10 rocky Landscape, ÂŁ2250
pencil & wash, signed, 29.5 x 37 cm
John Nash has long remained in the shadow of his brother Paul whose paintings are now selling for very substantial amounts of money. Talks are in progress regarding a major monograph on John Nash which we feel will go some way towards redressing the balance.
12 | PETEr KINLEy
A painter of near-abstract landscape and figure subjects, Kinley studied at düsseldorf Academy 1948-9 and at St Martin's School of Art 1949-53. he was represented in Six young Contemporaries, Gimpel Fils, 1951 and 1953. Influenced by the de Staël exhibition in London 1953 and 'New American Painting' Tate 1959 Kinley began to restrict his range of colours and pare down his subject matter. These pieces are typical of his work from the early 1960s; his most sought after period, where the single figure subject is refined to its simplest form. Kinley's work is held in many public collections including a number in the Tate Gallery's permanent collection.

14 | dErrICK GrEAVES
derrick Greaves (b1927) ďŹ rst came to the attention of the art world when he represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in the 1950s alongside other 'Kitchen Sink' painters. disillusioned with the social realism of the late 1950s Greaves had a departure from his somewhat austere representational style. he cleared his paintings of unnecessary clutter and embarked on creating images using bold line-drawn motifs set against subdued backgrounds of which this still life is a beautiful example. The informality of the collage in the background provides a contrast and tension with the precision of the drawn line. Following his exhibition at Fischer Fine Art in 1980 the term 'collage painting' was coined to describe these monumental 'drawings' on canvas.
