BEN JOHNSON Pavilion Seville ‘His cityscapes offer a visual experience more complete and complex than one could enjoy in the presence of the real thing. Johnson sees for us, more acutely than we can manage to see for ourselves.’ Edward Lucie-Smith, 2004

Ben Johnson was born in 1946 in Llandudno, Wales. He studied at the Royal College of Art in London and has been exhibiting his work for over 30 years. His large and highly detailed cityscapes are painted from multiple viewpoints, using models to achieve the correct composition; although it is the ‘ideal’ version which he seeks to represent. He is the only painter to have been made an honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), having been elected in 1990. He has work in many public collections worldwide including the V&A, the British Museum, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
