it’s at the top of the list and highly important, it’s the first thing above all else. So, in this context we are looking at it in terms of value, because values are important to us and play a significant role in our lives.
If we can then ensure that we carry out this priority we need to observe our boundaries as this gives us clear distinctions of what is on the inside and outside of that line and it is this discernment that enables us to place importance on that priority. people struggle with ensuring adequate relaxation, it’s because the boundaries are not clear, for example, someone who is tired after a days work but then still ends up doing some other chores instead of relaxing.
When people struggle with ensuring adequate relaxation, it’s because the boundaries are not clear, for example, someone who is tired after a days work but then still ends up doing some other chores instead of relaxing.
Or someone asks them for a favour and they feel they have to oblige. There are many examples for when we don’t know our boundary to discern.
WHY WE MAY STRUGGLE TO RELAX.
As a hypnotherapist, I work with transforming the subconscious to ensure that desired changes are made for positive outcomes.
So when clients come to me and have not followed adequate self care routines, it’s probably because they never learned, or a past trauma threw them off balance, and it could even be a very busy phase of life that took over.
What happens is things become ‘patterns’ out of ‘habit’, and then we end up repeating the same behaviours and mostly on a subconscious level.
This can be developed and behaviour becomes very routine orientated, for some it can be very robotic and what I mean by that is that the individual is not ‘consciously aware’ of their behaviour and it’s being driven unconsciously until it’s brought into the present moment and we can start to see things more clearly.
I want to add two quotes here:
Carl Jung: Until you make the unconsious, concious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.
Johnny Nash: I can see clearly now, the rain has gone.
Creating Change
Firstly, it is important that you give yourself ‘permission’ that you can do this without guilt and judgement. When boundaries have been confused, it can feel overwhelming initially to make changes to break habits.
Secondly, you have to learn to feel that you ‘deserve’ time for yourself and hold yourself as important and valuable.
Thirdly, it is identifying what is needed in ‘self care’ and how this will be achieved because it is a huge area and everyone is different.
One person may need to go more in the outdoors and therefore a walk in nature could be a starting point.
Another person may need to have better eating habits and therefore be looking at healthy eating and nutrition. Cooking in silence and being mindful can be a form of relaxation in itself and then to sit and eat can also be a very relaxing and mindful ritual.
Somebody else’s self care may be needing more sleep for rest and recuperation and therefore, ensuring time is made for this to happen.
Getting information in the Initial Consultation is crucial to enable the right treatment plan catered for relaxation and self care.
I myself love my twice weekly swim and sauna, it is both relaxing and rejuvenating. Water for me is very important and sometimes even if I’m overtired, I let the water carry and hold me. I don’t constantly swim up and down, I do some walking and stretching too and then go and sit in the steam room to let all my muscles relax but also clear out my skin and sinuses, as the steam is an all round purifier.
I come out of the gym feeling so relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated and always enjoy a deep relaxed sleep at night.
Sometimes I need the fresh air and so go for a nature walk along the river and take a break and sit on the bench watching the swans and the water.
Or I might sit under the trees and listen to the birds allowing myself to go into a mild trance like relaxation and becoming aware of my senses.
Once a week, I do a ritualistic cooking sessions that involves mindfulness awareness. The process of creating, nurturing and nourishing are intentions of health abundance for the body, mind and soul.
Sometimes, I will just take myself off to a massage therapist, or go for a beauty treatment, or maybe even go off on a yoga retreat. We all need to find out what it is we need and our client needs and then work with that.
Fourthly, be kind to yourself and practice self compassion, for self love has to start with YOU!
