Terry Frost

This piece relates closely to some of Frost's earliest responses to Lorca. He had been producing collages like this from about 1979, having first found Lorca in 1975. It incorporates the colours of the Spanish National flag with his own red and black: red for love and black for death, both for passion. The black triangle represents the bull of Spain, with the crescent horns and the red jab of the Picador's lance. Above and below the central motif are intriguing smudge marks in the artist's own hand, suggesting the four legs and horns of the bull, powering the image towards you. This would have been one of many preparatory studies Terry made for the Lorca portfolio, in particular the design for the solander box cover, and is one he would have been especially pleased with to have selected to accompany the special edition. Rigby Graham

In 1994 Rigby Graham made a series of monotypes for an exhibition at Goldmark Gallery. The Ritual, which sold from that show, is featured as a full page illustration in the catalogue which accompanied the exhibition. A Rigby Graham monotype had previously been shown in the 1970 Leipzig Biennale when Graham represented Great Britain alongside Henry Moore. We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer this work again.

Malcolm Morley

Born in London in 1931, Malcolm Morley worked on transatlantic and North Sea barges before attending Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, 1952-3, and the Royal College of Art, 1954-7. He moved to New York in 1958, getting to know leading avant-garde Americans in the Cedar Bar. After an early period of abstraction, Morley returned to figuration in the mid-1960s, gaining a reputation for his Super-Realistic works. Later work was rich and exotic, drawing on his wide travels. He had a major retrospective in 1983-4, organised for the Whitechapel Art Gallery, with an international tour. He won the Turner Prize, 1984. Showed with Anthony d'Offay, 1990, also with Pace Gallery, New York, in 2001 having a 40-year retrospective at Hayward Gallery. In 2005, Morley had an exhibition, The Art of Oil Painting, at Sperone Westwater, New York. The Saatchi Collection holds his work.
