Leonor Fini (1908-1996) held her first solo exhibition in Paris in 1935 and thereby became acquainted with, and to some extent influenced by, leading Surrealists such as Ernst and Magritte. Fini’s work often contained surrealist elements but by the 1940s also demonstrated her interest in nature’s cycles of generation and decay. Later in her career recurring sexual themes appeared involving sphinxes, nudes and nymphets

Olga Lehmann

Olga Lehmann 1921-2001. After being awarded a scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art in 1929, Olga Lehmann excelled as an artist winning several prizes before graduating in 1934. She went on to pursue a career of extraordinary versatility, encompassing the worlds of mural painting, portraiture, work as a war artist, graphic design, film and television.

David Wood

These very accomplished life drawings of nudes by David Wood were made using a technique called stump work or stump drawing in which a very soft pencil, crayon or piece of charcoal was held in a twist or stump of paper. They were made in the famous Académie Julian in Paris around 1911-12, a time when it was still thought a good idea that artists should learn to draw.

All drawings are 24.5 x 19 inches on Ingres or Michallet paper. They date from 1911 and 1912. The drawings are in studio condition, minor tears and scuffs ignored. Some have been stamped with the name Henri Royer or with the studio address 31 Rue du Dragon.
