RIGBY GRAHAM
Irascible painter whose idiosyncratic landscapes are among the 20th century’s best. The Sunday Times 24 May 2015
In memory of Rigby Graham 1931-2015 It is with great sadness that we bring you the news that gallery artist Rigby Graham died peacefully at his home on 7th May. Just 2 months ago he attended the launch of his biography Against the Grain, arriving to a standing ovation at a packed gallery. We worked with Rigby Graham for some 30 years. His extraordinary contribution to British art and books is not yet properly understood. Our thoughts are with his wife Pat and daughter Elly.

Picasso lived and worked in
Vallauris for almost 10 years. It was during this time that he developed

techniques of ceramics and
linocuts, his first linocuts being used to make posters to advertise the
bull fights and ceramic exhibitions in the town. These two scarce linocuts

16 | MARC CHAGALL
The Twelve Tribes of Israel
(framed together in custom cut mount) after preliminary sketches for the Jerusalem stained-glass windows.
In 1959 Chagall was commissioned to design twelve stained glass windows for the new synagogue of the
Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Centre situated in the Judean hills west of Jerusalem. These magnificent
windows symbolise the twelve sons of Jacob from whom
sprang the twelve tribes of Israel.
Chagall took great pleasure in his designs for the
windows and was very keen that they should be more
widely disseminated. These lithographs were created by the world famous fine art printers Mourlot Frères of Paris. Closely involved with the production, Chagall
worked with the artisans every step of the way, insisting on perfection.
