Bon à Tirer etchings
David Hockney is widely thought of as one of Britain’s greatest living artists and throughout his long career has always considered printmaking to be an important part of his output. Here we are pleased to offer a selection of 8 original etchings by Hockney from his 1998 suite entitled Dog Wall, which was published by the artist himself. We see Hockney’s two Dachshunds, Stanley and Boodgie. The dogs are my little friends, he says in an interview with Richard Natale in 1998. It was probably my wanting a tender, loving subject. I make no apologies for the apparent subject matter. These two dear little creatures are my friends. They are intelligent, loving , comical, and often bored. They watch me work; I notice the warm shapes they make together, their sadness and their delights.

These etchings are all signed and dated in pencil by Hockney and are also inscribed with the letters B a T. This is short for Bon à Tirer, literally meaning
inscribed with the letters B aT by the artist. The edition of 35 plus ten artist's proofs was published by the artist and distributed by Pace Editions, New York. (Bon à Tirer meaning good to pull)
