David Wood
These very accomplished life drawings of nudes by David Wood were made using a technique called stump work or stump drawing in which a very soft pencil, crayon or piece of charcoal was held in a twist or stump of paper. They were made in the famous Académie Julian in Paris around 1911-12, a time when it was still thought a good idea that artists should learn to draw.
67. Standing Male Nude (No 11) (back 3/4 length)
All drawings are 24.5 x 19 inches on Ingres or Michallet paper. They date from 1911 and 1912. The drawings are in studio condition, minor tears and scuffs ignored. Some have been stamped with the name Henri Royer or with the studio address 31 Rue du Dragon.
